Steve Adams

Happy offseason! Lots of key dates in the next few weeks, as can be seen here:
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/10/the-mlb-offseason-begins-2.html
Our annual ranking of the Top 50 free agents, with contract estimates and destinations should be up by Friday of this week as well.
Let's get underway
No, your name
3:15
Sox reink Eovaldi to close, let Kimbrel walk. Feasible ?
Steve Adams
3:16
They could let him close, sure, but they have some holes in the rotation and could just plug him in there, as well. I'd utilize him as a starter, personally, but teams will have varying opinions on his best role. I think he can be quite good in either.

Talk me off the ledge Steve! Brodie??? No experience within baseball operations. Great, he can negotiate a contract and deal potentially with the NY media, but isn't there SO MUCH MORE to the position than just that?
Steve Adams
3:16
I am dumbfounded by their decision, so I can't help you at all.
Dan
3:16
If Harper really already has a deal in place, what are the chances he's going back to Washington?
Steve Adams
3:16
He doesn't already have a deal in place.
Brian
3:17
any word yet on Clayton Kershaw or Brett Gardner?
Steve Adams
3:17
I'll be stunned if Kershaw doesn't opt out, and while I'm less convinced, I'd imagine Gardner's option is bought out by the Yankees and he inks a modest two-year deal elsewhere
Bob Melvin
3:17
Do any of my infielders win a gold glove Sunday?
Steve Adams
3:18
I don't really see how anyone but Chapman wins at 3B
CubbyPhil
3:18
Any chance, at all that Theo moves Hayward? SD, maybe?
Steve Adams
3:18
I suppose he could eat like 75% of the remaining money, but no, I don't think there's any realistic scenario in which he gets moved.
3:19
Especially not to San Diego, where they already have way more OFs than they know what to do with
Matt
3:20
do the Dodgers re-sign Dozier? any current players trade bait?
Steve Adams
3:21
Think they have enough 2B options without him and would expect he'll want to go somewhere where he'll be in less of a timeshare situation. Back to the Twins if that bridge isn't burned. Nationals, perhaps. Rockies. Feel like he's a one-year guy right now.
AJ
3:21
Does 2/$16M get Andrew Miller?
Steve Adams
3:21
I think the name value, upside and lack of impact lefties available pushes demand past that point.
Quintin
3:22
Red Sox gonna start inking some of there “Killer B’s” to long term extensions this winter?
Steve Adams
3:23
Bogaerts only a year from free agency at this point so I'd imagine that ship has sailed. Mookie would cost them north of $300MM most likely, but I get the feeling that wouldn't necessarily curb their interest. Benintendi seems more plausible than either of the others since he's still pre-arb.
Billy Beane
3:23
Any chance that I make a move for Syndegaard?
Steve Adams
3:24
Brodie Van Wagenen is sitting at a press conference right now saying the Mets are 100% go-for-it, win-now mode and he expects to be "in on every free agent."

So there is that.

Braves trade for Realmuto and sign Harper?!?
Steve Adams
3:25
JTR is at least plausible to me, though other clubs will be in the mix and aren't in the division, which could be a factor for Miami. I see scarcely more than a zero percent chance that the Braves sign Harper.
NOT Mickey Koke
3:25
Can Rockies' D.J. L play 3B?
Steve Adams
3:26
He has a couple hundred MLB innings there, but his glove at 2B is very arguably his most valuable asset.
Henry
3:26
Will the Phillies go after Harper or Machado??
Steve Adams
3:26
Both. They're my pick for Manny
Mike
3:26
What can Bumgarner realistically bring back in trade?
Steve Adams
3:28
I wouldn't really get too invested in the idea of a MadBum trade. Baer has said he wants to compete every season, and I don't know that he'll give a new GM his blessing to come in and gut the roster. Guess we'll see who the hire is and what direction they imply in introducing said GM, but I'm not viewing Bumgarner as a trade candidate unless I hear them concede that they need to take a long-term approach this winter.
No crying in baseball
3:29
Any ideas on the Nationals catcher and 2nd basement FA signings?
Steve Adams
3:29
Grandal + Dozier would be perfectly doable for them, though there are multiple avenues they could pursue -- particularly at second base. I'm sure even Nats brass has no clue who they'll end up with, but I like both of those fits.
Brandon
3:30
Does Joe Panik get tendered a contract?
Steve Adams
3:30
I'm on the fence, though in talking with Tim and Jeff while mapping out our Top 50 list, they both seemed to think he'd get another look.
Hahn
3:31
Donaldson potential fit for White Sox?
Steve Adams
3:32
I've got Donaldson signing a one-year deal, so he's a fit lots of places -- White Sox included. Cardinals, Twins, Braves to a lesser extent -- the possibilities are pretty substantial when you're talking that type of upside on a make-good contract
Angels
3:32
Who do you think the Angels will realistically get?
Steve Adams
3:34
I think they'll be in the mix for a durable starter who they feel pretty confident can get them 30+ starts. That, to me, is Keuchel or Happ in this market. I lean the former, though Tim Dierkes rightly pointed out when discussing our top free agents that there's been some animosity between Arte Moreno and Scott Boras in the past. They should add a LH bat to the mix, too -- Murphy is a decent fit if they feel his shockingly bad defensive output in 2018 was tied to his knee troubles and that he can be better in '19
