No, he's not dead to anyone. He'll always be beloved, even if he did make some brutally honest remarks about the team in the offseason.

Why is the practice team always referred to as a “squad”?
Brian Batko
2:29
I don't know, but that might keep me up tonight.
Eric Carr
2:30
Brian, are you at all concerned about the potential for not many more Int's than last year? I think we only got 2 in the preseason final after none in the 1st 3 games if I'm not mistaken
Brian Batko
2:31
Yes, I think it's still a concern. But it always is. We'll see if Steven Nelson infuses some splash plays, if Terrell Edmunds is around the ball more in Year 2, and if Kam Kelly has some ball skills that make him a significant addition to the equation.

The Steelers beat the Patriots 17-10 last year. Is there any chance Big Ben doesn't have to be carried on the defense's to get a win back Sunday night?
Brian Batko
2:31
Yes

Looking back at the roster situation, I found it puzzling that the Steelers weren't able to get another back-up tight end (like Luke Wilson) to back-up McDonald.  At this point, are we stuck with Grimble as the TE#2?
Brian Batko
2:33
Yeah, I think it's Grimble more than Gentry. But perhaps the Steelers won't use two-tight end sets much in Foxborough. I probably wouldn't bother much if I were them.

2:33
Hey Brian! Thanks for the chats. Who are the primary backup OLB's this week with injuries to Chickillo and Ola? Any chance Skipper sees some action?
Brian Batko
2:34
I live to serve, James. That's a good question. I imagine they'll mostly role with Bud and Watt, but hey, they put Tuzar Skipper on the 53 for a reason (though there's no guarantee he'll be active on gameday).

2:35
Thanks for the chat Brian!  So what is your take on the opener with New England.  I know our record there is pretty horrendous, but I'm feeling just a little optimistic. Am I wrong to feel that way?
Brian Batko
2:35
Probably, yeah
DaquidoBazzini
2:36
Do you think Tuzar Skipper dresses and plays ST's for the opener in NE?
Brian Batko
2:37
Ehhh it could be tough for him to get there. Obviously, Josh Dobbs is one of the inactives. Beyond that, it's probably Ola, one of of the tackles, one or two DBs, one of the DLs. It might be close for Skipper on that front.

What areas are the Pats weak in this year?   It looks like their O-Line is hurting.
Brian Batko
2:38
Yeah, they've taken some hits on the OL. There's probably not a team in the league that got worse at tight end than they did by Gronk retiring. We'll see how their receivers play with Josh Gordon and Demaryius Thomas just getting back into the mix, and a couple young guys after them.

As a lifelong Steelers fan am i rooting for a Raiders 0 & 4 start and an AB meltdown coupled with Le’Veon being a average player behind a below average line or is it time for me to just let go?

I believe "Batko" means "Big Daddy" in Polish. Has anyone ever called you "Daddy" or "Big Daddy" or "Pops" as a nickname? If not, a missed opportunity. (Also, did you have any other nicknames?)
Brian Batko
2:40
I don't have any children, so no. My other nicknames can't be shared in this forum.
Sterling A
2:40
OK Brian, prediction time.  It's Sunday night, Patriots' first possession.  1st and 10 from the 20.  Who are the 11 defenders on the field for the Steelers?
Brian Batko
2:42
A sterling Q from Sterling A and I hope to give a sterling A myself. 91, 97, 48, 55, 26, 90, 22, 28, 34, 21, 23

Was I alone in wondering why Devin Bush needed to play so much in the final pre-season game. It was agonizing. What could possibly go wrong? One thing not to "live in our fears" and another to use a little more caution as 3rd stringers are going wild to make their respective teams.
Brian Batko
2:43
No, I don't think you were alone, but I didn't hate it. I understand why from Mike Tomlin. Top-10 pick or not, he still has some work to do. Speaking of which ...
Ann Arbor Memories

Bush was torched in coverage, even when keying on receiver before the snap, at Michigan (see: Paris Campbell Ohio State 2018 game). I saw that continue in the preseason. He's a MLB in name only... Surely the Pats see it. Tell me the Tomlin/Butler brain trust knows that his current liability in coverage must be accounted for or should I get the 'definition of insanity' post(s) ready... Mike Tomlin today was asked if any of his big three additions defensively - that would be Bush, Barron and Steven Nelson - can help neutralize someone like Julian Edelman in the Pats passing game. Tomlin said no, those three guys will have other responsibilities, and that it will be up to the likes of slot corners Mike Hilton and Cam Sutton to minimize Edelman's impact.

What are the 2-3 keys for the steelers to win sunday at FOXBORO STADIUM IN MASSACHUSETTES?
Brian Batko
2:46
I would recommend scoring on offense and creating turnovers on defense.

Who returns kicks and punts now....is Switzer the only option now that Holton and Spencer are gone?  Does Samuels find his way back their on kick-offs?
Brian Batko
2:47
Pretty much. Maybe Diontae Johnson if he gets a hat. I don't think Samuels is viable in that role, no.
Cam Sutton has done some returning at times as well.

2:47
Hi Brian,  What were the results of the punting competition this year?  Is Tomlin bringing back the same punter for 2019?  Thanks for your chats.
Brian Batko
2:47
Yes, Jordan Berry is back in the fold.

Is Florida UDFA O-Lineman Johnson the next BJ Finney? What is his skill set like?
Brian Batko
2:48
Not sure I'd say that. Johnson is more tackle-capable and Finney more center-capable. Johnson is a lot bigger.
?
2:49
Does Fred Johnson have a personal history with Pouncey since they are both FLorida OLINEMEN?
Brian Batko
2:49
Not that I know of, but I'm sure there's a brotherhood dynamic at play there.

2:49
Hi Brian, if Sean Davis doesn't have a good year, and the Steelers let him test free agency, would Kam Kelly be in line for the starting free safety opening?  Or do the Steelers solely view Kam as a back-up?  Thanks!
Brian Batko
2:50
Well, from what we've seen this training camp and preseason and even going back to OTAs, they see him as more of just a backup. He might be on the field when it mattes in some sub-packages. For me, it's a really nice story, but let's see how he performs over the totality of a 16-game schedule in the National Football Lig.
