All right everyone, time for another chat. Steelers don't play again until Monday night. Hope everyone's making it through the long hiatus OK.

With a couple of million dollars in your pocket, is it really that hard to stay out of trouble?
Brian Batko
2:01
I wouldn't know.

Is Ben Rothlesberger re-signing a guarantee?
Brian Batko
2:02
Ben is under contract for two more years after this one. I would say that him being back for another deal after that one is far from a guarantee.

I think the national media has been a bit tough on Mason Rudolph - essentially writing him off as a potential quality starting QB.  The guy was not a first round draft pick, is starting his first few games, is replacing a Hall of Fame quarterback, and is without all world receiver AB.   I think they ought to give the guy a little time, at least a season or so before making final judgments. Your thoughts?
Brian Batko
2:04
Yeah, but a lot of people prefer to make snap judgments and rush to make up their mind these days. How about everyone crushing him after the 49ers game, when we now know that they might just be the best defense in the league outside of New England? My thoughts are the jury is still out on Rudolph. But they likely have 10 more games to deliberate.

Do you think offense will continue to open up for mason to take more downfield shots? If so, is that a good thing or dangerous thing in your opinion? Thanks!
Brian Batko
2:05
I think it will. And to me, that's a good thing, not just for him but also for someone like JuJu Smith-Schuster, who's been pretty quiet.

Do you think smoking weed before a game would help the players? How about the refs?
Brian Batko
2:05
Probably not, no

What is it going to take to get Finney on the field over the inept Foster?  Is the organization so focused on saving face for signing Foster to a bad deal that there is nothing that could happen outside of injury to enable this change?
Brian Batko
2:06
I think it would take some pretty poor performance, much worse than he's been, for Ramon Foster to get benched. But if any interior lineman goes down, you'll probably see Finney in there.

Hodges being under center last week really helped the Steelers run game. Offensive lineman can line up in 3 point and fire off the ball. With mason back I’m afraid this will go away because he is not comfortable with it.
Brian Batko
2:07
No one has ever said he's not comfortable with it. In fact, Rudolph has gone out of his way to say he's happy doing anything. Lining up under center, play action, QB sneaking. It's probably more a matter of what the Steelers think he's best at doing.

Do all NFL coaches give their players vacation during the bye week? Seems like too much opportunity to make a poor choice. Reminds me of when Joey Porter was shot outside that Denver sports bar in 2003 (Sunday at 2 am).
Brian Batko
2:08
I believe so. Really, it shouldn't be a concern. The Steelers almost got out of it unscathed. But not quite. Lots of guys went away though and stayed out of trouble. IT only takes one.

do you feel we need to drafter smarter players as opposed to superior athletes like the Patriots. We seem to always have communication problems and be out of place. I know you still need athletes but they seem to put a lot of emphasis on spart testing
Brian Batko
2:09
Not really, no.

isn't MNF the type of trap game Tomlin is known for playing down to? Bad team on road-
Brian Batko
2:10
Stay tuned for a story on this later in the week. We've still got a long time until gameday.

Aren’t we all being a little too dramatic to say the Steelers running game got back on track? Connor did great  work as a receiver but still averaged less than 4 yards/carry?”.
Brian Batko
2:10
Are we just going to ignore Benny Snell?
John Strange
2:11
Hopefully the Steelers can defeat the Dolphins at home and the Bengals on the road. Any other wins on their schedule?
Brian Batko
2:12
Colts at home, possibly. Bills at home still looks good. Jets on the road. Browns are looking mighty unimpressive. And Arizona, well, they're still rebuilding. There could be several wins still left on the schedule.

Ravens Won . Season over? Need to go 8-2 as a fact from now on, either for wildcard or Division .. Am I right Brian ?
Brian Batko
2:13
I'm going to play the odds and say that no, you are wrong. Especially on the season being over part. I definitely have to work the rest of this week.
Delusions
2:14
I can't believe there are fans and local media members thinking Steelers can finish 10-6 or 9-7 and make the playoffs. What games and team are these people watching? I wish I could be that detached from reality.
Brian Batko
2:14
More of a rhetorical question, but OK.
Fielding Fowler
2:14
If the defense continues to get take away, and the offense only improves, all games on the schedule are potential wins, n'est pas?
Brian Batko
2:14
You and Delusions should have a sidebar.

After watching the Ravens game it is clear that they are the superior team in the AFC North.  They committed to the run.  The Steelers have not and are paying the price with or without Big Ben.  What would it take to get them to refocus on the run?
Brian Batko
2:15
I agree with you Rich, the Ravens are the best team in this division and will win it. The Steelers will still try to run the ball. Miami should offer a chance to go over 100 yards on the ground for a second consecutive game.

Good Morning Brian, Saw the news this morning re: Anthony Chickillo. I would imagine this will lead to more snaps for Ola. Will the Steelers need to find another Edge rusher on the mkt ?
Brian Batko
2:16
Not sure. Jayrone Elliott was their next OLB up and they cut him to make room for Paxton Lynch on the active roster last week. They could always bring him back. The only LB on the practice squad is Robert Spillane and he's more of an inside guy. We'll see what happens with Chickillo, but this should be a big opportunity for Ola.

Just curious if it was reported what was up with all the bad snaps last week?  Every time I would look forward to seeing Duck do something the snap would be bad.
Brian Batko
2:18
Shaun Sarrett the OL coach said Maurkice Pouncey might've just lost his grip on the ball more often than he normally does, but that they'll get it cleaned up.

I have no faith in this coaching staff and am amazed by the player mistakes during games. However, I find myself rooting for this team more than in years past. Why is that?

Do the Steelers cut Chickillo over this incident?
