Part of this is an improving OL allowing Ben more time. Part of it is him allowing those plays to develop. And part of it is those guys getting the separation they need. Also helps when you're running the ball better and keeping defenses honest in the middle of the field. Yes, I think it will continue.

Brian, no Titans in HS playoffs (shocking)…thoughts on Rams and how/if it will impact their future. Is this the new NFL way? I personally hate seeing the NFL turn into MLB where a few teams go all in and many teams start to tank for a better draft.

Shaler will bounce back strong. Some injuries to promising young players did not help the cause. Anyway, yeah, how about the Rams trading for Von Miller? Super interesting. I don't think it's the new NFL way, but I give them credit for eschewing the traditional method of team-building (draft and developing) and trying to construct their roster through aggressive trading. Don't see it much in this league, and it might be a market inefficiency for them. Now they have to go get it done on the field.

Hello Brian — Do you think we are done with Enron now ?

I would definitely say his stock is down.

Fake FGs or Punts are always going to be criticized when they don’t work, but be overwhelming celebrated when they do.  In those situations if you don’t like the look, either call a TO or take delay of game penalty.

Exactly. Tomlin should've done that, if indeed he sensed the play wouldn't work because of the pre-snap aspect, as he detailed postgame. In that sense, I agree that it was a bad coaching move. But once you get into all the strategy of "take the points there!!!" and things of that nature, well, I'm just not that conservative. If you are, fine. Reasonable minds can disagree on stuff like that.

Brian the Steelers have no back resource to kick FG or Extra points

Apparently not. But I wonder how many teams do? I'd have to really check around at the other rosters and look into situations where kickers got hurt in-game. Doesn't happen often.

Hello BB.  I am a Coach Tomlin fan.  My question is should he add fake field goal attempts to his "never say never, but never" list?

Maybe. But how soon we forget that before yesterday, Boswell was 1 for 1 for 2 yards and a touchdown in his career. Pretty good passer rating! As Joe Schobert said today, if it works, everyone's talking about how great of a call it was. When it doesn't, egg on the face. Which is why I'm trying not to value outcome over process here. They still won the game.

I thought yesterday's fake FG play was one of the worst plays I have ever seen as the direct snap to Boz didn't make sense. The Steelers made no attempt whatsoever to disguise the play. I thought the snap should have sent to the holder first to show some disguise. Now the Steelers probably have to cut a player from PS to sign a temporary PK. What was you thought on this stupid play?

I would've liked to see what Harvin could do with the ball in his hands, no doubt!

Is James Washington a bust?

It's slowly heading in that direction, yes.

Hello Bats. Im being serious here.. Is it that difficult to kick a fg from 1 yard line? It worked out but I was surprised they didnt try fg when they were down by goaline.

It's an interesting discussion. In theory, no, it's not. But you have to account for a lot of things. A snapper working with a new holder, a holder doing that job in a game for the first time, and then you get to the aspect of a punter trying to make a kick against a rush. All of that factored in, there's also the added angle of having a TON of pressure on you in a situation you aren't accustomed to. In a perfect world, yeah, "next man up" and you handle the pressure because you're a pro. But we know it doesn't always work out that way. Heck, Tomlin didn't even want to trot out a real kicker last year from 40-some yards when Matthew Wright was filling in for Boswell. And he mentioned the idea of not wanting to put the game on his shoulders.

OK friends, I think we've exhausted any and all fake FG angles. Also it's time for me to go. Thanks for chatting, we'll do it again next week for a special morning-of-the-game chat before MNF. Talk to ya then.
