There's not that much available. If Calvin Austin goes on IR, they could poach from someon else's practice squad, which just happened to them with the Bucs signing Sebastian Castro to their 53. But the free-agent pool is pretty thin at this point. I assume they like Isaiah Hodgins and that's why he's on their PS.

Good afternoon Brian.  After watching the Oregon vs State Penn game, I was impressed by Dante Moore.  Have you heard if he is considering declaring for the draft and if the Steelers have expressed interest in him?  Thanks.

Dante Moore has been on my radar since early in the season. I actually talked to Derrick Harmon about him a few weeks ago for my Steelers-on-prospects draft series, which you can read here: https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/steelers/2025/09/13/dante-moore-de...

Moore is young, he meets the kind of size threshold the franchise has traditionally liked in their QBs and he's from Cleveland/Detroit originally, so you know he's built for AFC North conditions. Consider me highly intrigued.

are they just working on fundamentals this week. Jones, Fautanu and McCormick should stay lte every day working on them. Way too high in their stance and coming out of stance and need to work on zone blocking and how to read LB.

Hate to break it to you but the players were allowed to be off starting yesterday and many have gone on their bye week vacations already, though some certainly are still at the facility, especially those working to get back from injuries. I do not know if Broderick Jones, Troy Fautanu and Mason McCormick are burning the wick at both ends to be ready for Myles Garrett and Co. come Week 6.

Do you think Pat F’s getting beat on the FG block had anything to do with him not being mentally engaged in the game given the game plan that only had him in for 15 plays and not getting targets?

No, not at all. He's not having the start to the season that he or anyone would want, but he's got way too much football character to let that happen. And he's surely more happy that they're 3-1 than ticked off that his numbers are way down.

Hi Brian-Thanks for the chats. Was it me, or did the play clock run out on one of the Vikings 4th quarter TD's last Sunday?
Brian Batko
2:55
Oh boy, I'm not sure about that but the play clock thing was a major issue for Kevin O'Connell. He mentioned it multiple times in his postgame presser that they had issues finding the play clock, which was not working in the end zones as they normally do at an NFL stadium.

Do you think Cory Trice will dress after the bye? He is so long and fast , and I believe he will be a starter if he can finally stay healthy.

I'm not sure, Frank. He's working hard but we know how long and fraught his history is with lower-body injuries, so it's tough for me to predict his return. More likely that Joey Porter Jr. is ready to go if/when Jalen Ramsey is out.

The DL was awful against the run and pass the first two games. The last two games it seemed like they had an extra lineman. How much of a different does Harmon seem to make?

More of a difference than I anticipated, clearly. But Cam Heyward and Keeanu Benton also have stepped up their level of play in recent weeks, too.

Did you make it to Kilmainham Gaol? Great history. Have done the tour on a couple of occasions.

No, and I'm quite disappointed that I didn't make it there or the Guinness Storehouse. Both were completely booked up every time I looked for tickets. I'm not much of a planner to begin with, plus there was much P-G work to be done over there, so alas. But overall it was a fantastic trip. Probably saw  the inside of 20 pubs across Dublin, squeezed in some more touristy things on the last day (Book of Kells, St. Patrick's Cathedral) and overall very much enjoyed my time there.
OK folks, I've got to wrap up the chat now and keep it moving. Thanks for stopping by and we'll do it again next week, back on the usual Monday schedule. Enjoy a week of not sweating out the Steelers game!
