Steve Adams

Greetings! I'll get to as much as I can in the next hour. Feel free to start asking questions immediately while I rummage for my laptop charger that has curiously gone absent
3:50
Success!

Chances of White Sox signing Machado/Harper next offseason?
Steve Adams
3:52
Putting odds on that type of signing even this time next year would be a crapshoot. That said, I don't really expect them to be a huge player for either.... there will be more clear contenders making strong pitches to them

Whose a better fit for the Angels Hosmer or Moustakas?
Steve Adams
3:53
Between the two, Moose fits their roster better. Generally speaking, I'd advocate signing Moose over Hosmer, as he comes with more defensive value. Hosmer was terrific for the final five months of the season or so, but it's just way easier to find a competent first baseman than it is third baseman
Luis Castillo
3:54
How do I stack up to Luis Severino? Could I make the jump like he did next year?
Steve Adams
3:55
I'm not a scout, but Castillo has never been anywhere near as highly regarded a prospect as Severino. Still think he's a pretty easy bet to be Cincinnati's best starter in 2018 right now though.

Realistically, how do the Marlins sell off players like Stanton, Gordon, Ozuna, & Yelich, and not cause every fan to feel like, here we go again?
Steve Adams
3:57
There's no real way to do that, so I'm sure that's what ownership will have to weigh. I don't think a total firesale is necessarily as likely as some people anticipate... a Stanton trade is just going to be so complicated for a litany of reasons that it seems silly to me to assume it's a foregone conclusion, for instance.

With Matt Chapman and Matt Olson locks for 3rd and 1st base, respectively, where does Ryon Healy fit? Exclusively DH?
Steve Adams
4:00
Oakland's DH or someone else's first/third baseman (trade). I can definitely see Healy being shopped around, but I don't know if there's huge value there. He has power, but he can't take a walk... if someone thinks he can hack it at 3B in a passable fashion, sure go after him. If not, then he's not all that different from Tommy Joseph

Can the Twins snag Mickey Calloway to be their new pitching coach? His contract is up, Twins have vacancy and Falvey connection.
Steve Adams
4:02
I have to imagine the Indians would have a leg up on retaining Calloway, and as a coach, he's already comfortable in a pretty great spot. It'd be a nice pickup for them, sure, but I don't think I'd count on it just because he's worked with Falvey in the past.

If the Royals don't resign Hoz and go into a rebuild, do they trade any big leaguers over the winter? And if so, who?
Steve Adams
4:04
If they go the rebuild route, Kelvin Herrera is an easy trade candidate, as is Joakim Soria. Outside of that, I don't know who they'd really entertain moving. Danny Duffy's value isn't at its apex right now, and he's still around four more years so there's no urgency in shopping him. Alex Gordon has negative trade value. Salvy has value, but I have to imagine there'd be threats of a riot in KC if they moved him.

Chances Girardi did enough the last 2 games to save his job?
Steve Adams
4:09
I'm not certain -- it depends how much the Chisenhall debacle truly put him in hot water. For most of the season, I haven't really anticipated that he'd be in much jeopardy. But, that was about as impactful and disastrous as a single managerial decision can be. (Sorry for the delay -- my connection cut out for 45 seconds or so there)

Who do you believe has the best core to actually be competitive in a couple of years- Royals, Tigers, or White Sox?
Steve Adams
4:11
Right now the White Sox seem closer to contending than either of the other two do to me, though the Royals have enough veteran rebound candidates that I can see them fielding a decent team in 2018 more easily than the Sox. But, if we're talking 2019 and beyond, as you suggested, Chicago

Is Hosmer that much better then all the bargain bin First basemen that appear to be available for cheap?
Steve Adams
4:15
He has more ability than just about any of them, but his consistency is going to be a strike against him in free agency. He hit .336/.402/.532 over his final 143 games this season, which is a ridiculous clip anywhere -- let alone with half the games coming at Kauffman. But he's never strung together a pair of consistently excellent seasons.

Ultimately, in a vacuum, yes he's clearly better. But is he reliably so much better that I'd say "Yeah let's give this guy $100MM+ as a free agent?" Not for me.

Jake Faria?? Flash in the pan or solid rotation piece for the Rays??
Steve Adams
4:17
Solid rotation piece for me -- not necessarily an ace or anything, but someone who can do something comparable to what Odorizzi has done on the aggregate over the past three seasons there. Needs to show better control than he did down the stretch -- both in and around the zone, which will help with the walks and homers - but he's a good looking young piece
4:18
Worst case scenario, I think he's at the very least a quality relief arm, but he'll get plenty more chances in the rotation

If Pujols plays another 5 years of -WAR ball, does he diminish his chance at the HOF?
Steve Adams
4:18
He's going into the Hall no matter what.

What will the white sox do this offseason?
Steve Adams
4:19
White Sox Offseason Outlook will go up within the next 24 hours!

What are the chances the Reds sign a top end starting pitcher this off season?
Steve Adams
4:19
Virtually nonexistent, sorry.

Yasmany Tomas for Mark Trumbo, who says no?
Steve Adams
4:20
I don't really see how taking on the larger contract helps the Orioles there
Adam Steves
4:20
How did the fantasy league pan out?
Steve Adams
4:21
Jeff edged Tim and myself at the end. No threepeat here, but I'll look to begin a new dynasty in 2018 :)

4:21
Do Giants go pitching w/ #2 pick in draft or decide to take a batter?
Steve Adams
4:22
I've gotten lots of questions about the top picks of the Giants, Tigers and other teams today, so let me just say that no team has any clue who it will draft next June.
Or even whether it'll be high school or college, pitcher vs. hitter, etc. -- things will change so much over the course of next year's college and prep seasons that it's impossible to know
Alex Cobb
4:23
Will I sign my 5yr/105m Contract with the Cubs before the Winter Meetings?
Steve Adams
4:24
Cobb has never thrown even 180 innings in a season. He's not sniffing 5/105. Any five-year deal would be unprecedented for someone with his lack of durability. Brandon McCarthy only recently became the first SP to ever get a four-year FA guarantee without multiple 180-inning seasons under his belt.
