Williams did finish the year with a shoulder injury, if I remember correctly. He wasn't on the post-season roster.
Steve Adams
2:42
Touche! I forgot about that. Although as I recall, he'd have been on the roster for the next round had they advanced.
2:43
Still, that eluded me. Does make things a bit closer, but that Williams changeup still wins out for me.

What are the odds that Marquez gets traded before May (if at all)?
Steve Adams
2:45
Certainly not before May. I just don't see this Rockies club ever coming to grips with reality. Their refusal to accept that the current roster isn't that good is a hallmark of the organization. You can point to Monfort's absurd "94 wins!" prediction pre-2020, but he's been doing this forever. He nixed a trade that would've brought Eduardo Rodriguez to the Rockies from the Orioles (before Baltimore traded him to Boston) because he didn't want to give up on the season and trade Jorge De La Rosa.
That was like 8? 9? years ago.
Jake Odorizzi
2:46
Do you think all the spots for me have just vanished? Am I asking too much? I mean, I've been pretty good and Tai Walker just got 3 years, what gives?
Steve Adams
2:48
Walker got three years in name only. He's never picking up that player option unless he gets seriously injured again. They added the player option to artificially drive down the luxury hit of the two-year deal they actually want him for.

I don't think Odorizzi is asking too much, assuming the three-year, $45MM asking price was indeed what he was seeking. It's just a crappy time to be a mid-tier free-agent starter. The only starters who got multi-year deals this winter were Bauer (a class of his own), Walker (a step below Odorizzi both in price and quality) and Chris Flexen (KBO lotto ticket)
Oh, Mike Minor too
Still -- it's not a great winter to be a starter hoping for multiple years.

What the heck is going on with Jackie Bradley Jr? Is he just getting really low offers?
Steve Adams
2:50
SNY reported that he set out looking for $50MM+ over four-plus years. If that's the case, then I'm not surprised he's still out there. And I like JBJ more than most!

What does an extension for Freddie Freeman look like? Can ATL get it done?
Steve Adams
2:50
Take the Goldschmidt deal (5/130) and juice the AAV a bit?

I'm sorry if this has been mentioned already but... Scott Kazmir??? Can you give us some insight, because I'm sort if confused.
Steve Adams
2:52
It's a minor league deal. There's not much to question.

And as I said in our post on it, this is the third different Zaidi team he's signed with. It's obvious Farhan believes in the arm. He hit 92-93  mph in a recent 'pen. Why not? He's guaranteed nothing.

Have you heard any news on Marwin Gonzales singing with the Red Sox?  A deal was announced over a week ago but no official news as of yet. Maybe the Sox are trying to make a trade to make room on the 40 man roster?
Steve Adams
2:54
Chaim Bloom acknowledged the agreement late last week and said they were working toward making it official. Could be a number of reasons. Might've had a visa issue, might be working on some kind of corresponding 40-man move (though they could just DFA Payamps yet again). I imagine we'll know something more concretely this week.

What happened to the Instagram or Youtube account? I never see any new content on either anymore.
Steve Adams
2:55
Just a matter of where we wanted to spend our time, money, resources, etc. when revenue was down for us as well during the pandemic. We're working to get the YouTube channel back up and running as we speak. Since Jeff is now only part-time with us after purchasing a business of his own, you'll be stuck looking at my awkward face. I apologize in advance!

One of my goals this offseason was to make sure we hit left-handed pitching better. Let's be nice and assume Joc Pederson is an upgrade there. Did I do anything else to address that now that Phillip Ervin is gone?
Steve Adams
2:56
Joc Pederson is not an upgrade against left-handed pitching.
Even over Schwarber
2:57
I guess Jake Marisnick can hit lefties a little bit, but otherwise, no they didn't do much.

2:58
Is Richard Rodriguez my closer? Who plays CF?
Steve Adams
2:58
I would expect Richard Rodriguez to close for the Pirates, yes.
2:59
Center field ... woof. Some combo of Anthony Alford, Bryan Reynolds and Brian Goodwin? Derek Shelton already said Cole Tucker will work more in the infield than in the OF, so sounds like they're done with that outfield experiment.
It's too bad for Jackie Bradley that the Pirates won't spend anything. They could use him, and I'm sure if given his way, Cherington would happily welcome one of his former Red Sox back into the fold.

Any chance the Braves get some bullpen help (Greene or anyone else) instead of stacking the bench or are they looking internally?
Steve Adams
3:01
They made an offer to Rosenthal, so it seems they're still open to adding

Is Odorizzi a good insurance fit until Sale and Rodriquez can prove they're back to form?
Steve Adams
3:01
Sox ownership isn't going over the luxury tax.
3:02
But yes, Odorizzi would be a very good signing in Boston if John Henry woke up one day and remembered what market his team plays in.
Pathetic Pirates

Roster Resource has Rodriguez closing and Alford in center

Jason is awesome at what he does
Jackie Bradley Jr.

Should I sign with the brewers even though they have a crowded outfield. Or should I go back to the Red Sox?
Steve Adams
3:05
Again, I don't think the Red Sox would sign anyone of note -- at least not without finding a way to dump some other money. The Brewers thing ... I'm sure Milwaukee is interested in an "at our price and on our terms" sort of way, but I doubt they're winning the bidding there. He might wait a week and see if a team has an injury and decides to up its offer.
Or just jump into the market after being out of the mix entirely.

Who starts opening day?
Steve Adams
3:07
I don't know the answer to this, but when the best-case scenario is to hope they trade for Amed Rosario so they don't have to give Dee Strange-Gordon the nod, that's a really rough situation.

Brutal offseason for Reds fans. They should be livid with the team.
