Tomlin Said Watt?
2:43
I know that the defense isn’t the same without Watt in the lineup, but how can you say the reason for the loss to the Brown’s is because of Chubb?  So, the 3 and outs, only scoring 3 points in the 2nd half and another game lacking a cohesive offensive game plan didn’t have an impact?  The defense barely got to sit down, before the coaches came to get them to go on the field again.

I do find it a bit odd that he's pinpointed the players so much in these last two losses. Obviously it's frustrating as a coach when execution lacks. He can't cover Nelson Agholor for Ahkello Witherspoon or field a punt for Gunner Olszewski. But I also think the Steelers have been outcoached the past two games, too.

Steelers record prediction at the bye week? How many more games do you think they would have to lose to switch to Pickett?
Brian Batko
2:49
Off the top of my head I'll just go with 3-5. But that's no different than I would've said before the season started. The Trubisky/Pickett situation is fluid and probably not based purely on wins/losses. Depends how Trubisky's playing.

Bats - 100% you should go with the "press" hat as your new thing.  You gonna do it?  That will be more fun than the whole rest of the Steelers season...

If you mail me a fedora to the Post-Gazette offices I'll see what I can do.

BB, admit it, you PG chat masters have colluded to keep the average yinzer guessing as to when you will actually bless us by opening your various and sundry chats? In this way, the PG chat master always feels superior, and maintains the chatting upper hand, no?

No way, Stash. We keep a pretty regular schedule 'round here. I'm usually at 2 p.m. on Mondays unless schedule changes dictate. But you can almost always get into the chat link early to submit questions before we begin. Maybe that's what has you confuzzled.

10 teams have scored less points than the Steelers.  It seems like the o-line leaks are plugged, but now the WRs hands are an issue. I believe Canada is still an issue, but when players don't make plays that are designed well, what is left?  Can Tomlin steer the ship, or are the winds too strong, and he will just go with the flow?

I'm not too worried about the receivers. Drops happen, just like bad reads and missed throws and poor play calls. They're too talented for that to be an issue all season, and I think they'll make more great catches than not. Already have. The No. 1 X-factor to me is still the QB play, as it is for just about every team.

How much of the offensive woes do you place on Trubisky vs the play calling? Is Trubisky too focused on the primary target or is the play calling just subpar. Thanks!
Brian Batko

If Trubisky were a consistently sharp quarterback with full-field vision and accuracy, he wouldn't have lost his job in Chicago and wouldn't have signed a two-year deal with just $5 million guaranteed this offseason. It's not like we thought they were getting Patrick Mahomes in free agency. That said, I'm not sure why Matt Canada hasn't used more play-action or designed runs for a guy whose mobility is a strength. There's a lot right now that is subpar.

At least there were a few shots downfield. Didn’t connect (except for Pickens’ entry for catch of the year). Better than the 3rd and 8 from the 12 pass to the 10 on same end of field.

Good point, Ed. That's progress. Baby steps. I saw a lot of those similar dump-offs by the Broncos last night. It's maddening to watch.

Brian,  When will MT finally realize the whole football world is correct in wanting KP to start?    The FO has to be frustrated.  This is not a very good team. Maybe Kenny will be the spark and bring some excitement back to the offense.  I think MT will hear the Kenny chants this week.  Thank you.

He may, but as I've said before, this is a first-round pick/face of the franchise QB we're talking about here. Not a "spark" for a 1-2 team. If they didn't think he was ready - or no more ready to win right now than Trubisky - when the preseason ended a month ago, I'm not sure what would change their minds to this point. The nice thing about this season from our perspective? It'll never be a lost year. Even if they're 3-10, if they haven't made a switch yet, any week could be the game No. 8 comes in to begin the next chapter.
