I can certainly get behind that scenario, yeah. The Cardinals need to shake up the lineup. Brantley would add an excellent and underrated hitter on a reasonable length deal (probably two years). Bader's glove would draw wide interest.

I do wonder if, at some point, Mozeliak gets gunshy about trading away yet another young OF though, ha.

Priorities for the Reds? Obviously TB...what about SS?
Steve Adams
2:31
I don't think the Reds have much of a shot at meeting Bauer's offers from other clubs. Adding a competent arm to backfill the rotation and as you said, finding a shortstop. They'd be a good fit for Didi Gregorius or, if he's QO-free (which I expect) and looking for a short-term rebound, Marcus Semien.
Trevor May
2:31
Who is my best fit this winter? Do I get more than two years?
Steve Adams
2:32
I don't think there's any singular "best fit" for a guy who should be one of the most in-demand relievers on the market. May has the huge velo and whiffs that'll make him one of the buzzier relievers, even though he doesn't have the ninth-inning track record. I think he's a three-year guy, yes.

Jesus Luzardo for Jeff McNeil who hangs up?

Oakland

With the short season will the teams actually trade, sign FAs or cry the poor blues? Other than the ubber rich (Dodgers, Yanks etccc)?
Steve Adams
2:33
Hi Dad!
(I assume that's not my father -- though that is his name!)
2:34
I think most clubs will be scaling back spending and crying poor. There's already been considerable talk about the Yankees doing just that, too, so I wouldn't assume they're going to break the bank.
2:35
Dodgers still seem like they'll spend. Angels, too. I expect the White Sox to keep their foot on the gas, and the Blue Jays are in a better position to spend than most would think. I'd call them a "dark horse" to spend a ton, but I'm not sure that applies when you're talking about a club that spent more than $100MM on rotation pieces alone last winter.

Trade Lindor and then sign Gregorius, or would that just equally complicate the finances in Cleveland?
Steve Adams
2:37
If they trade Lindor, I think the replacement will be cheaper than Gregorius. They'll either get a young SS-capable infielder back in the deal or go ultra-cheap with like a Villar or Galvis type. I still like Didi in the $12-15MM range annually, and I don't feel like Cleveland would consider saving $5-8MM enough to justify the Lindor move.

Any chance to see a rerun of the Stro Show in Toronto, given their desperate need for quality SP innings behind Ryu?
Steve Adams
2:37
It was pretty ugly there toward the end, with the front office talking about how they wanted to extend him and had tried, and Stroman tweeting that those talks never happened. I don't think he'll go back to the Jays or the Mets.
Reds
2:38
Dereck Johnson paired with Marcus Stroman or Jake Odorizzi could be nice for both sides.
Steve Adams
2:38
I can see the Reds on either of those guys if/when Bauer walks, sure. Odo would be more in their price range, I think.
Rangers
2:39
If we trade Lynn this winter, could we get two BA Top 100 prospects?
Nolan Gorman
2:39
Could I be big league designated hitter ?
Steve Adams
2:39
If Lynn could've been traded for two top 100 prospects, he'd be on another club right now.
2:41
Gorman, one of the Cards' top prospects, hasn't played beyond High-A yet -- and we don't even know when/if the DH will be added to the NL. I assume post-2021, at which point Gorman will be close to the big leagues. But even with questions about his glove, the Cards will want to give him a chance to prove doubters wrong at 3B or 1B.
Don’t mess with the Farhan
2:41
Do the Giants re-sign Gausman and Smyly? Who else are some potential SP targets?
Steve Adams
2:44
I have Gausman as the No. 2 SP in free agency myself, so I don't know that they'll want to meet his price. A Smyly reunion seems more plausible. There could be lots of guys available in the two-year range ... Garrett Richards, Taijuan Walker, Mike Minor, Jose Quintana. Giants seem like a good landing spot for Robbie Ray, too, if he wants a big park to try to rebuild value on a one-year deal.
Brewers
2:44
Should we pick up Gyorko's option? Do we?
Steve Adams
2:44
It'd be a perfectly defensible move, but I feel the Brewers will expect similar skill sets to be available at a lower price -- especially this winter.

2:45
Do you see any top tier free agent signing with the Detroit Tigers?
Steve Adams
2:45
I do not.
Sergio Romo
2:45
Am I telling hitters to keep on talking from the Target Field mound next summer?
Steve Adams
2:45
Romo's option has gone from easy exercise to a coinflip for me. Lately I've begun to lean slightly against it getting picked up.
Update '88
2:46
Does this World Series justify the Dodgers giving Corey Seager a nice resigning offer, or do they stay the course and conserve space for keeping Bellinger for the longer term?
Steve Adams
2:47
Don't need the World Series as justification. Seager was awesome during the regular season, too.

Both are Boras clients, though, so I wouldn't expect either to be signing a club-friendly extension.
(Both = Seager + Belli)
How about Joc

Platooning with Adam Engle and spending big on a pitcher instead of springer
Steve Adams
2:51
Engel really only has like 125 good PAs against LHP in his career. He was just bad against everyone prior to '19.

The route you suggested seems fine, but I don't think there's a pitcher that represents the same upgrade that Springer would, outside of Bauer of course. And Bauer has said he wants to sign with an analytical team that has strong data/technology practices, which isn't the White Sox.

Also, if the Sox do go with AJ Hinch as their top candidate for manager, as has been rumored, I don't know that Bauer would be jazzed about playing for him after being SO outspoken about the Astros scandal.
Lucas Giolito
2:52
Should I be panicking if the Sox don't re-sign James McCann?
Steve Adams
2:52
The White Sox will not re-sign McCann.
Guest
2:53
Can you see the Mets adding Bauer and Stroman, or some equivalent to Stroman? With Realmuto on board they should make the Mets much improved. Could Springer be on the Mets radar, too?
Steve Adams
2:54
I mean, I know Cohen has tons of money, but if your expectation is that the Mets are going to sign the top SP, the No. 2 or 3 SP (who didn't seem to have a good run with the club), the top catcher and the top outfielder .... you're going to be one disappointed fan.
