Chat with MLBTR's Steve Adams: 10/27/20

I think at least short-term, it'll make them a less-desirable destination for free agents. Money talks in the end, so not everyone will care, but particularly if their offer is comparable to another suitor, some guys will decide they don't want to go there. Correa, Altuve, Bregman, etc. -- a lot of those guys genuinely lost the respect of their peers and built up quite a bit of animosity.

Will the Twins extend me this wi ter? If not, could I find myself in a new team by spring training?
Steve Adams
3:21
They haven't been able to agree on a price to this point, so I'd lean against it. But even if they can't extend him, there's no reason to trade him. They want to win next year, he's one of their three best pitchers, and he's controlled through 2022. They can just ride it out with him and make the QO if they choose.

Is gio urshela a free agent?
Steve Adams
3:22
Yanks control him through 2023.

How many innings do I see as a starter next year
Steve Adams
3:23
Depends entirely on what other rotation moves the Dodgers make this winter (and whether Gonsolin is even a Dodger in 2021)

could the Tribe get May and Lux for Lindor ?
Steve Adams
3:23
For one year of him? No

Could the Pirates trade Josh Bell and who ever gets him would move him back to his original position as an OFer.
Steve Adams
3:24
They could trade him, but his value is so low that I think they're better off keeping him into 2021 and hoping he starts raking again.

I'd be stunned if anyone put Bell in the OF on anything more than an emergency basis

Much has been made about whether I should offer Brantley a QO or not, but it’s a no brainer right? We need OF help or draft capitol
Steve Adams
3:26
I'd be thrilled with Brantley at 1/19 (well, 18.9), but not sure the 'Stros want to commit to that so far in advance. Then again, they inexplicably gave Yuli $7MM guaranteed after a terrible season.

Does Rodon get DFA'd.
Steve Adams
3:26
I expect him to be non-tendered.

Arbitration Why do players always get more money even if they have a bad year or on the DL all year?
Steve Adams
3:27
Players who spend the year on the injured list don't get raises. They almost always agree to the same salary they agreed to the prior offseason.
3:28
Players who had a poor year get raises because the system rewards guys for going out and taking the field. These are guys who are generally making a fraction of what they'd make on the open market in the first place.

Do you agree the Yanks are done with Paxton?
Steve Adams
3:29
I think he'll sign elsewhere, but it's not like they've had some major falling out that'd make it a huge shock if he returned.

Which pitcher would you rather have if you were a team owner? Stroman, Paxton or Tanaka?
Steve Adams
3:29
Contracts matter, but if we're talking in a vacuum, give me Stroman.
