Generally speaking, I think the A's will be looking primarily at upper-level  minor leaguers and pre-arb big leaguers. Dom Smith is not that.

On a more serious note, I doubt they go big enough to sign Correa or Story, so that leaves something like Simmons or Iglesias.

Scott Boras said in an interview that they're looking for multiple years, so I expect him to max out on a three-year deal now. We debated predicting something like 3/60 but figured that since a one-year deal could still land in the $20MM range, maybe he'd bet on himself now and go back out looking for $100MM+ next winter. Doesn't seem that's the case, unless Boras thinks 100+ is there right now, which would be aggressive even for him.

I think this is generally correct. They're not going to be aggressive on the big-name free agents who are left. I think they'll look for some value pickups -- either multi-year deals on affordable terms or just one-year guys they can flip in July -- with an eye toward being more competitive in 2023.

150 over 4 wouldn't even be that crazy of an AAV for Correa. If he were going to sign for four years I'd expect it closer to $200MM. I still don't think he's doing a four-year deal, though.
