They could definitely use it but there's just not a ton out there. Even among the veteran guys who are non-roster invitees with other teams, there's just not much CF depth. They could look at Jake Marisnick if he doesn't make the Angels and they just want a plus glove. There's Rafael Ortega with the White Sox, too.

The Guardians would probably welcome the opportunity to get out from under Myles Straw's contract, but I doubt Cincinnati's going to be eager to take that on. Royals have a bunch of outfielders (Kyle Isbel, Drew Waters). Brett Phillips seems like he's been pushed out in Anaheim.
But there's not a big, readily available supply now that Michael Taylor signed in Pittsburgh

If the Rangers gave Monty the same contract as Snell how would that effect them with luxury tax????
Steve Adams

They're second-time payors who are already over the line. The next $13MM or so they spend would be taxed  at 30%. The next $20MM after that would be taxed at 42%. So you're looking at about $11.5MM in taxes on top of the actual salary

Any word on Eury Perez???

We'd have it on the site if there was anything notable out there

Are the Rays really done at catcher?  There have been Joey Bart rumors over the winter, but is he a fit on the roster?
Steve Adams
2:04
I think just about any catcher with a pulse is a fit on that roster. I don't get the love for Rene Pinto and especially for Alex Jackson, but the Rays do things that make me scratch my head all the time and wind up being right pretty frequently, so we'll see. I think they absolutely need another catcher on the roster though. Promising a spot to Jackson is wild to me.... he's struck out in 48% of his MLB plate appearances and 30% in AAA.

Am I the worst owner in any sport, or just Major League Baseball?
Steve Adams
2:05
Not sure Moreno's the worst owner in his own division. Angels fans have every right to be sick of him and generally dislike him, but you could have John Fisher (A's owner).

how amazing/awful/hilarious would it be if the Giants also got a discounted Jordan Montgomery? Would change a lot of minds as to Zaidi's ability if he snagged several discounted big names all at once. (not a Giants fan, just saying)
Steve Adams
2:07
It'd be great for Giants fans. Not sure it's entirely a testament to him, since I don't think you could credibly say he was sitting back in early January knowing full well that he'd be able to sign all three of Snell/Monty/Chapman in March -- but the end result would be great for Giants fanss.

Your grades on my trading Cease to the Padres?
Steve Adams
2:10
Grading a trade right after it's completed is generally nonsensical. These things take years to play out. Samuel Zavala is 19.

I thought the White Sox got a nice package of talent back. It didn't necessarily line up with the insane asks they were reportedly making from the Reds early in the offseason, but that's why nothing got done at that point. I like the deal well enough for both sides. I wrote about it from the Padres' vantage point for our Front Office subscribers this week.

The Braves supposedly made adjustments to Kelenic's approach-which clearly aren't working.  How long do they continue this trial before reverting to his prior one ?
Steve Adams
2:13
I don't think his old approach worked particularly well either. I always found their acquisition of him pretty puzzling. They took on a lot of money to do it, and in the end his spring apparently concerned them enough to sign Duvall for $3MM anyway. Kelenic has been in the Majors for parts of three seasons. He's had three productive months in a span of about 15 total.

I was a massive fan of his as a prospect, but as it stands, he's just not close to the guy he was supposed to be.
2:14
Hope he gets there -- love his passion, energy and attitude.

As a Royals fan....  uh....yeah.....im usually watching other teams for talent to poach vs counting on our farm system.  Do you think the Tigers (in general) are going to move what seems to be a surplus of backend arms?  They seem to have like 8 guys battle for the #5 spot and guys like Jobe and Madden waiting too.
Steve Adams
2:18
They have Skubal, Flaherty, Maeda, Mize, Manning and Olson in the MLB rotation mix. I suppose you could count Flores and Gipson-Long in there. Jobe seems unlikely to be up in '24. Madden could after spending most of '23 in AA and pitching well.

I still don't look at that as any sort of surplus where they need to trade from it. Manning doesn't do much to excite me, plus he/Mize/Skubal have all been hurt extensively, which only showcases the need for depth.

Maybe at some point you consider moving Manning -- I'm more bullish on Olson and Mize -- but I don't think it's a necessityh right now.

Tyler Soderstrom is supposed to hit and hit for power. He did neither when called up, and has continued not performing this Spring Training. How concerned should the A's be about their 22-year old former prospect?
Steve Adams
2:19
He's 22. I wouldn't be too shaken yet
