That's not a bad idea, though you need to look for more than just that in a head coach. Lots of great offensive coordinators have flamed out when they get in the big chair. But sure, if there's a good offense-first candidate out there when it comes time to find their fourth head coach since 1969, that could be the way to go.

Who has more job security, Austin or Canada?

I'd be stunned if it's not the guy whose unit is 18th versus the one whose group is 28th.

I know steeler nation will hates this but I just don't see the "it" in Kenny Pickett. He doesn't move to make plays with his arm like Mahomes, Herbert, and Joe B but to runs to gain yards but isn't Lamar or Hurts running either. He also doesn't possess the arm strength or accuracy of other elite qbs....my question is what are his PROFESSIONAL strengths? I can't find any, seems to be middle of the pack with everything....

It's not consistent enough yet, but given how little he'd worked with the starters before getting the call, I still think his accuracy can be a strength. And I'd say decision-making is, for sure. Just look at this run of interception-less football. To me, I thought he looked as calm and poised yesterday as any game so far. That's going to come with reps and work ethic, which is something he has in spades. I'm not saying you're wrong, but those are what I see as reasons why he can be better than middle-of-the-pack.

A TV NFL guy (forget who), calling a NFL game a couple weeks ago, made the statement that 2021 2nd rd. pick, Creed Humphrey is considered, by himself and across the NFL spectrum, to be the "best center in the league," going on to say that is in part because he [Humphrey] is top shelf in both run blocking & pass protection. At the time that was said, Humphrey was apprx. 1/2 way through his second season with the Chiefs. So my questions to you is... Do you agree with that assessment and even though Freiermuth is coming into his own, isn't a guy that touches the ball every snap a bigger asset than a TE, in other words, a drafting mistake on Colbert's way out the door, especially given the team's O-Line woes at the time and even with the slight improvements now?

Revisionist history is easy, and even now it could change by the week. But if you put me in a time machine and had me re-do the 2021 draft, I'd probably take Creed Humphrey with the Harris pick and stick with Pat Freiermuth in the second round. I think Freiermuth is pretty damn good.

Offense has been more efficient of late but continue to have trouble finishing drives with TDs. Is it the untimely penalties or general play calling/execution? Something else?
Brian Batko

Both of those, plus a rookie QB who just hasn't seen the volume of defenses, coverages and red-zone situations as guys who have been doing this a while. I'm not overly concerned with that aspect of Pickett's play. Think it'll naturally come around in time.

Are the Steelers actually improving or have they simply looked better against teams worse than them? Mariota, Ryan, and Dalton have no business starting NFL games at this point.

I think they're improving. Pickett is (although caliber of opponent is a factor there, too). TJ Watt hasn't been very productive, but he certainly makes the defense better. The O-line is getting better the more they play together. And we're seeing something of a rejuvenated Najee Harris. If they play the Bills or Eagles again, I think it's not quite as lopsided.

How many Steeler fans out there are starting to worry a little that the Raiders game could end up actually meaning something and  presenting some tough choices for traditional family Christmas Eve activities?

What about us sports writers? Let's just say I've made some plans that did not account for a possible playoff run. I'm not nervous just yet, but hey, you saw how the chat started today.
OK folks, that's all the time we have for this one. Be back next Monday. Have a good week.
