Anthony Franco
3:17
Hey everyone, looking forward to another chat this week!
Let's dive into it
Duffy
3:18
Where does John Means play next season?
Anthony Franco
3:18
Obviously about half the league makes some sense, but I really like Seattle as a fit
3:19
They could use another mid-rotation starter, have strong farm depth, and Means' fly ball tendencies wouldn't be as big an issue in that park
sox
3:19
How will the Red Sox address the starting rotation?
Anthony Franco
3:19
Still feels like they'll wind up signing someone at the middle to back end. That market's moving quickly, but Jon Gray or -- at a lesser price -- Yusei Kikuchi are among the potential fits
Rosario
3:20
Are the SF Giants one of the front runners for Suzuki or is it too early to tell?
Anthony Franco
3:20
I expect them to be in the mix at the very least, but it's too early in the process for me to peg a frontrunner
Kevin
3:20
Who is more likely to be traded this offseason: Jesse Winker or Austin Meadows? And, which player are you more bullish on over the next couple of seasons?
Anthony Franco
3:20
I think Meadows is more likely to be traded, but Winker's the far better player
3:21
It doesn't seem like Cincinnati wants to tear everything down, just try to walk the tightrope of being competitive while cutting costs
Now that's obviously what the Rays do essentially year in and year out, but I think they'd be more open to offers on Meadows than the Reds would be on Winker
Tiger Fan
3:21
What SP could the Tigers realistically sign for $5-10M this winter? Cobb? Bundy?
Anthony Franco
3:22
Cobb probably lands at the higher end of that range, maybe over two years. Bundy feels like a plausible fit at the lower end, but we really haven't heard much on the status of his shoulder
3:23
He feels like a guy who might wind up needing to go the showcase, low base salary, high incentive route
Adge
3:23
Confidence Jays sign one of Ray/Gausman/Rodon?
Anthony Franco
3:23
I think it's more likely than not they get one of those guys. Ray still feels likeliest to me
Bikini Clad Fat Dude
3:23
Wong and Yan no longer on the 40 Man. Precursor to something in the works Maybe?
Anthony Franco
3:23
Nah, the Angels had to DFA those guys earlier in the week to accommodate their Tyler Wade and Aaron Loup pickups
3:24
That's not to say they're done or anything, but Wong/Yan getting waived isn't an indication anything's imminent
mariners
3:24
What would it take for us to acquire both Means and Mullins from the O's?
Anthony Franco
3:25
An incredible amount, far more than I expect Seattle to be willing to offer given that president Jerry Dipoto has already called their elite prospects off limits
I don't think the Orioles will have much urgency to move Mullins. He's controllable for four more seasons, now looks like a legitimate star
3:26
At some point, you do need core players (preferably position players) to build around as you come out of a rebuild. Mullins feels like one of those guys to me
hi8is
3:26
With the December 1st CBA deadline and lockout looming, how much activity do you think we see in the coming week?
Anthony Franco
3:26
I think we'll see quite a bit, since it seems a good chunk of players and teams are understandably anxious to try to avoid that uncertainty
3:27
Both Ken Rosenthal and Andy Martino have suggested over the past couple days that Corey Seager might even sign before the end of the CBA. I don't know that that's likely, but it seems like a real possibility at least
James Click’s son
3:27
are the Astros interested in CF or just in Sterling Marte?
Anthony Franco
3:28
I'm sure they'd look into trades if the Orioles or Pirates made Cedric Mullins or Bryan Reynolds available too
But that doesn't seem especially likely, and I think a McCormick/Meyers/Siri group is generally fine
Not great enough to rule out potential star acquisitions, but not a huge need either
Cubs
3:29
Are we saving our money?
Anthony Franco
3:29
I'm sure the Cubs will do something this offseason. They reportedly put forth an offer to Matz
3:30
But I don't think they'll be seriously in on nine figure guys. That kind of mid-tier player feels more likely to me. Nothing the Cubs have done in the past couple years suggests they want to ratchet up payroll in 2022, and the roster just isn't one or two players away from contention anyhow
grw
3:30
availability of benintendi?
Anthony Franco
3:31
I don't think the Royals are itching to move him or anything. They want to compete in 2022
3:32
But I'm sure they'd take calls, since it's not like Benintendi's lit the world on fire over the past couple years. At a projected $9.3M arb salary, there doesn't seem to be huge surplus value there anyways in my book
Reds
3:32
Does sonny gray end up getting dealt?
Anthony Franco
3:32
I would guess yes. It just feels like the easiest way to shed payroll, since as I mentioned in yesterday's post on the topic, the higher-paid guys just seem really hard to move
