I wouldn't say they're lukewarm on Rodón so much as they prefer to construct their rotation via shorter-term signings, presumably because of the heightened injury risk for pitchers

What is the ideal scenario for LF/DH for the Rangers? Is it moving on from Leody and just getting a CF? And leaving LF to in house options?
Anthony Franco
5:24
Kind of depends where their spending level ultimately settles. They're a strong on-paper fit for Nimmo but getting both him and a free agent ace might be beyond their comfort level
5:25
If you go into the middle tier, Benintendi or Haniger work there pretty well. I'm more bullish on Leody than Bubba Thompson but wouldn't say either should be locked in as a starter. I think Justin Foscue might eventually end up in left field with the infield depth they already possess

If the Dodgers sign a front line starter, what kind of trade return could they get for Bobby Miller or Ryan Pepiot? Could they get Adames out of Milwaukee?
Anthony Franco
5:27
In a vacuum I think Bobby Miller's the kind of guy who'd lead a package for Adames, yeah. Pepiot's a bit below that. I'm skeptical Milwaukee actually entertains an Adames trade this offseason though

Thanks for the chat. Cardinal fan here...Cards and Blue Jays have matched up well in the past. Do you anticipate one of their catchers moving our way? Kirk for Nootbar plus fringey top 100 MLB prospect or a top 30 cardinal prospect?
Anthony Franco
5:27
Kirk's more valuable than that
John
5:27
Mullins/Hays/Santander. Any getting traded?
Anthony Franco
5:28
Would be pretty surprised on the first two. Think Santander gets moved for rotation help, yeah
Bill G.
5:28
I am surprised that Ben Cherington (Pirates) has not addressed the catching situation at the big league level.  Last year was a mess in the offseason and he used 8 catchers during the season.  I know we have some prospects but they are at least a year away.  An experienced catcher is vital to pitcher development.  What do you see happening?
Anthony Franco
5:29
They'll add a catcher for sure. It'll be a Roberto Pérez type probably. Not necessarily him again, but Zunino or Barnhart would work. It's still early
Doug E.
5:30
Your best guess who starts at short for the Dodgers.  I hoped they would keep Trea but seems unlikely.

Do you think that there is potential for Justin Verlander to come to the Phillies? The Astros really don’t need to re-sign him.
Anthony Franco
5:32
I picked the Phils as my JV landing spot at the start of the offseason. It's more viable if they miss out on the top shortstops though; that appears to be the priority right now

Should we be worried about a rebuild? I’m not sure what the heck is going on but rumors of Adames/Burnes/Woody being shopped around is very unsettling
Anthony Franco
5:33
Nah they're not rebuilding. This is just what Milwaukee does. It's similar to the Cleveland and Tampa Bay models. They avoid full rebuilds while maintaining mid-tier payrolls by trading good players with a year or two of remaining arbitration control
5:34
I don't think they'll move any of those guys this winter. Hader, Renfroe and Wong (who I expect to go) probably keep the payroll manageable. But by next offseason, at least one of them will have been dealt. Milwaukee never fully commits to a rebuild or to truly going all-in

5:35
What kind of a return will it cost to acquire Kolten Wong?
Anthony Franco
5:36
Probably not much more than the Renfroe package. Wong at $10MM is fine value but it's not a huge surplus
White Sox make sense there, sure
BLOCKBUSTER
5:36
Rhys Hoskins, Nick Maton, 2 propects not named Painter or Abel to the Guardians for Emmanuel Clase, Zac Plesac & Owen Miller. Cle needs offense, Phils need pitching.
Anthony Franco
5:36
Guardians aren't trading Clase
Falvey
5:37
do I make big moves for the twins this offseason? If so who are my big targets?
Anthony Franco
5:38
It all kind of revolves around Correa for them right now. They're trying to keep him, and if they do, then you're probably looking at some bullpen additions and maybe a trade to reshuffle the outfield mix
5:39
If he walks, then they'll have to figure out shortstop. If they miss out on the entire top four, they have more payroll space to make a real run at a top-end starter
javey baez
5:39
What would javy get on the open market? 5/95?
Anthony Franco
5:40
Man he'd be a tough one to value. Under 95, I'd probably guess four years at like $60MM. He had a really rough offensive season

What’s everybody’s infatuation with Nimmo as a top free agent? Back of the baseball card isn’t impressive.
Anthony Franco
5:42
He has a career .385 on-base percentage and can play center field

hi anthony - first time long time - i see the a's trading smurphy to the highest bidder, but it seems all their moves (olson, chapman, etc) have brought back not a ton of super inspiring players. what gives? i'll hang up and listen
Anthony Franco
5:45
The A's tend to deviate from public prospect rankings a fair amount in their trades. They seem to particularly place a premium on performance in the upper minors (more so than other orgs and outlets) on the pro scouting side
5:46
Getting Semien and Bassitt in the Samardzija trade turned out incredibly well for them. They landed Laureano from the Astros for almost nothing. They've had their hits
5:48
Last offseason's looked really bad in year one. I liked them more than most at the time but thought Pache and particularly Kevin Smith would perform better than they did. I still think the Chapman one will turn out alright thanks to Gunnar Hoglund, but the others are tougher sells at this point. Really need Langeliers to play well
Budget Bob
5:48
What does an Andrus contract look like for a budget conscious team?
Anthony Franco
5:48
One year for like $8MM

Will halos be in on top 4 SS. Is a trade possible for Tim Anderson or Ahmed Rosario?
Anthony Franco
5:50
Doesn't seem like they're going for one of the top four shortstops. They've been aggressive early but there's no indication they want to make a long-term deal like that
5:51
Rosario's probably available. Doesn't hurt to try on Anderson but I'd be surprised if the White Sox move him. It's not like they'd really be selling at the peak of his value, and they're already light in the middle infield
