Sox Salary Dump
2:57
Sox eat 30 million of Price and 15 million of Eovaldi.  Is that enough to find a sucker?
Steve Adams
2:58
That'd leave Price with three years and $66MM remaining on his contract. Eovaldi with 3/39. Neither pitcher would get that on the open market coming off the seasons/injuries they just had.

What does a return(in trade) for Nomar Mazara look like?
Steve Adams
2:59
He's a league-average bat without much in the way of defensive value -- as big of a deal as Mazara was as a prospect, I don't think he'd fetch anything all that interesting in a trade.

Seattle *might* look for a rebound arm, such as Wood or Porcello (or both), but seem highly unlikely to cough up a draft pick to pay Cole or Strasburg 30+ million AAV before they're really ready to contend. At some point they'll need to acquire a front-line starter, though. Do you think they're more likely to buy one down the road, or trade for one with perhaps one of their many outfield prospects?
Steve Adams
3:01
Their GM, Jerry Dipoto, has stated on numerous occasions that he views trades as a preferable approach and considers free agency more a means by which to supplement an already strong roster. They're going to hope they unearth a top-end starter with their rebuild, and if not, the likeliest path to getting one is probably via trade.

Does Rendon get close to $300 million?
Steve Adams
3:02
I think he can get over $200MM but that he'll be closer to 200 than to 300. Arenado got 7/234 in new money on his contract. I can't see Rendon commanding too much beyond that.

Who is a change of scenery candidate to be the other half of a Wil Myers swap?
Steve Adams
3:04
Rougned Odor? David Price? Would need some additional dollars to be juggled around to make things even out a bit

I have read reports about teams trading for front line SP, but never see any names attached. Which (if any) frontline starters are actually available?
Steve Adams
3:06
There aren't really many. Corey Kluber's name will probably be floated around again. Robbie Ray seems likely to be available.

Most of the appealing names are guy with great stuff but a lack of consistency -- pitchers who teams believe they can coax a high-end performance out of with better game planning and some pitch-selection alterations. Jon Gray, Chris Archer, Matthew Boyd all come to mind.

Cardinals already needed a big bat.  Now with Ozuna gone How am I going to replace Ozuna's bat and get a 2nd big bat?
Steve Adams
3:10
Ozuna has only ever had one season that really qualifies him as a "big bat." The Statcast profile on him is tantalizing, as his hard-hit rates, exit velocities, barrel rates etc. are all elite. But outside of that 37-homer season in '17, he's been an above-average but not great hitter.

I think the Cards are going to have to bet pretty heavily on some internal rebounds and some steps forward from the Tyler O'Neills of the world. They're already projected to have about $167MM on the books in '20, and they're stuck with the Carpenter/Fowler/Cecil deals for the most part. Possible they bring in Dickerson or Garcia or someone of that ilk if they're struggling to find a home late in the winter, but I don't see them as big Josh Donaldson players or anything like that.

Betts to San Fran for a package including Yaz...
Steve Adams
3:11
Mike Yastrzemski is two years older than Mookie
3:12
He's not going to be a meaningful part of that (or probably any other) trade package.

Hearing a lot of talk about the Twins being big players in free agent pitching. If the top 5-6 sign elsewhere, do you see enough prospect capital for them to pull off two or three substantial trades to put a World Series contending staff?
Steve Adams
3:13
I'll be surprised if the Twins don't sign one of those top 5-6 names. But yes, their system is deep and generally regarded to be among the upper third of farm clubs. Problem is, as mentioned before, there are more upside plays than sure things on the trade market.

Last offseason we saw Lynn land a deal that seemed like a ridiculous overpay. Time proved it wasn't. Who could you see as the comparative this offseason?
Steve Adams
3:14
Kyle Gibson
Mike
3:14
Who's your prediction for an under the radar big name to get moved?
Steve Adams
3:14
Trevor Story?
Garret Richards
3:15
Do I pitch over 150 innings this year?
Steve Adams
3:15
He debuted in 2011 and has topped that mark twice. I wouldn't bet on it.
Terry
3:15
Would Pederson and Stipling get you Kluber?
Steve Adams
3:16
Pederson has one (expensive) year left. Stripling has three and he's already into arbitration. That's not going to cut it. If you want to start talking about guys like Verdugo, Gonsolin etc. headlining the deal, then maybe.
Patrice

JBJ to the Cubs for Quintana? Money looks to be even.
Steve Adams
3:18
Don't think the Cubs do that.
Zach Wheeler

I would like to stay with the Mets, will they offer me a reasonable contract?
Steve Adams
3:18
With their current payroll outlook, I doubt they'll be anywhere near the best offer:

What does Arica/shaw bring back in a package ? Anything
Steve Adams
3:19
Orlando Arcia and Travis Shaw have minimal trade value at this point. They're both closer to reclamation projects than anything else.

Yankees miss out on Cole/Stras....ryu makes the most sense from there?
Steve Adams
3:21
Ryu is probably above Wheeler/Bumgarner in terms of per-inning value, and he can be had on a shorter deal. I don't think it'd nuts to say he's the third-most desirable guy -- particularly for a club in the Yankees' position. But the durability concerns are very real, and you have to basically concede that he's going to miss at least a handful of starts each year.
Gopher
3:22
Sergio Romo going to do better this offseason than last?
Steve Adams
3:22
Yeah but I don't think he's going to get two years. Something like 1/5 though, sure.

3:23
Which of Japanese players coming over are you most excited to see?
Steve Adams
3:24
Probably Tsutsugo, since home runs are fun (hopefully some bat flips!) ... but Akiyama seems like he might be a more valuable player to a team.

Cole, Strasburg and Contreras to Anaheim is possible?
