There's so much parity in this league anymore, you can turn around from one year to the next depending on the moves you make. As for your second question, all things equal, I guess I'd take a tackle.

Great column by Starkey regarding Tomlin on the hot seat. Wouldn’t you think that maybe one win at most the rest of the way means the end of the Tomlin era?

6-10-1 would be bad, for sure, but I don't think it would get him fired one year removed from winning the AFC North.

The Patriots have rebounded well since TB left. Are they a blueprint for what the Steelers need to do to become competitive again? TY.
Brian Batko

In a sense, but blueprints are on paper. They have the best builder of all time in Bill Belichick. Can't replicate that here.

Good Afternoon,  If you were a betting man, what are the odds that Canada is back next year calling plays?
Brian Batko

How about 64%?
Seriously tho....

Should we just never defer after winning the coin toss and let Ben run the no huddle the entire game?
Brian Batko

Always defer. Just play some defense.

Hi Brian,  How about this -  Okorafor to LT, Banner to RT, BJ Finney to center, one of the Davis brothers to NT (Mondeaux back to the practice squad) and Spillane, Marcus Allen, or practically anybody to replace Bush if and until he actually plays with effort.

Some fine ideas there, Kevin, except the Steelers have shown little to no interest in using BJ Finney at center since he's been back here. Carlos Davis could return as soon as this week, and he's not to be confused with Casey Hampton, but fresh legs might be able to provide some resistance. I don't see much in the other ILBs on the team, though. Spillane should've been playing already, and now he's banged up.

We know Bush has been Bad , but nobody is saying how bad Terrell Edmunds playing everyone in that middle seems to be soft.

Steeldog just said it.

Brian I know decline happens to all great franchises. However, my biggest concern is the lack of development with depth players. Take Buddy Johnson as an example. With our inside LBs struggling one would think he could step in and be of some value by this point in the season. Last week we played with practice squad guys. This week it LOOKED like we played with practice squad guys. I agree with Zeise article that a rebuild is necessary, but what good is a rebuild if we can’t develop our draft capital? Is this coaching, scouting, philosophy….what gives?

Let's not jump all over one fourth-round pick who's being brought along slowly to play a difficult position in a system that isn't always kind to rookies. Isaiahh Loudermilk has been OK sooner than expected. Same with Tre Norwood, by and large. But yes, every team is going to get passed by if they aren't drafting AND developing well. The Bengals, for instance, finally seem to have both arms working in concert.
As for the reason, that's hard to say, other than they should take a long look at all aspects of the orgazniation if this thing keeps going downhill.

How much money do you think it would take to get Vince and Decastro to come out of retirement?

Don't stop there. Eric Ebron is on IR and Kendrick Green is struggling. Let's call up Vance McDonald and Maurkice Pouncey. Hey, Ramon Foster would look good back at his LG spot, wouldn't he? And when you think about it, Hines Ward is only 45, one year older than Tom Brady....
OK folks, we ended with some levity. Depending on your sense of humor, I suppose. Good to chat with you all about the most thunderous pounding I've covered so far as a Steelers beat writer. Let's, uh, hopefully not do it again next week.
