He's certainly been their best on this little two-game run. Agree with you that that the way he plays, it just can't really be quantified. I don't think the Steelers or any other team will ever fully disregard measureables and athletic testing and whatnot, lest you end up with a bunch of guys who'd be good ditch diggers but can't cover a tight end, but that's always the needle you're trying to thread in scouting. It's an inexact science.

On the play that was ruled a forward pass.  Is the rule--its where the player is standing or where the ball hits the players hands? He did have to reach back

As far as I know, it's just a judgment call on the flight of the ball. And from every angle showed, in addition to where it ended up contacting Warren, that certainly looked like a gift to the Steelers.

Will the Steelers consider bringing back Marcus Allen or Nick Kwiakowski to provide depth at ILB after the injuries to Holcomb and Alexander  ?

If both are healthy, I assume the Steelers would've added one over Mykal Walker/Tariq Carpenter, if they preferred their skill sets. They even had another off-ball linebacker on the practice squad for a brief time, Caleb Johnson.

what’s more concerning, Kenny’s pocket presence or inability to find his second option…or Johnson dropping big passes that thwart Kenny’s momentum?

All of the above, but the pocket presence and progression aspects are probably tied together. It just seems like he's getting very antsy back there and not really showing that "it" factor so many teammates have spoken about. Doesn't mean stick a fork in him, just that it's a bit of a discouraging three-game stretch after how well he played in LA.

What did you think of the OPI on Austin? Just looked like two guys running into each other to me.

Didn't think it was a bad call. I see what you're saying, but in that instance, it was contact that did free up Pickens over the middle, which puts the ref in a spot to really have to consider flagging that. What I hate more than anything are "gotcha" calls like the offensive offsides on the field goal vs. Jacksonville. Don't officiate a game to try to catch players doing something illegal, especially when it has little to no impact on the play. Officiate to maintain fairness and competitive balance.

should we concede the debate about who is the best running back and give MT credit for changing his ways and not running the wheels off of either running back?   we have a good running back by committee going.  your thoughts?

Wow, a compliment for Mike Tomlin in a Steelers chat? I will write down Nov. 13, 1 p.m. on my calendar as a day not soon to be forgotten. And really I think we should just end here before we go any further into the twilight zone. Thanks as always for stopping by, and if I didn't get to you, please feel free to email your question or anything else to bbatko@post-gazette.com so I can potentially use it in my mailbag this week. Happy trails
