Universal DH a done deal of they play in 2020? I'm all for it. Long overdue.
Steve Adams

I wouldn't call it a done deal, but they can sell it as a way to keep everyone fresher and the league has been wanting to implement it anyway, so I expect it'll be in there.

For the record, I'm for it, too. I recognize how appalling that is to NL diehards, but I grew up in an AL city going to AL games! Apologies!

Looking like the Padres have a nice 3-5 year window opening. Your thoughts?

It's hard not to like the look of their club going forward with Gore, Patino and Paddack potentially headlining that rotation, Tatis at short, Machado at third, etc.

There are still some questions, though, and I don't think the Dodgers are ever going to go away. With Bellinger, Buehler, Smith, Lux, May, etc. -- they're in arguably as good a position or better, and they can outspend the Padres, too.

And I love what the D-backs do on a yearly basis. It's a tough-looking road ahead for the Giants and Rockies.

If the universal dh is adopted, i won't watch anymore. Might as well plat by softball rules.

I'd either brace yourself for "watching softball" or find a new sport to follow. It's a matter of when, not a matter of if.

Do you like the idea of realigning divisions for a hypothetical 2020 season?
Steve Adams
6:02
If it helps get things to a workable state in 2020, sure, temporary realignment is fine by me.

Plus, divisions are kind of arbitrary as it is -- aren't they? They're only loosely grouped by "location..." not like Arlington and Seattle are particularly close!

As an NL purist, I wish the DH could be abolished league-wide, but from the perspective of realism, adopting universal DH should be a no-brainer. It allows both leagues to play on a level playing field, and it allows older free agents to expand their markets. Right now, if a guy like Edwin Encarnacion hits the open market, half the league is eliminated for his services. That doesn’t seem right.

Agree with that thinking
