Holy moley -- there's actual Hot Stove-y stuff to talk about kinda sorta. What a time to be alive.
4:43
Sorry for the late start here, folks. All kinds of scheduling gymnastics going on this week, but next week's schedule should be more conventional. Tim Monday at 2 CT, me Tuesday same time, Jeff Thursday same time.

Anything new about Pederson to the South Side?
Steve Adams
4:44
I don't think the two sides were ever in especially serious discussions, and Rosenthal tweeted recently that the Dodgers aren't close to anything with Joc.

4:44
After agreeing with Pollock, is Realmuto a possibility for the Dodgers?
Steve Adams
4:45
If anything, I think Pollock to the Dodgers makes a Realmuto deal more likely. It's much easier for them to part with Verdugo now, for instance.

Why do we only get one year deals?
Steve Adams
4:47
There have been nine multi-year deals for relievers already with at least one more coming (Kimbrel) and maybe another one or two stray multi-year deals (likely smaller scale, though).

As is often the case, it pays to sign early. I'd imagine some of the guys who are taking one year now went out into the market aiming a bit too high and saw others pass them by.

Yanks done for the offseason?
Steve Adams
4:48
I imagine they're done with significant moves unless the Machado market just doesn't progress and they feel they can't pass up on where his price lands. Probably will see some minor league deals to bolster the rotation depth... that sort of thing.
T-Mobile

Who can we get for Encarnacion? or should we keep him for the year?
Steve Adams
4:49
I don't think the Mariners would get much of anything for Edwin at this point. Might just be better to keep him for the year, hope he rakes, and flip him in July. Return still won't be great, but there'll be more teams looking for bats and fewer that are generally available than there are at present.

twins make another major league move?
Steve Adams
4:51
I don't see why they wouldn't at least add a reliever, but that'd still be underwhelming. If the Twins head into 2019 with their offseason consisting of something like CJ Cron, Jonathan Schoop, Nelson Cruz, Blake Parker and Ryan Madson, and they have $0 on the books in 2020, I feel like they'll be praised for being "savvy" and making solid one-year investments. In reality, I think that'd be a substantial failure for a club that had (or at least should have had) clear motivation and the resources to aim vastly higher.

Considering that the Astros outfield isn't locked up long term, is it likely or wise for them to deal Tucker for Realmuto?
Steve Adams
4:53
I'd trade Tucker for JTR without thinking too long, frankly. The Astros are built to win right now and owe it to themselves and their fans to go for the jugular. Tucker's obviously an elite prospect, but adding Realmuto helps to ensure a division title, deepens the playoff roster, etc.

And with all due respect to Tucker, corner outfield is about the easiest position to fill in free agency or trades.

Markakis was just signed to be a bench player and the Braved actually are going to add _______________ to their lineup.
Steve Adams
4:54
If you set the over/under at 139.5 for games started by Kakes in RF, I'd take the over.

4:54
would Carlos Gomez be a possibility in CF for the Reds?? or with Puig one head case be enough?
Steve Adams
4:54
At this point, Gomez is a minor league deal guy, so might as well.

And side note, at what point does Harper take a one year deal, now that LA is out?
Steve Adams
4:55
Harper taking a one-year deal isn't happening.
4:56
Though it'd be entertaining to see what he signed for. $50MM?
Kyle
4:57
Any word or speculation as to what trade AA was saying the braves are 70% completed with
Steve Adams
4:57
Nah. Generally speaking, I think fans would be surprised by the number of trade scenarios that are discussed and by how many of them get to that 75%-ish mark. Like 1% of trade discussions are probably ever leaked out to the public.

4:58
Will the Cubs make any more bullpen additions, or do you think that they are finished
Steve Adams
4:58
I was mildly surprised to even see them sign Brach. I'm sure they'll bring in some guys on a few minor league deals, but I wouldn't expect much more in the way guaranteed money spent.
BartoloHRBall
4:59
Does Bartolo Colon have a shot at a major league contract or is an invite to ST and/or minor league deal the best he will do?
Steve Adams
4:59
Minor League deal with an invite

Keuchel re-signs with the Astros on a 4 year deal, $19MM AV with an opt out after 2 years. Yes or no?
Steve Adams
5:01
I've been wondering more and more if he'll make his way back there. I wouldn't rule it out entirely... giving him the old Shields deal like that feels possible.
The Fonz
5:01
Easy for me to spend the Twins money, but if I was running the show in Minnesota I would go all in this year. They have plenty of available money, the Indians are getting worse, and the rest of the division is weak.
Steve Adams
5:03
I'm with you. The Athletic reported last night that they made a multi-year offer to Grandal (though that could've been like 2/20, who knows) -- but their lack of aggression is weird considering the Tigers/Royals aren't trying, the Indians have gotten worse, and the White Sox will be significantly better by 2020.

5:04
Should Nick Castellanos be on my radar and if yes what is a good ask on a bat only corner OF with 1yr of control?  Clearly ATL didnt't like DET asking price.
Steve Adams
5:05
(Farhan Zaidi = Giants president of baseball ops)

Castellanos' glove at AT&T -- err Oracle -- would be a nightmare, and he's a one-year rental. I don't see why the Giants would be paying that price when they know they're a long shot to contend.
Yankees just made their deal with Ottavino official

Does Gio Gonzales ever pitch in the bigs again?
Steve Adams
5:06
He'll sign within the next few weeks I imagine -- probably for quite a bit less than we predicted at this point.
Dan
5:07
Yankees 'could really' use a proven Lefty Power hitter in line up!!.........Hoping Cashman realizes Harper at 1B on a 6 or 7 yr deal would make sense!
Steve Adams
5:08
What makes you think Harper would take a 6 or 7-year deal, though? If Scott Boras told teams Bryce Harper was willing to sign for 6 or 7 years, he'd instantly have 8-10 new suitors... and the price would then just move back up (toward the 10/300 he already rejected)
