I'd imagine that the Phillies are the bigger draw simply because they contended for much of the 2018 season and are going to be willing to spend more than the White Sox.

Does it make sense to jump into a rebuild with both feet for 1 year by trading Stroman, Sanchez, Pillar and Martin? Then maybe see how things look next winter?

I think they can get more for healthy/effective versions of Sanchez and Stroman midseason and would advocate them going that route, personally. But yeah -- an eventual mini-rebuild seems like it's going to have to happen.

I think the Astros and Dodgers are the two best fits for him, and I do wonder if the Brantley addition makes it easier for the 'Stros to trade Kyle Tucker. If the Astros give up on dealing Forrest Whitley (who I do not think Houston will trade at all), then I'd make them my pick. Could do Tucker + Stassi + other pitching prospect or something and see if the Marlins are intrigued.

if Tyler Austin is hypothetically DFA'd after the Cruz signing, I can see a swap to the Mets for Dom Smith plus a prospect.  What'd you think?

I don't think the Twins would DFA Austin to make room for Cruz. Could just keep him as a bench bat/insurance for now, though it does hurt that he's out of options.

They'd need a team with a legitimate need behind the dish to make a real offer that gives the Pirates some immediate bullpen help and/or a useful prospect to add to the upper levels of their farm. It would free $11.5MM for them, which is huge for a small-payroll club, and Elias Diaz seems very ready to take on a larger role.

He'll 100% be a Super 2 player. He was held back to buy an extra year of team control, which is a different thing.

I do not understand the Andujar to the Padres rumors at all. Why would the Yankees trade a young cost controlled player for pitching prospects? Seems like an anti win-now move

I don't think the Yankees believe Andujar is as good as most of their fans do. He was an awful defender at third base in 2018, and if they sign Machado and eventually move him to 3B, that's an upgrade across the board. Andujar is a nice player, make no mistake, but if they feel he's never going to be able to field or draw a walk, that limits his ultimate upside to more "good player" than "young star."

None of that is to say the Yankees don't think he's good at all. It's just that fans seem to think he's a superstar in the making. Gleyber Torres seems to me to fit that description much better.
