Not good, to be quite honest with you. They're no longer using him on the D-line and he looks too bulky to me to be an effective OLB. If anyone needs a change of scenery, it's probably the 2022 third-round pick.

Hi Brian and thanks for your reporting.By this time next year Washington will be a OT regardless of how this years tackles do. Guys this size who move this well are at a premium .what say you?

You're welcome. I don't know about this time next year but I legitimately think he has a chance to try that out as a second act in his NFL career. That doesn't mean there won't be a learning curve, even a steep one, when it comes to the finer points of playing that position. But he's so massive and his knees/long-term mobility such a concern that it's absolutely worth a shot at some point.

Good morning Brian.  There was a lot of talk about Sebastian Castro having a good chance of making the team.  Lately, I haven’t heard much about him  What are you hearing?  Thanks.
Brian Batko

Really like Sebastian Castro and he flashed with a fantastic one-handed interception Sunday but I just don't think he has enough athleticism to cut it at this level. His best-case scenario might be finding a Miles Killebrew role somewhere as a backup safety and special teams ace. Perhaps it can still be here if he sticks around on the practice squad. I just don't see it working out for him on the 53 this year.

Good morning Bats. Will these mid-contact hold-ins never end?

No

Cam and Boz are both good players but both examples of what is a problem in today’s sports landscape. Excessive greed. Just because they had good seasons should not preclude honoring their current contracts. Cam just signed a huge contract last season. Why pull this stunt?? Greed plain and simple.

It wasn't really a "huge contract" though, RJ. It was one that was good enough for both sides for a 35-year-old D-lineman coming off an injury-plagued down year in 2023. The Steelers gave him something of a vote of confidence at a time when some were calling for Heyward to actually take a pay cut, but they left themselves an out. I understand where he's coming from.

Brian with the pre season starting tomorrow who will you be watching i would a eye on all the draft picks and the undrafted free agents and Roman Wilson Go Steelers

Yeah that about covers it, plus Broderick Jones and Troy Fautanu.

Cam and now I'm hearing Boz.  My lament here is not that he and Boz are seeking to get a little something, but that they were trying to do it respectfully and quietly for the good of the team, and now both sides have been Sheftied.  Can we just get a break from drama for one season??

I thought we were getting that when the TJ Watt deal got done early, but now not so much

Why should the Steelers give Cam anything? He didn't have to sign the extension last year, if he didn't he could have been a free agent and named his price. Tough luck Cam, but no sympathy from me. Plus, cap rolls over and any dollar spent on Cam is a dollar they can't spend on someone else.

Well if he wouldn't have signed the extension, people  would've been crushing him for that at the time, too. So I don't really get down with that logic or that argument. But I hear you on that last part. It's not about fans being tight with Art Rooney II's money. In a salary cap league, it's about wanting to get good value to make the team as efficiently built as it can possibly be. I don't really begrudge anyone that, but you also can't expect every guy to be cool with hometown discounts for the good of the team.

Brian - any thought given to word limit the questions?
Brian Batko
11:02
I'll think about it.

But one thing we do have is a time limit and I'm clocking out at the one-hour mark, per usual. Gotta get on with my day. Thanks for joining for a rare, possibly unprecedented (for me), Friday chat. Enjoy the game tomorrow night as much as one possibly can for preseason action.
