Greetings! Another Tuesday, another chat.

Let's chat!

Ariana Grande in the house. I'm honored. Let's roll.
Mancini
2:11
Do you think I’m likely to receive an extension offer before I hit free agency?
Steve Adams
2:11
He's a feel-good story, but it's likelier to me that Mancini hits the trade market than signs an extension. He'll be a free agent after the 2022 season, and this club isn't going to be contending by then.

Shane greene, why's he still available?
Steve Adams
2:13
I think I touched on this last week, but my assumption is they went out looking for multiple years and a decent AAV based largely on ERA, when teams don't really care about ERA. The underlying metrics aren't as pretty as the pretty regular sub-3.00 ERAs.

Still, Greene is a decent reliever, and it's crazy to me that someone hasn't signed him for a year and a few million bucks by now.

Bobby Witt Jr sees the major leagues this season, whether a mid season call up or a September call up?
Steve Adams
2:13
He still hasn't played a game of A-ball yet.
2:14
I mean it's not impossible, but I would think 2022 is likelier.
Mike
2:14
Any free agents left that would appeal to you?
Steve Adams
2:15
Greene is a solid reliever. Jedd Gyorko would make pretty much any team's bench better and would be an improvement over some starters on rebuilding clubs. I'm curious to see if Cespedes can still mash as a DH somewhere. No harm in rolling the dice on a low-cost David Robertson rebound.
Rick Porcello is nowhere near as bad as he was with the Mets last year, and given the need for innings around the league, it's weird to me that he's also not in camp.

Which team is going to sign Cole Hamels?
Steve Adams
2:16
Still have no indication he's thrown a bullpen for teams, which was supposedly going to happen before his market picked up. I'm not expecting him to sign soon.

Is Kelenic even ready for the show?  20 at bats above A ball is not really enough time in my opinion.  Is this a situation where all minor leaguers think they belong in the show or is he actually ready?
Steve Adams
2:18
You could argue he's not, but the Mariners obviously think he is. Kevin Mather wouldn't have been telling people "Kelenic will be up in late April" if they didn't clearly think he's ready. Kelenic and his agent, Brodie Scoffield, said it was made clear to them that he'd have been up last year had he signed the extension offer they put on the table.
2:19
He certainly could be. Some people, the Mariners included, considered him the best player in his draft class. And he's hit at every stop.

Reds putting Suarez at SS, good or bad move?
Steve Adams
2:20
He was a poor defensive shortstop when he was 24. I don't expect him to be better now that he's five years older.
Tony
2:20
Does Gonsolin end up starting at some point or will he stay in the bullpen all season?   Asking for a friend...
Steve Adams
2:21
The Dodgers have like 10+ guys start games for them every year. This will be the same. I doubt he makes 20+ starts, but I expect he'll get to 100ish innings as a part-time starter and a multi-inning reliever.
Ryno
2:22
What are your thoughts about Dinelson Lamet?
Steve Adams
2:22
No. 1-2 type of starter if he's healthy -- but that's a pretty big if right now.
Eli
2:23
Can the tribe trade jose
Steve Adams
2:23
They can. They will not -- at least not this year. If this year doesn't go that well for the Indians, I could see him on the market next winter.
Mets
2:24
Why wont the Mets use JD Davis in util role and start Luis Guillorme at 2b or 3b with McNeil at the other?
Steve Adams
2:25
Guillorme's 2020 numbers at the plate are a complete mirage. He's not sustaining a .463 BABIP over a large sample. There's little point in moving Davis around the diamond when his best asset is his bat. Give him the regular reps, and let Guillorme, who can handle multiple positions and play several of them well, be the guy who bounces around but isn't overexposed at the plate.

do u see us as one of the aggressive big spending teams this next offseason?
Steve Adams
2:26
I think the Mariners will spend some significant money next winter, but probably not on the same level as some more traditionally big spenders. The Giants, in particular, come to mind. Yankees and Red Sox will have reset their tax line. Blue Jays will spend, too. Rangers.

2:27
If Suarez defense stinks at SS than who is the Reds SS??
Steve Adams
2:27
Probably still Suarez? They didn't address the position at all this winter. Could give Kyle Farmer a chance there, I guess, but he hasn't played SS regularly since college.
West coast
2:28
Who will have a better bounce back season: Jon Gray or Anthony DeScalfani?
Steve Adams
2:28
Gray is more talented, but I trust the Giants' ability to get more out of their pitchers than I do the Rockies.
Giants Yaz
2:28
Why is everyone still doubting I'm for real?
Steve Adams
2:29
Are they? I don't see a ton of that. I don't think he's as good as he was in 2020, but he looks to be pretty clearly a well above-average hitter who can play a solid right field.
