What do the Steelers have to trade? Ahkello Witherspoon is wearing street clothes on the sideline and he cost them a fifth-round pick in 2023. Less of that, please!
Kalen Ballage
2:38
BB--should I seriously consider leaving my helmet at home on game days for the balance of the season?
Brian Batko
2:38
Hey Kalen, you kinda reminded me of Le'Veon Bell on that one run! Key word one.
Paul from Sacramento
2:38
How is it that we let Jamir Jones go?  Was that just a slip up?
Brian Batko
2:39
Maybe. But clearly they liked what Derrek Tuszka was doing better than Jones. Good for Jones though blocking a punt on Thursday Night Football for the Rams. Well, kind of. Because then the Seahawks punter picked up the ball mid-stride and kicked it again. That was electric.

How can the o line make such a dramatic improvement in one week ?  Do you think there is an issue with them, the coaches, the coordinator, Ben …….?
Brian Batko
2:41
Ben said after the game that Matt Canada really challenged them this week in offensive meetings, really got on them to raise their level of play. So, if there's any value left in rah-rah motivational coaching at the NFL level, maybe that did it?

Do we celebrate the coaching staff for the run emphasis against the Broncos or lambaste them for taking so long to get there? Could it be that it just took time for the O line to be able to support the run game well enough to stick to it?
Brian Batko
2:41
We've lambasted them enough on these Monday chats, haven't we? Tip of the cap for a solid plan and solid execution by the players.

Bats, fools gold with yesterdays win by the Stillers or something to build on over the next few weeks ?
Brian Batko
2:44
Ah, I still think they can get to 9-8, my preseason prediction for them. But I'm not expecting anything more than that. And would not be surprised if the Broncs are one of the three worst teams they face all year. Tough schedule hasn't changed.

The o'line looked much improved. Was this an anomaly or for real? Thanks Bats
Brian Batko
2:45
Think it CAN be for real. Any line is gonna gain some confidence when it's pushing people around in the run game, and I imagine this unproven group was badly in need of some confidence. It's one thing to tell us reporters that they aren't panicking. But it's a whole other thing to actually go out there and prove to themselves they can get it going.

Is the Steelers O-Line suddenly good?  Or is Denver's front really not that good?
Brian Batko
2:47
Probably somewhere in the middle. They were allowing the least production of any team to opposing running backs, but again, they faced the Giants, Jets and Jaguars, followed by the Ravens, who as we know get a heck of a lot of their rushing from the QB.

To those wondering where TJ was yesterday, see the play late in the 1st quarter when he torpedoed into the backfield and stuffed the RB for a 5 yard loss. Plus he had numerous pressures to disrupt the QB.
Brian Batko
2:48
Can confirm. But TJ himself knows that with more money comes higher expectations. Happy birthday to him, by the way.

No question just keep running the frigging football. That is what has always made us good. Controle the clock, dont turn it over. I loved seeing us get back to Steelers football..

Hi Brian, are you familiar with any of the street free agent wide receivers? If so, who would be a fit for the Steeler's practice squad? Who could they kick the tires on?
Brian Batko
2:52
Larry Fitz is certainly the biggest name out there, but Deon Cain has been out of work since spending preseason with the Ravens. They're familiar with him. He's not a slot guy though, and that's probably what they need. Ray-Ray McCloud as a receiver doesn't do much for me. Cody White might get an audition as a bigger slot like JuJu at 6-3. Can I interest anyone in a lightly used Donte Moncrief??

2:53
Will there be a rush on the Henry Mondeaux jerseys?
Brian Batko
2:53
I've already passed four people wearing them in the street.
Paul
2:53
What do you make of Tuszka? Seems like a solid tackler
Brian Batko
2:54
Sure, he's fine.
Tony
2:54
Who would be the next man up now the juju is going to be out for an extended period?
Brian Batko
2:55
They plugged Ray-Ray into the slot for the rest of that game, and he's been the next man up with all of the receiver injuries so far this year.

Brian,  From my vantage point, (watching the game at the local tavern), it looked as though the game ending interception was a poorly thrown pass behind the receiver and intro Pierre's arms.  Had that throw been on target this would have been loss number four, yes?
Brian Batko
2:56
Not necessarily. Broncos would've needed a 2-point conversion, then overtime. But hey, them's the breaks. Lord knows Steelers opponents have benefited greatly from some poorly thrown passes this season.

2:57
When is Banner eligible to be activated?
Brian Batko
2:57
Now, and if he's not activated by early next week, he can't come back this season.

Where do you have the Steelers  in the NFL power rankings? Everyone else in the North ahead of them?
Brian Batko
2:58
Oh I don't know, I'd have to sit down and look at everything to do a league-wide ranking. But yes, I can't put them above fourth in the North based on yesterday.

2:59
Do you think the improved running game was because:  the line is getting better, the play calling was better, or the Broncos #1 defense wasn't challenged in its first four games?
Brian Batko
2:59
All three!
3:00
Allllllrighty folks, we're out of time. Pretty good crowd for a victory. Normally I only expect this many questions/readers after a loss. Talk to you all next Monday!
