Steve Adams

Greetings on a brutal day for Mets fans and one day after I resorted to watching a live stream of an intrasquad KBO game on YouTube last night. Yep.
Synder-GOAT
5:06
Will the Mets non-tender Syndergaard since he only has a year left after 2020?
Steve Adams
5:07
Nah -- he'll cost them $9.7MM again in 2021 and should be available to pitch most of the season, barring setbacks. If he'd had this surgery in July or August, then you're looking at a much tougher call.

We have a virus epidemic and a TJ epidemic sale sevy Thor plus
Steve Adams
5:08
We see a handful of guys have Tommy John every spring; it sucks, but I don't think this year has been any larger, volume-wise, than seasons past. We've had some more notable names this time around though, for sure.
Halo fan
5:08
Should angels fans be concerned with cannings arm injury?
Steve Adams
5:09
Hard not to be since it pertains to the UCL to some degree. It sounds like surgery is off the table for now, but any elbow injury of that nature comes with some concern for a potentially lengthy absence
Tigers
5:10
So assuming the season occurs at some time, do we have a respectable offense? Cron, a healthy Cabrera, Jones, Goodrum, Reyes, Maybin, Romine and Schoop seems decent. Not imposing, but decent, no?
Steve Adams
5:12
It seems decidedly below average -- and that's coming from someone who probably believes a little bit more in JaCoby Jones and Niko Goodrum than most folks. It could be -- should be -- better than the second half of 2019, but that's an awfully ow bar to clear, considering the Tigers were baseball's worst hitting team post-ASG last year.

Steve - I’d simply like to say thanks for keeping the chats / available content / etc flowing all things considered.
Steve Adams
5:13
You're welcome -- we'll continue to churn out some new series, videos for YouTube, follow the limited news that does break, etc. We don't plan to shut things down, although the sheer volume of content will inevitably have to scale back from what you'd expect with actual baseball news taking place.

Sale or Thor - who is the better closer in 2022?
Steve Adams
5:14
Why does having Tommy John surgery automatically make someone a closer?
Roxfan
5:15
If we play a short (maybe half) season, and we are still awful, do you think we trade Arenado in the off-season?
Steve Adams
5:16
I think they'll trade Arenado prior to whatever trade deadline there is in 2020 -- and if not then the offseason is a given. The Rockies aren't going to contend for anything this year other than a top 10 pick in 2021, and they probably prefer to avoid a full offseason/Spring Training of "Arenado wants out" drama.

5:16
Why did Sam tui get cut? He said he wanted to stay. It makes no sense? Any rumors on what happened?
Steve Adams
5:17
Ryan Divish reported on it and we mentioned that in multiple posts; he's been battling shoulder fatigue for a year, was throwing 85-86 mph in spring training -- a full 10 mph south of where he was when he made his MLB debut a few years ago.
Not one team claimed him on release waivers either.
5:18
Hopefully Tuivailala can get healthy and get back to where he was, but he's out of minor league options, but neither the Mariners nor another club seemed to be willing to commit a 40-man roster spot to finding out
He could still go back to Seattle on a minor league deal

5:19
Doth Theo trade for Lindor now?
Steve Adams
5:19
The Cubs have spent like $5M combined in the past two winters and have a bottom-10 farm system. Lindor isn't going to the Cubs.
5:20
(He's not going anywhere prior to Opening Day, for that matter)
trade deadline
5:20
whats your guess on a trade deadline, if the season starts around june 1
Steve Adams
5:21
The start of the season is only part of the equation -- we'd need to know when it ends and how many games they plan to play. The current trade deadline is about two-thirds through the season, so I'd expect something similar.

June 1 seems optimistic, to me, by the way. Hope I'm wrong.

5:21
Sam Tui got cut because they were sick of trying to spell his last name.
Steve Adams
5:22
The "Tui" part is easy, and then I always think of Steve "Vai" and "La-La"
5:23
Have to teach myself little games like that; same as I did with Matt Tuiasosopo and Marc Rzepczynski
Russ Atkins
5:23
Do I have enough talent in my outfield or too many of the same guy, Bit of power, lots of strikeouts and potential.
Steve Adams
5:24
The Blue Jays -- of whom Ross Atkins is the GM -- have too many similar players in that regard for my liking. Teoscar Hernandez, Randal Grichuk, Billy McKinney, etc. etc. etc.

Trade Conforto for a pitcher?
Steve Adams
5:26
Mets have five viable starters even without Thor, and trading Conforto would mean trading their second- or third-best hitter. If they could get someone with actual club control remaining, then perhaps, but I don't think they will be or should be in a rush to move Conforto.
Tommy
5:27
Does Kelby Tomlinson get playing time at all if Arenado gets traded? If not who is the 3rd baseman?
Steve Adams
5:29
I guess they could select him if he's hitting well in the minors at the time, but I imagine they'd just move Ryan McMahon there and put Garrett Hampson at 2B. Could play Josh Fuentes at 3B some, which would be interesting since he's Arenado's cousin. Could stick Desmond there as well.
Mr Red
5:29
With no spring training and no season (yet) do the players still get paid? If so, how do small market teams like the Reds, Royals, Pirates, etc survive with no revenue?
Steve Adams
5:29
Player compensation is one of the primary issues being debated between the MLB and MLBPA right now
Angry MLB Fan
5:30
Whenever baseball comes back do you think the Astros are still going to get booed unmercifully what do you think the long hiatus has in a way been a blessing in disguise for the Astros?
Steve Adams
5:30
I still think they're going to be profoundly booed on the road.
Quarantini Spaghettini
5:30
Is Syndergaard happy that he doesnt have to throw to Wilson Ramos in 2020?
Steve Adams
5:31
I don't imagine he's too jazzed about having his elbow cut open, no.
