Brian Batko's Steelers chat: 11.16.20

Yes, the offense had a negative play and the quarterback was dismayed. Pretty standard stuff.

Hey Brian, how do we feel about Avery Williamson at the moment? I know he hasn’t got many snaps but what can you make of the time that he has had on the field?
Brian Batko
2:28
That's a good question, Tim. I'm not really sure what to make of it, other than that I expected him to be involved more this week - as in, before mop-up duty time. Maybe I shouldn't have thought that after just one week of practice in-person for him, but you have to start giving him game reps eventually, right? Unless of course Tomlin and Keith Butler weren't lying when they said he was acquired for depth.

Great chat as always Brian, how in the world does someone like Baker Mayfield have 3 (!!!) national ad campaigns when Ben can't get a local beef jerky spot?
Brian Batko
2:29
I don't know but one of my sister-in-laws was telling me Baker gets a lot of mean tweets for that skinny legs Hulu commercial. He probably just laughs and cashes another check. That's what I would do.

Ben is a lighting blot running compared to Phillip Rivers!  Brain, great chats!  Who do you think is Steelers best receiver now?  I still say, JuJu, you?
Brian Batko
2:29
Lightning Blot sounds like the worst superhero ever
2:30
Oh, and I agree with you, Guest.

Morning Bats....here it comes, the anticipated running question. Is a feature back our Number 1 Draft need as we stand right now?
Brian Batko
2:31
You're the first Guest or guest to ask it in such terms, Guest. For that I applaud you. And you know what? I think it might be. There's still a lot that must and will play out with regard to free agency, the salary cap, etc. But I still do not expect Conner to be back and at that point, the potential replacements will be very unproven.
Petrice
2:32
Hi Brian, I see you and the rest of the local media are sniffing Ben's jock over yesterday's game, but come on, it's the bengals clearly this team will have trouble going forward
Brian Batko
2:32
Sniffing his jock? Come on, Petrice, this is a family chat.
2:33
Do I have to delete that comment? I don't even know.

Yes, but your name is Brain-:)  Great Superhero name!

Lightening Blot and his faithful sidekick Thunder Clod.

2:33
OK we've gotten a bit side-tracked here.

The Chiefs have 3 or 4 quality opponents remaining on the schedule, as do the Steelers. Do you think the Steelers need to get the bye to have a chance against the Chiefs in a possible AFC 'ship showdown?
Brian Batko
2:34
Yes. If they don't get the bye, there's no chance. They shouldn't even show up to Arrowhead. I'm kidding, C.H.!
MainMan
2:35
So the running game is what it is and we shouldn’t worry about it?
Brian Batko
2:35
You can worry about it if you want to. You can worry about whatever you want. Doesn't mean I have to.
Bobkat Brisko
2:36
hey Brian! How do you suggest the team fixes this running game? I feel like it’s the missing piece of the puzzle to complete what I would call a perfect balance on an already great football team. I just worry that if they rely too heavily on Ben to throw 40-50 passes a game, it could ultimately come back to haunt them, regardless of the looks the defense gives them. Thanks!
Brian Batko
2:36
Hey there, Bobkat. They should sign Marshawn Lynch. Now that's a guy I'd love to have a Zoom call with.
GM
2:36
Ok, is it just me or does 9-0 not seem like 9-0? If we were the Chiefs or Patriots with Brady that's all anyone would be talking about! Where's the respect for the record?
Brian Batko
2:37
A very philosophical question, GM. I suppose 9-0 is in the eye of the beholder. You think, therefore you are. Anyway, I do think plenty of folks are talking about the Steelers being the only unbeaten team in the league. Although I really don't watch any of the talking head TV shows ever, so hey, maybe I'm mistaken.

Hi Brian - What are the steps/hurdles for a player that tests positive for Covid to clear before returning to team/facilit?  Isn't health guidance still 14 day quarantine?
Brian Batko
2:40
Depends on whether they're having symptoms or not. At that point they have to wait 10 days from when the symptoms first started, then 72 hours from when they were last having symptoms. If asymptomatic, they need two consecutive negative tests 24 hours apart at least five days after testing positive.

What is the status of Dotson?
Brian Batko
2:42
TBD. He's on the COVID list. Given NFL's reporting protocols, the team doesn't have to say whether he tested positive or if he was just deemed to be a high-risk close contact. However, we know he was on the injury report Friday with illness. Expect Mike Tomlin to be asked about that tomorrow.

Brian. I’ve had a feeling all season like no matter what, the Steelers
Brian Batko
2:42
Same here.

Can you believe TJ Watt has 0 forced fumbles this year?  That doesn't seem right but that's what the stats say.
Brian Batko
2:43
Don't get me wrong, forcing fumbles is a skill, but it's also sort of a fluky thing. That is surprising for Watt. Maybe they'll come in droves eventually. Or Cam Sutton stole his powers.

Why won't you answer the hard questions, Brian? Should Jarvis Jones have been moved to free safety?
Brian Batko
2:44
Obviously.
Cam for Defense Sectary
2:44
Do you think there will by any asterisk this season with all the players that decided not to play?
Brian Batko
2:45
Nah, why would there be? Isn't everyone still fielding a team and didn't the vast majority of players opt in? And which Cam are you nominating for that position?
Benson DuBois
2:46
Rest Ben vs Jax?
Brian Batko
2:46
Not after that outing. If he looked wobbly or off, I'd entertain the notion, Benson.
Gene
2:46
Will Vance McDonald be available this week or is he still in quarantine?
Brian Batko
2:47
TBD. Still quarantining as far as I know, and still on the COVID list as of now. Ravens' Marlon Humphrey missed one game when he tested positive and got the results back on a Monday. So as long as all is well with Vance, and I very much hope that it is - we should remember these guys are humans first - look for him to return this week.
