A lot of teams "need" someone like Mitch Haniger. He is very good at the whole baseball thing.

This is why the cardinals fans are freaking out@incarceratedbob

**BREAKING** Goldschmidt deal is now in final stages, last step is possibly agreeing to contract extension with Cardinals (could be deal breaker if no extension) OR Cards could lessen package with no agreement on extension. #DBacks

I mean, has "Incarcerated Bob" ever successfully broken any major piece of news like this?
Jeff
3:42
Surprised Donaldson got as much as he did?
Steve Adams
3:43
Nope. We projected 1/20, and I was honestly trying to push our projection closer to $25MM at one point. The upside on a one-year deal is enormous, and $23MM just isn't THAT much in today's baseball economy. Still like the signing for Atlanta.

Kluber and Kipnis to Atlanta. What can I get back?
Steve Adams
3:44
The Braves wouldn't want any part of Kipnis being included in that deal. If you move Kluber, you're better off not packaging him with a negative asset like Kipnis.
Drew Pomeranz
3:44
Does anyone out there care that I'm a free agent...?
Steve Adams
3:45
I'm sure tons of teams are interested in Pomeranz as a rebound candidate at a year and a few million bucks.
A year ago this time he was a candidate to sign a four-year deal or so in free agency.
This doesn't bode well for the Yankees voters in this chat's poll:

If Corbin has a 6-year offer as @JeffPassan is reporting he is close to signing, then all indications it will not be #Yankees who have been steadfast at 5 years.

I just read deven marrero signed a minor league contract with Marlins. the reason Boston traded him was because he was out of minor league options and they faced a roster crunch at the time. Once he signs a minor league contract, how do options work? And are there any options once they call him up?
Steve Adams
3:46
He's not on the 40-man roster by virtue of signing a minor league deal. If he's selected to the Major League roster, he'd still be out of Minor League options, meaning he'd need to be exposed to waivers before being sent back down.

Does Vlad Jr. start the season in the majors or minors?
Steve Adams
3:48
He'll be in the minors for 3 weeks, and then, once the Blue Jays have secured an additional year of club control, they'll suddenly decide he's ready for the Majors and call him up.
Klentak
3:49
Is there any market for Cesar Hernandez?
Steve Adams
3:50
There are so many 2B options on the free-agent and trade markets. I'm sure several teams would have interest, but I don't see any sort of bidding war surrounding him. He's a solid option but not demonstrably better than several similarly priced options.

Anything happening with the Giants ?
Steve Adams
3:50
Have to think they're focusing on some internal hires right now while plotting out exactly which direction they want to go. They got a later start than some other clubs with the timing of their Zaidi hiring.

Hot. Duh.

does andrew mccutchen make sense as a righty bat for mets?
Steve Adams
3:51
I think the Mets have enough corner outfielders as it is
Corbin to the Nationals, per Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post.
Les Gomez
3:52
Wheeler for Ozuna, who says no?
Steve Adams
3:52
I'd take Wheeler. I assume the Mets feel the same.
(As do the Cardinals, probably, ha)

If the Mariners decide to flip Santana, do you think the Twins would be a fit? What would the trade look like?
Steve Adams
3:55
Sure, I think they could be a fit. Falvey obviously knows Santana well from his time in CLE, and they could do something like a 75-25 timeshare at 1B/DH with him and Cron (obviously with Santana seeing more 1B time than CJ).

Twins shouldn't have to give up much in that deal other than taking on some of the salary Santana is owed, honestly. If they don't want the third year of that Jason Castro deal following knee surgery, maybe they could flip him back to Seattle to lessen the commitment to Santana.

Nationals best rotation in baseball now?
Steve Adams
3:56
It's pretty stacked, but the fifth spot being a toss-up between Ross and Fedde is still a little shaky, and their upper-level depth isn't great.
Jon
3:56
Does that take them out for harper
Steve Adams
3:57
Assuming this is in reference to the Nats. I don't think so. They'd pay the luxury tax, but their books clean up in the not too distant future with ZImmerman and others hitting the open market. They were supposedly fine with the idea of trying to extend Rendon and sign Bryce, and the luxury tax commitments there would've been larger than signing Corbin and signing Bryce.
Zane Adams
3:57
Corbin is not a stud.   And six years?   what if washington is wrong?
Steve Adams
3:58
I disagree that he is "not a stud." And you can ask "what if they're wrong?" anytime a team signs a premium free agent. If they're wrong, the Nats have the payroll capacity to get by.
Tyson Ross
3:58
Should I go back home and Sign with the Oakland A’s ?
Steve Adams
3:58
A reasonable fit as far as I'm concerned.

Is it likely for Sonny Gray to be traded to Milwaukee?  How much could the Yankees expect to get for him?
Steve Adams
4:00
I don't know that it's the best use of Milwaukee's resources. They already have Nelson, Chacin, Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta, Anderson, Davies and Guerra ... Gray isn't a slam-dunk upgrade over the bulk of that group after last year's struggles, and he's not exactly cheap.

They're one of many possibilities but they're not my favorite pick for him, and I think if they're going to add a starter, it should be someone who's a clearer upgrade over five or six of their internal options.
