Anthony Franco

Hey everyone, been a while since I've conducted one of these. Looking forward to chatting with you all again!
Let's get into it
Adge

Alejandro Kirk for Pablo Lopez? Yes? Of Course? or Absolutely?
Anthony Franco
3:06
Yeah, I think it's a decent framework. A lot depends on how the Jays feel about López's shoulder though
Aidan
3:06
What do you think is the Phillies biggest need?
Anthony Franco
3:07
Dombrowski said it's basically bullpen and the outfield outside of Bryce. I'd agree with that, although I think they should be open to upgrading over Bohm at third base as well
Jon
3:07
How many of the top 50 do you think sign before the lockout?
Anthony Franco
3:08
It'll be pretty slow I'd guess. Maybe three or four in addition to whoever accepts the qualifying offer? I doubt we see anyone in like the top 15 or 20 sign before December 1
Carlos Correa
3:08
Any chance I sign a big contract with the St. Louis Cardinals
Anthony Franco
3:09
Cards' executives made it sound like they're pretty happy with DeJong, Sosa and Edman there and would prioritize pitching
I don't think they'll foreclose themselves entirely on the shortstop market, but I can't see them signing Correa, no
Matt
3:09
Most likely Boston offensive upgrade: a SS like Story or an OF like Suzuki?
Anthony Franco
3:10
I had them as a dark horse play for Freddie Freeman on our Top 50 list, which Braves' fans understandably didn't love
If that doesn't happen and they focus primarily on pitching, then I'd guess a marginal second base upgrade on Arroyo is the biggest position player move they make
Chris Antonetti
3:11
Do you think I will get to spend some money this year.   I’m thinking Castellanos is out of range…but maybe Conforto, Marte, Soler, Pederson or maybe even bring back Rosario?
Anthony Franco
3:11
(Antoinette is Cleveland's president)
Antonetti even
Yeah, I think they could be in the mid-tier outfield market, although we have Starling Marte above the rest of the guys you mentioned
3:12
I think each of myself, Tim and Steve independently pegged them as our pick on Mark Canha

with Oakland shedding payroll and Astros losing some star players, is the AL West up for grabs?
Anthony Franco
3:13
Obviously a lot can change in six months. As of now, Astros are still the favorite there in my opinion but it might be more winnable than in years past for Seattle and the Angels, yeah
Jack
3:13
Who do you think the Yankees will sign in the SS department
Anthony Franco
3:13
Seager seems like the best fit there to me
Angels
3:13
Do we finally get the pitching help we need?
Anthony Franco
3:14
I'll probably publish a full Angels' outlook today at some point, but yeah, I'd be surprised if they don't land an impact starter this winter
Kirk
3:14
Best case scenario for the Nats offseason?
Anthony Franco
3:15
I think they should be more active than a lot of people might expect. Talk to the Rays about trading for Glasnow, sign a fairly young free agent position player or two (Schwarber reunion, maybe Conforto)
I don't think they're especially plausible 2022 contenders, but they've only got Soto for three more years, so there's no time for a multi-year rebuild. Put some pieces in place to try to win again by '23

Will Trevor Story come home to play?
Anthony Franco
3:16
I'm sure Texas will be in on Story. Astros, Cardinals, Phillies, Angels also make a ton of sense to me
Tigers and Yankees if they don't get a big two shortstop
Buxton Trade
3:16
the twins got Austin Martin and Simon Woods Richardson for Berrios. Does Buxton bring in more or less in terms of a haul?
Anthony Franco
3:17
Less, just because you're only talking about one season of control versus two potential playoff runs they were marketing with Berríos
I don't think it's a given they trade Buxton this winter at all, to be clear
Ben Cherington
3:17
Reynolds..extend him or trade him?
Anthony Franco
3:18
I don't think Pittsburgh really needs to do either right now. He's controllable via arbitration through 2025. I'd be open-minded to getting blown away in a trade offer but would probably just go year by year for now
3:19
That gives you more time to see how the rebuild's coming along before you pick a direction, and I'd want one more season of elite play before I invest in Reynolds as the face of the franchise type of player

Better chance for the Mariners: Bryant for 3B, getting one of the SS to move over, or neither?
Anthony Franco
3:20
Bryant feels like the better chance, but I don't think they'll end up spending quite at that level ultimately. I really love them as a fit for a Chris Taylor reunion
