Hey there -- sorry to get things underway a bit late. Wanted to get a quick post about the Renato Nunez thing up on the site. Let's get underway!
Cyrus

Any bullpen help coming for the Mets?
Steve Adams
2:15
I'll be surprised if they don't add another reliever and/or starter on a low-cost deal. Probably will add a couple NRI types as well.

Really shocked, surprised Nunez didn’t get a major league deal!
Steve Adams
2:16
He's a DH who can't get on base and whose overall offense is slightly above the league average
He went unclaimed when he was projected to earn $2-3MM in arbitration. A big league deal hasn't seemed likely for him all winter. Teams don't spend much on this type of player

Rotation help for the Cards?
Steve Adams
2:18
Seems like they're exploring it, yeah. Linked to all three of Odorizzi, Paxton and Walker within the past week. Derrick Goold noted that they're in on Odo, and you're not going to get much better Cards info than you get from Goold.

Are the royals getting any interest in anyone before spring training as of right now?
Steve Adams
2:19
"Getting interest" as in trade interest on their own players? They're not going to trade away any big league pieces; Dayton Moore has said he wants to win in 2021.

If you're asking if they're showing interest, they're still poking around the market for some veteran left-handed bats.
Justin

Justin Wilson to the Mets by the end of the week?
Steve Adams
2:20
I feel like if they wanted to spend on Wilson, they'd have signed him over Loup. He could technically still push Barnes out of the 'pen, but I find other fits for him likely. He was connected to the Twins pretty strongly last week, for instance.

Are The Nats done for the off-season?
Steve Adams
2:21
There are something like 100 big leaguers still unsigned. I don't think any team is totally done. Everyone's going to add some SP/RP/bench depth on non-roster deals at the very least.
Jays fan
2:21
is the rumours of the jays interests in Marian Gonzales any more than due diligence?
Steve Adams
2:23
Marwin is rapidly approaching "Gallardo" levels of offseason interest... that is, his camp is getting like 3-4 reporters a week to talk about how hot his market is and how many teams want him, and yet ............ here we are. (Yovani Gallardo's free agency was excruciatingly obnoxious, particularly when considering that he was, uh, Yovani Gallardo.)

I think there are better fits than the Jays, though Marwin can't be thrilled that the Mets just signed Villar.

What's the latest on Adam Duvall?
Steve Adams
2:24
Jon Heyman tweeted like 6 minutes ago that the Marlins are on him but would need to "stretch the budget." For Adam Duvall. C'mon, Marlins.

Kris Bryant, Craig Kimbrel and 15 million dollars to the Braves for Drew Waters and Austin Riley? Who says no?
Steve Adams
2:24
Cubs fan, I see.
2:25
(No way the Braves do that)
John
2:25
Are you surprised bauer went to LA
Steve Adams
2:26
Nah, we picked the Dodgers as our landing spot for him back when we did our Top 50 free agents. I've always thought they made the most since, because they try every winter to get premium free-agents on high-AAV short-term deals that most would consider player-friendly in nature. All that seemed right up Bauer's alley, especially as a SoCal native and UCLA product.
ATX Halo
2:27
With all the 1 year deals on the Halos roster, are they just waiting till next year to be aggressive in free agency?
Steve Adams
2:28
I'm sure there's some of that at play, but modern GMs are just increasingly favoring shorter-term deals. And new Halos GM Perry Minasian worked alongside a GM who had strong preferences for such arrangements, Alex Anthopoulos, at multiple stops.

Any chance Villar takes over at 2B and moves McNeil to 3B and JD to the bench or a different team>
Steve Adams
2:29
Mets fans sure soured on J.D. Davis quickly. The dude can hit. Starting Villar everyday over him probably makes them a worse club. Villar isn't a good defender himself.
Markakis

Seems like a great fit for the Royals. Always has really. Am I wrong?
Steve Adams
2:29
Scientific answer forthcoming: he has a very, very "Royals" feel to him.
And the Royals want a lefty bat, love them some veteran leadership, etc.

Any hope that Rosenthal comes back home to KC? And, Pedro Gomez will be missed. Excellent broadcaster.
Steve Adams
2:30
The Pedro news was so, so sad.
2:31
I don't think the Royals will spend at Rosenthal levels, no.
PTBNL
2:31
What time frame does MLB give teams to name PTBNL?
Steve Adams
2:31
Six months, I believe. I know they revamped the rules on it a couple years ago, but pretty sure the timeframe stayed intact.

Next year, Giants are gonna need to fill out the majority of a team.  Even with all the money coming off the books, I can't imagine they are going to be able to build anything even remotely close to competitive.  For a franchise that seemed to want to fast track a rebuild, did they go about it the wrong way?
Steve Adams
2:33
They've rapidly improved their farm, found some nice cost-efficient, controllable pieces on the scrap heap (Yaz, Dickerson to a lesser extent) and they'll have massive capacity to add to the payroll. They probably won't go from middling third/fourth-place team to division contender in a single year's time -- especially not with how stacked things are in LA and SD -- but they'll be in a good spot.

Dee Gordon can’t be reds answer at ss.  Surely there is someone coming that is playable
Steve Adams
2:35
It's been two months since the Reds dumped Iglesias' salary and non-tendered Bradley, Casali, Goodwin. GM Nick Krall said at the time the plan was to "reallocate" resources; it's looking like those resources were "reallocated" to Bob Castellini's pockets. They might make a small-scale trade for an Amed Rosario type, but they've already missed the boat on every free-agent of note. Don't get your hopes up.

Tough offseason to be a Reds fan. I'd be extremely dejected.

Does Justin Turner really think he could get a 4 year deal from someone? Dodgers at 2 year with 3rd Option seem reasonable to me.
