Is there a chance that the Astros extend Verlander this spring?

Verlander is out here ripping owners and blasting teams for not spending. He's very pro-labor and, as such, I doubt he's signing for anything less than what he perceives to be market value. Since he's almost 36, I think he knows that an extremely long-term deal i off the table. But he'd absolutely look to top Greinke's $34.16MM record.

So if the Astros are willing to give him $105MM over three years or something like that, sure, it's possible.

Ausmus said today he expects him back (as a DH) in May. Pitching, we're looking 2020.
