Ryan Brasier? At this point I don't expect them to sign anyone, so him or Matt Barnes.

Does Casey Mize get a mlb start this year?
Steve Adams
3:37
I'd bet on early 2020 for Mize (who was the No. 1 pick in the 2018 draft by the Tigers). Has yet to pitch in Double-A, and what's the rush for the organization? Keep him down until mid-April next year and they get another year of control.

I don't like the tactic, but if you're a front-office person, it's kind of hard to justify surrendering a year of control over a player in exchange for a few meaningless innings in a losing/rebuilding season.
LOL no way Cole gets that
3:37
Has no one been paying attention to FA? Cole won't get anywhere near 200 million.
Steve Adams
3:38
I mean, Patrick Corbin (same age as Cole) just signed for $140MM over six years. Cole has more of a pedigree and more of a track record. I have a hard time predicting seven years, but he should get more than Corbin did over six seasons if he's healthy in 2019.

If CC falters, could the Yankees do some bullpening with the crazy arms they have?
Steve Adams
3:40
They could, sure, but they also have a fair bit of depth with Domingo German, Chance Adams, Jonathan Loaisiga, Mike King (if he's healthy) .... not a bad slate of fallback options. But, sure, they could also tinker with the opener and bullpenning and all that.

Would it make sense for the Indians to move Salazar to the closer role?
Steve Adams
3:41
He's for sure going to the 'pen. I think at this point they're just hopeful he can pitch, period. Specific roles for him are probably the last of their concerns at this moment.

Name one team from the NL and AL that made the play offs last year that will not be there this year.
Steve Adams
3:42
I'd bet against the Rockies and the A's if I had to, I suppose. Cubs could miss.

Thor says he's open to an extension.  Is this even on the Mets' radar right now?  No way he makes deGrom money right?
Steve Adams
3:44
He'd command less than deGrom, of course. Less service time, fewer innings, further from free agency, etc.

I'd think deGrom is their priority. They still control Thor for three more seasons.

Are the Brewers done signing players now that they overpaid for Moose?  Still need a SP.  Do you think they would have been better off signing Dietrich (if they could have got the same deal) and using the $8M for Gio?
Steve Adams
3:45
I don't think they overpaid; I quite like the deal for the Brewers and, for that team, would prefer Moose at 1/10 to paying Gonzalez at a similar rate.
And Moose > Dietrich, though I was surprised to see no one would give Dietrich a 40-man spot at least.

Do I end the year as a SP or RP?
Steve Adams
3:46
I expect he's a reliever when all is said and done.

Can MLBTR set up an alert to ring our phone when Harper or Machado sign?   Should have a month or two to get it in place!!!
Steve Adams
3:47
I know that was a joke, but we literally already have a mobile app that'll do that for you, ha.

3:48
Any chance Kimbrel locks on with a surprise team like STL, SD, Min?
Steve Adams
3:48
I could see the Twins or Padres if he's willing to take a high-AAV two or three-year deal. I think the Phillies and possibly White Sox could get in the mix if they land one of the big two

Does Clayton Kershaw get 200 IP this year?
Steve Adams
3:50
I wouldn't bet on it after three straight seasons of time on the whatever-you-want-to-call-the-list-of-players-who-are-hurt list
Super 2
3:50
Will the Blue Jays keep Vlad Jr down until mid summer to avoid Super 2? They seem cheap enough and probably won’t contend for the outset...
Steve Adams
3:51
Nah, they'll have him up once they've bought the extra year of control.
Troy S.
3:51
Hey Steve, do you think the pirates will sign a 5th starter
Steve Adams
3:52
Already have Kingham with Liriano, Lyles, Holmes, Slegers as depth options and a more highly regarded arm looming in Keller.
Asking for a friend
3:53
Are you rethinking your 4/$36 for Marwin? A 30 year old with a career .737 OPS seems like like a 3 yr/$20 guy to me.
Steve Adams
3:55
I think the past couple offseasons have made pretty clear that no one is getting paid for what they've done previously. Gonzalez having a .636 OPS through his first three seasons doesn't really have any bearing on how he'll perform in '19 and beyond (plus no team is looking at his OPS anyway).

I could see him doing three at a higher value but I do still think he's going to end up getting paid rather nicely
Cash-Man
3:55
I got a pretty sweet deal with the Severino extension, didn't I ???
Steve Adams
3:56
Yeah. I like the extensions for both Severino and Nola. There's a pretty low level of risk for teams to overcome in those types of contracts.

Any hope for the AL Central?  Indians are not that good and look way ahead already
Steve Adams
3:57
I could see the Twins being more of a factor than most people expect.
Service Time
3:58
How do you tell if a player is being kept down to get an extra year or if he's just plain not ready?
Steve Adams
4:00
When a player hits .402/.449/.679 in more than 200 Double-A plate appearances and .336/.414/.564 upon being promoted to Triple-A ... he seems fairly ready. Vlad Jr. is going to get called up right after enough time has passed that he can't get a full year of service in 2019 (should be 15 days this season). Eloy will be in the same boat.
Hiram Bocachica
4:00
Why doesn't KC or Bal sign Ervin Santana?  If he pitches well for a few months, they can trade him to a contender.
Steve Adams
4:01
Nothing's saying they won't. He could also be looking for a contender from the get-go. I agree he's a nice rebound candidate and would be a good possible trade chip for a non-contending club.

Will I ever pitch in MLB?
