My starting OLine provided all of these folks are healthy would be Chuks and Dan at T position, JC at center, Dotson and Haeg at Guard with Banner on the field as swing tackle for all short yardage run plays.  If Banner cannot move people better than D Watt why are we paying both of these guys what we are paying them?   Is D Watt the highest paid Specsil teamer in the NFL?

I wouldn't be shocked to see Hassenauer replace Kendrick Green these last couple games. Might be a blow to the rookie's confidence, but hey, the performance just isn't there. Trai Turner is not a guy I'd target to bring back next season. It's a shame what's happened with Zach Banner because I truly thought he could be this OL's best player in 2021.

Time for a top to bottom makeover.

Thank you, Tom.

The Steelers, more than once this year, have looked like they aren't even an NFL team. Do you think big changes are on the way? Is any one in the organization taking notice at all?
Brian Batko

Well, as I've said before in these chats, there's one big, HUGE change coming, and that's at quarterback. Think of it as a controlled experiment. I wasn't very good at science, but I think Ben Roethlisberger would be the independent variable in this case.

How much of the failure of Canada’s offense is due to the fact that Ben just can’t move? He looked inept trying to run a couple plays which required him to move some yesterday.  The difference in Rudolph’s ability to move was pretty apparent.

I do believe that's part of it. And obviously you can't say that if you're Tomlin or Canada or even Ben. That's not to make apologies for Canada. As I said earlier, part of the job is to build a plan around what you do have, for better or worse. But if he does return as OC, I think the part that will go unsaid is that he just couldn't really implement the schemes he wanted to with an immobile QB at the helm.

Bad offense, bad defense, bad play calling, poor game preparation and clock management. How do the Steelers justify paying the head coach 10 million a year?
Brian Batko
2:53
Well, their record overall is still very good and he did win a Super Bowl. That was many years ago. He also won the AFC North. That was just last year. I'm guessing all of that is a big part of it.
What a mess

Is it time to admit that the Tomlin experiment has been a complete failure for this franchise and to cut it's losses ?
Brian Batko
2:55
Only if you give back the Lombardi Trophy too.

97, 90, 39 are clearly defensive team leaders, but who in the offense are the leaders?  There’s little accountability going around on that side of the ball
Brian Batko

7 should be one. He's talked about his message to the team a lot this year, so I assume that's what's going on behind closed doors. But other than him, yeah, it's a youthful bunch. I think Banner would've been that guy this season on the OL.

Can you explain why Steelers players (outside Friermuth)run sideline to sideline? If the put their heads down and went uphill a lot of plays would be 3rd and 4 to 5 rather than 3rd and a prayer.

Can you explain why your name is Carrot?

Embarrassing to watch players beating their chests and flexing on field after a defensive play when down 30-3. There is very little discipline on this team. More "show" than go. It is a shame that scoring is so poor that we have to celebrate 1st downs as if they were TDs.

Yeah, and I think you can sense some of that frustration after games when guys like Cam Heyward and TJ Watt speak with the media. But as I referenced earlier, don't you think that's probably a general trend across the whole league? Outside of maybe New England, where the Patriots have been known to have somewhat of a "militant" organization.

I watched the game outside of Pittsburgh and after the Ben fumble CBS announced they were switching to the Las Vegas - game. We immediately got to watch David Carr kneel three times to run the clock out. What does that tell you.

That David Carr made a comeback yesterday?

hey brian,  to what extent does ownership get involved in bringing coaches in?  Or does MT get carte blanche to promote as he sees fit?
Brian Batko

I believe that's mostly Tomlin's domain. But today is quite the blemish on the Steelers' track record of coaching hires, with Adrian Klemm bolting for a college job - remember how Mike Tomlin sneered at that suggestion earlier this year - with two games left in the NFL season. So either they were content to just let him desert his young O-line with the playoffs still a possibility, or they actually think it's a negligible impact because he's been so bad at the job. Not sure what would be worse.
OK we'll end on that sunny note. Thanks to everyone for stopping by to remind me the sky is indeed falling. I'm glad you came here instead of the nearest bar. Cheers.
