Steve Adams

Oh for sure in April. I doubt he'd be ready for the first week of the season if he signed right now, but early to mid-April, sure.

Could Adam Jones or denard span be a fit for a team like detroit or miami? Maybe as a mentor for the kids.
Steve Adams
3:46
Seems perfectly reasonable to me regarding the Tigers, though the Marlins already have Granderson likely ticketed for that role, it seems,.

When is the date a FA wouldn't be tied to a draft pick?
Steve Adams
3:46
After the 2019 draft

Where do you see the Jays finishing and when do you think Vlad is going to be a every day jay
Steve Adams
3:47
Fourth place (ahead of the Orioles). He should be up once the Jays have effectively bought a year of service. There are 186 days in the upcoming season, and he'd need 172 to earn a full year, so Baby Vlad should be up about 15 days in.
3:48
Well -- he *should* be up on Opening Day, but you get what I mean.

3:48
When will the Mets sign Gio?
Steve Adams
3:48
I don't think they will, barring a legitimate injury to one of their current five
Trade offer
3:48
STL Tyler O’Neil for SFG Will Smith. Who says no?
Steve Adams
3:49
Cards wouldn't deal O'Neill for one year of a reliever -- even a very good one like Smith. I think O'Neill gets the everyday nod in a corner by Opening Day 2020 at the latest

Who has the best rotation in the NL Central?
Steve Adams
3:50
NL Central's best rotation?

Cardinals (31.6% | 155 votes)

Cubs (36.3% | 178 votes)

Brewers (9.8% | 48 votes)

Pirates (12% | 59 votes)

Reds (10.2% | 50 votes)

Total Votes: 490
3:51
I don't think there's a clear, runaway favorite given the question marks that permeate each, but I think the Pirates and Brewers are both quite underrated in terms of their starting staffs' potential
Severino will be shut down for two weeks due to inflammation in his rotator cuff
3:52
Could be a lot worse for the Yankees
Doesn't seem like enough to make them pursue Keuchel or Gio, to me.

Why am I not in the HOF?
Steve Adams
3:52
I have no earthly idea. He should be.

Brewers sign Kimbrel to a Grandal-esque deal, make super-bullpen
Steve Adams
3:53
I'm in favor of virtually any team doing that -- though there's still no indication that Kimbrel is willing to take one year.

3:54
Did the Angels do enough to compete with the A’s and Astros?
Steve Adams
3:54
AL West is still the Astros' division for me

CC is 15 strikeouts from 3000 and 4 wins shy of 250. HOF?  I don’t think so myself
Steve Adams
3:56
He's a former Cy Young winner who's going to finish with 65 to 70 WAR, a World Series ring, a solid (albeit not as good as his regular season work) postseason track record and an adjusted ERA that's about 15 to 20 percent better than that of a league average pitcher over the course of a very long career.

He's a HOFer for me.

You criticize, but why isn't it smart for the Braves to see what they have and add the deadline if they're in the hunt?
Steve Adams
3:58
Because the supply of talent was greater this offseason and, in most cases, would've only cost them money (and in a few instances, draft picks). The three other teams in their division that are trying are all demonstrably better, and I don't know that you can really even say that about the Braves. They passed on multiple avenues to improve, and by the trade deadline, who knows how close they'll even be to contending with three other very good clubs in the East?
West Coast Mets Fan
3:58
Brodie taking a lot of criticism for his bravado about his team's chances to win. Personally, I like it, it beats Jeff Wilpon's mantra about playing meaningful games in  September. I think it raises the expectation of the players on the roster., wouldn't you agree.
Steve Adams
3:59
Of course it's going to invite criticism -- all the more so if the Mets don't contend. But generally, I love the departure from the boring, boilerplate GM speak that comes out of virtually every other front office now. Tim Dierkes, Jeff Todd and I have talked about this in the past week -- it's more fun when there are more characters running teams.

"if" the Reds would work out a deal with Keuchel how far does that get them in the tight NL Central... would it be division contender?
Steve Adams
4:00
Reds fans have been on Keuchel forever. At this point, signing him pushes DeSclafani or Castillo out of the rotation, and I don't think there's any way they do that.
Bartolo Colon
4:01
What are your thoughts on Dallas Keuchel? Where do you think he will end up and do you think he will be effective at all/return to ace form any time soon (if at all)
Steve Adams
4:02
He doesn't need to return to ace form to be a worthwhile add for just about any team in the league. In today's game, he doesn't even need to be an ace to justify a salary of like $18-22MM per year. I think teams are missing out on an opportunity to improve, and I think it's insane that he's still sitting there.

Yes, they came out asking for way too much money -- and maybe the ask is still sky-high -- but you're talking about a guy who's been worth six wins over the past two seasons and 18 over the past five. He should be signed.
Fishing for Trout
4:03
Is there any reason to suspect that the dodgers lack of significant interest in Harper and Machado has something to do with waiting to see if Trout will become an FA or if the angels decide to trade him next year?
Steve Adams
4:04
I think that would be an extraordinarily short-sighted means of operation (much like the notion of passing on Machado because Arenado was going to be a free agent next year -- oops)
A's
4:04
It seems like the price on Keuchel could drop to a reasonable spot for Oakland to jump in. They hardly have a rotation at all right now
Steve Adams
4:06
Love the fit, and they only have like $25MM on the 2020 books right now. Even if they sign him for $20MM per year, that seems manageable given how much of the rest of their roster is cost-controlled. The only HUGE arb raises they'll face in 2020 are Treinen and, to a lesser extent, Semien.
Rays

Adam Jones and Gino a good last minute signing for Tampa Bay?
Steve Adams
4:07
I don't think Jones is an upgrade over the OFs they have in house. Gio, sure.
