Greetings all -- apologies on the late start. Tim Dierkes called to talk through some things, so you can blame it on him, ha.
When in doubt, blame your boss!
Let's get underway

Any chance Scooter reunites with the Reds?
Steve Adams
3:30
Maybe on a minor league deal, but they never extended him even when he was hitting well and there was all the talk about how he was a Cincinnati native -- I don't think it'll be a huge priority for them.
Tiger Mike
3:30
What additiona do you see the tigers making before the season starts?
Steve Adams
3:31
Al Avila plainly said late last week that he doesn't expect any more additions. Maybe they'll make some waiver claims or something during Spring Training, but if you're looking for a Puig deal or some veteran arm on a minor league pact, I wouldn't hold your breath.

What will Kyle Freeland be this year?
Steve Adams
3:34
I never really bought him as more than a fourth starter. The 2018 season seemed like a huge outlier; doesn't miss many bats, doesn't have elite control or huge ground-ball rates ... I don't think he's as bad as he was in 2019's juiced ball bonanza, but he seems like a low- or mid-4.00s ERA innings eater type. If he's anything more that's a win,.

what's my deal?
Steve Adams
3:34
Full go for spring workouts is the word out of Mets camp right now.

Pillar signed cause JBJ is traded to San Diego?
Steve Adams
3:34
Pillar signed because the Red Sox had three LHH outfielders
3:35
The Red Sox can say they're trying to win in 2020 all they want, but they're clearly OK with taking a step back this season so I don't think they're particularly worried about having a set replacement if they trade Bradley.

Does Yasiel Puig make sense for the White Sox? A RF platoon with Nomar Mazara might work.
Steve Adams
3:36
Puig has hit righties better than lefties for much of his career, and I'm sure he's looking for a regular role -- not a platoon gig

3:37
Good afternoon. Although they have a crowded outfield , is Puig  still a possibility for my Tribe? I am still not comfortable with the talent Thank you for your time!
Steve Adams
3:37
I doubt Puig would be interested in the type of low-cost deals the Indians would offer
There's a reason they signed Domingo Santana instead

3:38
Any chance Kipnis breaks camp with MLB squad? Would be a great veteran presence in the clubhouse.
Steve Adams
3:38
I think there's a very real chance Kipnis opens the season at second base with the Cubs, yeah

If Rockies are slow out of the gate, do Arenado trade talks begin to heat up again?
Steve Adams
3:40
If (when) the Rockies prove to owner Dick Monfort how delusional his "projection" of 94 wins was, they'd be insane not to shop Arenado, Gray and Story at the very least. Oberg and others as well. This team is just not well positioned to win in the near future, and the influx of MLB-ready talent they could get by being proactive as opposed to stubbornly clinging to the idea that they're good enough (see: 2014-15 Reds) could help to avoid a long-term rebuild.

Will we see another slew of extensions this spring?
Steve Adams
3:42
The healthier offseason free-agent market could serve to ease some worries among guys who'll be free agents next winter. We always see a decent slate of extensions for pre-arb and arbitration-eligible guys and I expect this year will be no different. In terms of the 5+ service class taking as many extensions as they did last year, I don't think that'll be the case at all.

3:42
As far as the Twins are concerned, who do you think the prime or likely extension candidates are?
Steve Adams
3:44
I imagine they'll try with Berrios and Buxton. I don't see Garver as a prime extension guy since he's a late bloomer and is already controlled through his mid-30s. Could see about tacking a year onto Cruz's deal or revisiting long-term talks with Odorizzi. Trevor May (free agent next winter) or Taylor Rogers would make some sense if they're not gun shy about committing multiple years to relievers.

Moreno said they are still look for a starter.  Who?
Steve Adams
3:46
He said their goal is to add a high-end starter during the season. The exact composition of the trade market can't be known, but as I've said in the past, some names I expect to be out there: Jon Gray, Johnny Cueto, Jeff Samardzija, Chris Archer, Caleb Smith, Matthew Boyd, Danny Duffy, Joe Musgrove, perhaps Robbie Ray ... I'm sure I'm blanking on some obvious ones but this is an off-the-cuff list! Haha

Im hearing Aubrey Huff is not invited to the reunion of the 2010 Giants.  Any idea why theres friction between former player & team?
Steve Adams
3:48
Look at the guy's Twitter account.

He can whine that he's been uninvited because of his "political views," but he's not being banned because he's a republican; he's being banned because he's a racist, misogynistic asshole and the team wants to distance himself from him. That's their call and their right.

3:48
Why is Dom Smith still with the Mets?
Steve Adams
3:49
They value his bat and think he's valuable in a part-time role or as a Pete Alonso injury safety net. I don't think too many teams are offering up huge packages for 1B/DH only types anyway; it's generally not a tough position to replace (relatively speaking, that is)
Adam
3:50
Do Puk and Luzardo start off in the bullpen to keep innings down early on?
Steve Adams
3:51
Whether they start there or are just given some spells in relief, I think the A's will find a way to manage their workloads over the course of the year.

Why does Manfred hide behind union appeals as a reson for non  Suspension of astros? Players get suspended all the time for cheating (steroids, pine tar)
Steve Adams
3:53
For PR purposes alone, he could've gone after the players and then when Tony Clark/the MLBPA put up a fight, at least Manfred could've portrayed Clark as the villain to fans. Right now he just looks utterly incompetent.

More inexplicable is how on earth Jim Crane didn't get punished.
(Not really -- Crane is one of the votes to keep Manfred in power, so ... shocker, he's not guilty of anything nopenopenopenopenopenope)

Predictions for worst teams in each league? I'm taking Baltimore and Pittsburgh.
Steve Adams
3:54
Orioles are an easy pick. In the NL, the Pirates might slightly edge out the Rockies for me, but it's close.
