There's hope. Hope in the first-round pick at QB, hope in the playmakers on offense, hope in the sheer randomness and parity of the NFL.

Prior to the season  Chase Claypool boldly stated to a member of the media that he was one of the three best wide receiver's in the NFL  . Do you think he has lived up to this,  this season ?  Sunday he had zero catches for zero yards,  hmmmmm

He’s been a disappointment no doubt. I’m sure he wants more opportunities to make plays but what wide receivers doesn’t. When they come his way he needs to make them. Hasn’t done it the last two weeks in big moments.

Hi Brian, The Steelers interior defense has not been fixed. It looks like Alualu and Heyward are showing their age and it showed yesterday. I know the return of TJ will help but don't you think the Steelers need to get a true NT?
Brian Batko

Their D-line depth is still solid. But I'm not gonna lie, it would probably help to have, say, Jordan Davis in the middle. Or even Travis Jones. The draft didn't fall that way, though. In the meantime it might be time to give Isaiahh Loudermilk a look.

We're all well-aware of the player turnover on the offensive side of the ball, but could some of the misfires be attributed to three new offensive position coaches?
Brian Batko
12:47
Could be. Frisman Jackson is a new WR coach and I'd say that position isn't as playing up to their talent. The O-line is trying to figure things out with a new coach, too. But coaches change all the time in this league. It's not an excuse.

Hi, has any of the coaches discussed why they don't rush more than 4 anymore?  It seems like they rarely send more than that.  I think some extra blitzing on that last drive, particularly on 4th and 7, could've forced some bad throws.  Thanks.

I agree with you. Zach Wilson's career numbers vs. pressure aren't very good and it seemed like the Steelers should've tried some more in that regard. Maybe they felt they couldn't because of how banged-up they were in the secondary.

Sup Bats.  Feel like Claypool is more athlete than he is NFL wr.  Size, speed and ability but even in year3, after NFL coaching up, he still jumps to make a stomach cradle type catch- which negates his size advantage and often times results in an incompletion. Can he not figure out the concept of “high point”?!
Brian Batko
12:51
You're right. It makes no sense that he isn't making more plays. He's a monster. He's fast. He's fiery. But something's just missing there. No way around it, it's a shame he hasn't progressed more after the way he played as a rookie.

Hi Brian Do you think MT gets a position in the office to make Flores the new head coach?
Brian Batko
12:52
Nah

Brian, first I want to say that I thoroughly enjoy your chats and the rest of the PG team's as well.  Great writers, great to read each day.  Question:  How does Coach Tomlin, often called a "player's coach", "protect" a rookie QB for weeks/months and then, without any reps, over a 10-day "prep" period no less, throw him in down at the half?  It appears more and more this regime is not ready for a rebuild (hasn't improved the OL and running game in 4+ years, nor have they recovered from Shazier's awful injury) and a the team needs to start over, new staff, top to bottom.  Though I would  transition the staff to Flores if possible.

I can confirm these are two different Petes. So, thank you, second Pete. And I agree with you, the way he's handled this QB situation, first of its kind for him, has left a lot to be desired. Not just necessary about when/why he made the switch, but from listening to both guys going back to July, they really have had no idea what the plan is for them. Maybe that'll work out in the end and make Tomlin look smart. For now it just comes off as an arrogant way to approach it.

Barring injury, do you see a scenario where the Steelers go back to Mitch?
Brian Batko
12:58
Wouldn't shock me. The idea of going back to him at this point would be strange and potentially stunting for Pickett's development, but I think that's less of a worry with him than it is your typical first-round QB. He's already gone through a ton of ups and downs in his career. I don't think he has a fragile psyche or anything like that.

Would we have won more games with Big Ben at the helm this year....?
Brian Batko

I don't think so.

OK folks, that's all the time we have for today. Gotta go talk to the players soon. Will have a story online later about ... something.
