I imagine he'll sign with a contender and sign at more money than the Mariners would want to spend anyway. We've gone back and forth on him a lot, ranging from things in the three-year/$42MM range to $16-18MM and upwards of four years. I don't have a firm prediction myself yet and need to look at it a bit more closely, but I think either is more than Seattle will spend on a starter. I think, as Dipoto has already said, they'll be more keyed in on the bullpen.

I expect them to make an aggressive bid for JTR - they tried to trade for him -- but I don't think the Reds are going to outbid the Phillies, Mets and Nats.

Why did they not trade Lynn in season? Seems like has value was at a max for a non contender.

The way Texas GM/president Jon Daniels framed the market, it sounds as though if he'd taken the best offer on Lynn, we'd be sitting here asking "How on earth could the Rangers only have gotten XYZ for Lance Lynn given how well he was pitching? Surely they could've gotten more this offseason."
We can't and won't know the extent to which that is true, but Daniels basically said that moving Lynn would've been making a trade just to say he made a deal and took some action. That's a bad way for any GM to operate.

He's the favorite to be the #1 pick next year right now, but a ton can change in that time.

Think about all the high school juniors who are growing into their frame and athleticism that scouts didn't get a chance to watch at all in 2020. It's not hard to envision a massive breakout from someone like that.
Or, especially since Rocker is a pitcher, he could just get hurt.

Should the Phillies not keep Realmuto & with all the other money coming off the books, could they pivot to Springer & Bauer?

I think Springer/JTR are going to be comparable in terms of contract, and if that's the case, it's a tough sell for Phils fans (and the clubhouse) to let Realmuto walk but then sign Springer. If both are going to get five years at $25MM+, they almost have to give it to the guy they already know.

If JTR gets the sixth year or Springer has to settle for less than that, it becomes another stoyr.
