The hot stove -- it is a sizzlin'. An actual MLB deal on Sunday (Fister) and a semi-notable Minor League deal yesterday! (Iwakuma)

Try to contain your excitement
Meanwhile, my own stove is piping hot as I make homemade smoked turkey & wild rice chowder... the MLB offseason's got nothing on the Adams household
Let's begin!

Yanks vs the field. Who you got signing ohtani?
Steve Adams
3:06
Always the field vs. any one team. There's so much presumption happening with the Ohtani/Yankees hype. That's not to say it won't happen, but we don't even know what he's looking for yet
Giancarlo Stanton
3:06
Is there still a possibility I go to Boston?
Steve Adams
3:07
Sure. I wouldn't call it a great one, but Dombrowski loves him some splashy moves, and the Sox are clearly feeling the need to add some power. Cardinals are still easily the best fit for me in terms of payroll capacity, desire/motivation to make a splash and strength of farm.

If Kang isn't issued a work visa, should I look to acquire Yangervis Solarte? Seems like a great fit
Steve Adams
3:08
Would be a fine fit that they could control at reasonable prices beyond '18 once Freese leaves. I wouldn't object to acquiring him even if Kang gets a visa -- who knows what to expect out of Jung Ho at this point?

That said, I don't think it's a critical need with Harrison, Mercer (if he's tendered, which I don't find to be a given), Freese, Frazier and Sean-Rod all on the roster

Where does Lorenzo Cain end up going?
Steve Adams
3:10
I don't feel great about the Giants pick that we had on our Top 50 at this point. San Fran and Seattle were my top two teams there, and the fact that the Mariners filled first base with a league-minimum player and brought back 'Kuma on a minor league deal gives me some reason to believe they could spend more aggressively on other areas of need (i.e. CF)

Are Rockies even in play for Ohtani?
Steve Adams
3:11
Probably a tough sell for an international pitcher to say "Hey come pitch in the worst pitching setting in our sport's recent history!" but they do have a little bit of international cash and, I'm sure, a strong desire to sign him. Every team does.
Jerry Dipoto
3:11
What you think about me? I'm crazy?
Steve Adams
3:13
I really like Dipoto. He gets a lot of flak for "destroying" farm systems, though Arte Moreno played no small part in tearing down the Angels' system, and the Mariners' system was awful to begin with, courtesy of Jack Z. The smaller depth moves that GMs in the Dipoto mold constantly make are always underappreciated but they add value. Sure the Chris Taylor thing sucks, but even the Dodgers are laughing somewhat at how fortunate they were with that trade. Farhan Zaidi himself said they never in their dreamed of that kind of breakout.

This has been the worst off season. SO BORING!
Steve Adams
3:14
It has been dull. There is no denying it. Should just make for an absolutely bonkers 2-3 weeks when the floodgates actually open though.

If I were to dangle Ian Happ, of this group, which is the most realistic target:  Nola, Manaea, Edwin Diaz?
Steve Adams
3:15
Nola, to me, is too good at this point. Manaea or Diaz, I'd think, could both reasonably be in play.

Do you think JD Martinez will get a contract worth 200 million?
Steve Adams
3:15
Nah, but every agent sets out asking for the moon. Scott Boras just does so more vocally than most.
Carlos Gonzalez
3:16
Does it make sense for me to take a one year deal back where it all started in Oakland?
Steve Adams
3:16
If he's taking a one-year deal, it'd be more reasonable to do so in a better hitters' park than that. I like him as a fit in Baltimore or Toronto.
Dee gordon
3:17
Everyones talking about giancarlo what about me
Steve Adams
3:17
If anything I think Dee is the likelier of the two to get traded. More reasonable contract that some team probably would be comfortable just taking on in its entirety while still giving back a bit of value.

Ian Happ for Teheran?
Steve Adams
3:18
Happ has quite a bit more value right now

Why is my team more focus on offense instead of pitching? Our best pitcher last season was Parker Bridwell.
Steve Adams
3:20
I'm a little confused by that myself, but I've talked to a couple of agents who are surprised at the Angels' lack of interest in their pitchers and have also read the stories out of Anaheim suggesting that they're looking much more heavily at bats, so it seems to be the case. There are a ton of needs up and down the lineup, and I suppose they at least have depth and upside on the pitching side with hopefully healthy Skaggs, Richards, Tropeano, etc. -- they lack that on the position player side of the equation

Do you think the Astros will go after Davis, to take the closing role, or go after Minor McGee, to have a primary LH reliever, who could possibly close, in case Giles pitches like he did in the post season?
Steve Adams
3:21
I think the Astros will be in on top-end relievers, yeah. They don't have many obvious spots for an upgrade, but that's one.

The other is DH, which is why we listed Gattis on our non-tender candidate list (which also effectively means he's a trade candidate this week, in our eyes)
Albert Pujols
3:22
I'm I out shape or is father time caught up to me?
Steve Adams
3:22
He turns 38 in January and has been dealing with chronic plantar fasciitis and other foot/leg issues for years. It is not a surprise at all that he's slowed down to this point.

Could the Giants entice Ohtani buy letting him play left 2-3 times per week and offer him to pitch 140-150 innings while giving him rest from the rotation as often as possible?
Steve Adams
3:23
Any team could entice Ohtani by offering semi-regular at-bats in the outfield (and at DH in the AL). I don't think the Giants are uniquely positioned to do so.

I this winters meetings and off season the new trend?
Steve Adams
3:24
The Winter Meetings haven't happened yet.

3:24
With a surplus of outfielders, will the cardinals trade Fowler to keep Pham in center, and possibly how many outfielders get traded?
Steve Adams
3:25
Doubt it. He has a full no-trade clause and is owed another $64MM on his contract
