Steve Adams
4:04
Greetings -- I inexplicably spaced on the fact that yesterday was Tuesday and I was scheduled for a chat! No excuse other than my own absent-mindedness. Apologies!
Rick Hahn
4:05
Is Puig worth a 1yr deal for me?
Steve Adams
4:06
Question is more "Will Puig take a one-year deal?"

At 1/5 or something, sure he's worth it for just about anyone, but we have no evidence that he's willing to sign that type of deal. If he were, he'd probably be in camp somewhere by now.
(Also, Rick Hahn = White Sox GM ... will try to remember to clarify those)
Angels
4:07
Is dylan bundy spring making you think he's better than what he was in Baltimore?
Steve Adams
4:09
I don't really think 11 spring innings from anyone is going to wildly change my opinion on someone. Bundy's K/BB numbers this spring are phenomenal, but he's always been strong in terms of K-BB%. His problem has generally stemmed from home runs.

To that end, getting out of Camden -- and the AL East in general -- will probably help him to an extent. As will the (hopeful) dejuicing of the ball itself.

Braves 40-man roster is crunched. To make way for guys like Hernandez, Tomlin, etc. who will get the boot off the roster?
Steve Adams
4:13
Grant Dayton seems like the obvious one to me ... the other one will probably be a case of someone who's been pretty good of late (or still has some upside/options remaining) getting booted. That's the difficulty in having such a deep roster.

Could also just opt to move on from Tomlin rather than add him to the roster.
Red Sox
4:13
Do you see the Sox carrying 3 Catchers? If not who wins the backup battle between Plawecki and Lucroy? After all Lucroy played for Roenicke in MIL.
Steve Adams
4:14
I'd give the edge to Plawecki over Lucroy, who just hasn't been good in 3+ years now. Plawecki might not be much with the bat, but neither is Lucroy, and Plawecki's the better defender at this point.

Opening day starter... Freddy or Woodruff....
Steve Adams
4:15
I'd bet Brandon Woodruff starts Opening Day for the Brewers
David Stearns
4:15
Could you see the Crew winning the Central this year?  Everyone seems to be sleeping on them.  Their roster has a lot of potential that I feel everyone is overlooking. Knebel healthy, potential Cain and Burnes bounce backs.  Theres a lot of talent on this team that was mostly absent last year
Steve Adams
4:17
I've said recently that outside of the Pirates, I can see any of the four teams winning the division. I agree on the Brewers flying a bit under the radar. People knock them every year for lacking name value -- particularly on the pitching staff -- but they generally excel when it comes to maximizing the guys they do have by limiting their trips through the order, finding appealing matchups, etc. I'll be more surprised if they're buried in the division at season's end than I will if they win it.
From Where You’d Rather Be
4:18
If the US puts a moratorium on ‘public gathering over x1000 people’ like other countries, will we have a full year of baseball ??
Steve Adams
4:19
I don't think even the CDC could accurately answer that question just yet -- I certainly cannot. There are so many unknowns with COVID-19 still, but I do think it's important to work to mitigate the spread of the virus.
Grayson
4:19
People seem to have written off the Yankees already. Wouldn't you still consider them the team to beat in the AL?
Steve Adams
4:19
I don't get the sense that they've been written off -- nor should they be.
Stubby
4:20
Should they add super utility player to the all star game ballot?
Steve Adams
4:20
At some point, as teams continue to blur the lines between a player's positional designation, the All-Star ballot should modernize and work to catch up.
King Kelly
4:20
Better chips: Lay's or Doritos?
Steve Adams
4:21
Wavy Lays and Spicy Nacho Doritos are king
Merwyn
4:21
If Miggy shows he is healthy and relatively "normal" offensively is there a market for him in July if Avila picks up a part of his contract? With Fielder and Verlander coming off the books it could be doable.
Steve Adams
4:21
No one's touching the Cabrera contract
4:22
I mean, if he's raking like vintage Miggy and the Tigers pay him down to $3-4MM per year or something, I guess maybe a market develops, but even then he has full no-trade rights
Matthew Boyd
4:23
I’m having a great spring, do you think a contender would rescue me from the Tigers before the season starts?
Steve Adams
4:23
No, I don't think we'll see a trade of that magnitude in late Spring Training
4:24
This summer -- quite possibly. But Boyd had a great 2-3 months in regular-season ball last year and still didn't get traded. His spring performance probably isn't doing anything to radically elevate his stock
Zak
4:25
Do you think Franklin Barreto makes the opening day roster? Since he’s out of options, I’d image other teams might try to scoop him up?
Steve Adams
4:25
I think Barreto opens the season as the A's second baseman. Mateo could be a utility option ... Tony Kemp is more on the bubble for me.
Kc
4:27
Who will close for KC and STL
Steve Adams
4:27
Ian Kennedy in Kansas City
I'd bet on Giovanny Gallegos in St. Louis, but Alex Reyes is an interesting wild card
MoKo
4:28
Mariners are planning to play home games at Peoria when the governor halts their plans of playing in Seattle; wouldn’t this cause ticket holders to travel thus spreading the virus? Non aware virus carriers could attend either venue I guess
Steve Adams
4:29
I don't think it's accurate to say they're planning on that. They've considered it. I'm sure the concerns about asymptomatic fans traveling to Arizona is one of the many concerns they'll weigh when exploring alternatives.
NowhereMan
4:30
Currently the Mariners are rolling with 6 viable SP (knock on wood) with Gonzales-Kikuchi-Sheffield-Walker-Graveman and Dunn all viable options. Not to mention depth pieces capable of starting like Margevicius, Chen, Swanson, etc. Do you see a possible match-up between them and a team hit by the injury bug, like the Yankees or Red Sox (now Indians potentially)? M's are going nowhere this year so a reclamation piece on a short deal (like Graveman or Walker) might be flippable, no?
Steve Adams
4:31
Walker and Graveman were both free-agent signings, so they can't even be traded without their consent until June 15. Later this summer, either of those guys could become a trade piece -- they probably will, if reasonably healthy and effective -- but nothing will happen with them right now.
Cards Fan
4:32
Who starts in left field for the Cardinals?  Carlson call up date if it isn't him?
Steve Adams
4:35
If Carlson doesn't open the season as the left fielder, I'd imagine he'll be a consideration within a month's time -- particularly if Tyler O'Neill or Lane Thomas or whoever does win the job struggles.

The Cardinals haven't played the service time games in the past that so many other clubs, so I do think that if they feel Carlson's their best option, they'll be willing to make the move. They're trying to win what should be a tight division race, after all.
Yankees
4:35
We won 103 last year basically without Andujar or Montgomery, with 30 different players making 39 trips to the IL.  Then we added Cole.  Paxton's back in May, German in June.  I'd say we're teh World Series favorites.
Steve Adams
4:37
Sure, but you also got world-beating performances out of Mike Tauchman, Gio Urshela and DJ LeMahieu, and none of that bunch can be expected on to repeat his ridiculous numbers. The sub-2.00 ERAs that Ottavino and Britton posted are also a bit questionable (although Ottavino has been dominant in spite of sky-high walk rates in the past).
