Steve Adams

Greetings, angry Rockies fans!
2:08
Sorry to get things running a bit late -- I'll be sure to go past the 3pm CT mark
Preller
2:08
Who’ll be my closer for 2021?
Steve Adams
2:10
I'd lean toward Pomeranz over an external addition. Doesn't mean they won't sign a reliever in San Diego, but I don't think anyone out there is going to be an upgrade, and he already has the contract. I suppose they could bail out whichever reliever -- Rosenthal, Colome, etc. -- has to settle for a one-year deal, give him the ninth and use Pomeranz in more high-leverage spots. But that seems like they'd need some dominos to fall their way, and DrewPom is their best reliever.

I, admittedly, did not mean to publish this.
But uhhh... Tree to you too?
That’s it, Fort Pitt
2:11
Does Pittsburgh add any veteran bench pieces to act as mentors to all the new, young players? Has that practice lost appeal in recent years?
Steve Adams
2:11
They did it just last year with Dyson. I would imagine they're certainly open to it if they can get a piece or two at like $2MM or less. Could easily net them a July trade chip.
2:12
Agh, have to answer this call quick. Sorry. One min.
2:13
Ok
David
2:13
Do you see the cardinals making anymore moves??
Steve Adams
2:13
Does re-signing Yadi count?
Zachary08
2:13
Are the Reds getting a SS for 2021?
Steve Adams
2:16
The Amed Rosario rumors certainly make sense. I know most fans want Trevor Story there, but Jeff Bridich said today he'll open the year in Colorado, and the Reds considered Didi & Co. too expensive. Story costs more.

They could sign a Jonathan Villar type or maybe try to get Niko Goodrum or someone of that ilk. Doubt the Tigers plan to contend this year, and Goodrum has piled up a few years of service now

2:17
Which Ranger will be traded?
Steve Adams
2:18
Prior to the season? I they'll subtract anyone of much note at this point. Come the trade deadline it could be another story; Joey Gallo, Kyle Gibson, Joely Rodriguez, Jose Leclerc -- lots of names will probably be available.
Lyles if he bounces back, for sure.
Tyler
2:18
Do you expect a ton of moves in the next week?
Steve Adams
2:19
I expect we'll see an uptick in some mid-range deals, yeah, but a lot of these free agents are going to sign after camp startd.
starts, even.

2:19
Why did I trade for Alex Cobb?
Steve Adams
2:19
I legitimately have no idea what compelled the Angels to make that move. I get it if you want an able-bodied veteran to soak up some innings, but man ... could've kept Jones and just signed Fiers or Shoemaker or Porcello or someone for a few million.
2:20
Not that Jahmai Jones is any sort of elite prospect, but if you even think he can be a passable bench piece, why make this move? There's just nothing outside Cobb's ground-ball rate that looks too appealing.
Youppi
2:20
Do the Red Sox sign Marwin Gonzalez?
Steve Adams
2:20
Doubt it. They're like $4MMish from the luxury tax threshold.
Rockies
2:21
Who is next on the trade block? Gotta think Marquez and Gray would get some people calling
Steve Adams
2:21
You'd think so, but GM Jeff Bridich and owner Dick Monfort both said today this isn't the beginning of any sort of major tear-down.
2:22
It should be, but as the Rockies have shown us time and again, they aren't any sort of lock to follow a logical trajectory.
Braves????
2:23
What are we doing?
Steve Adams
2:23
What they've done every year under Anthopoulos: aggressively pursue a few key targets early and then wait to scoop up some value deals late in the winter. This is how this front office operates.

2:23
Will the Rockies get a top 100 prospect for Story?
Steve Adams
2:24
Since they're apparently not trading him until this summer, I wouldn't call that a given, no.
Nick
2:24
Will the twins sign another starting pitcher?
Steve Adams
2:24
I don't know if they'll sign one or trade for one, but yeah I think they'll add another arm to the rotation mix.
Maz Mania
2:25
Do you see Adam Frazier being moved before the start of the season? If so, where are the likely destinations?
Steve Adams
2:27
I think there's a pretty good chance of that, yeah. Potential fits, just to name a few: A's (sadly, the Bucs might need to kick in a couple million), Indians, Royals, Cubs, Brewers... doubt the Pirates care much about dealing within the division.

Could Oakland acquire Story to stay competitive for one more year before he walks?
Steve Adams
2:28
The A's just offered Marcus Semien a one-year, $12.5MM deal that paid him $2.5MM in 2021 and had the other $10MM deferred over a 10-year span.

They're not taking on Story's $18.5MM salary.
Nor are they giving up the talent they'd need to acquire him and make the Rockies pay the freight.
