hey
Steve Adams
3:20
OH HELLO
Welcome folks -- going to grab a water quick and let a few questions start piling up, and we'll get underway in a minute or so!
Melky Cabrera
3:21
I'm Back!
Steve Adams
3:22
As back as someone who'll spend more time in Triple-A than in the Majors can be, I suppose. I don't really think he'll be a huge factor for Cleveland this season, but they were obviously keen on having some kind of veteran bat in the wings at AAA should the need arise.
Napoli to open the season, made an offer for Bautista after Nap got hurt, Melky now

Will Mark Melacon get the SF Closer job when he returns?
Steve Adams
3:22
Have to imagine he'll be given the opportunity to close, given his contract, yeah
Orioles fan
3:22
Is Bundy a sleeper cy young pick?
Steve Adams
3:23
I'm buying him as a budding ace -- his early start doesn't look especially fluky. (Well, he's not going to sustain a 1.50 ERA, but the makings of a sub-3.00 are there.)
3:24
Durability will be a question though. If you said he'll be in the mix for Cy votes at season's end, sure. I don't think he's necessarily a sleeper at this point when he's run up a 40-to-9 K/BB ratio through 31 innings

How far off would a Markakis+Inciarte for Machado (salary neutral) deal be? Seems like it makes too much sense to not happen.
Steve Adams
3:25
Why on earth would the Braves give up 4 years of Inciarte for a couple months of Machado?
3:26
Manny is great, but there's no sense to that from Atlanta's vantage point. Their early start still doesn't look sustainable as long as it's being propped up by fluky performances from Ryan Flaherty, Preston Tucker, etc.
Jeff
3:26
If the Giants are buyers at the deadline, who could they go after?
Steve Adams
3:27
I can't see a scenario where the Giants are buyers. They're the fourth-best team in the division at most, and if you wanted to argue that the Padres will finish with a better record, I wouldn't push back.
Rick
3:27
Thoughts on Danny Salazar when he's back?
Steve Adams
3:28
Put him in the 'pen and let him throw 2-3 innings at a time.
Clay Kirby
3:28
Who gets traded first, Franchy Cordero or Manny Margot?
Steve Adams
3:28
Neither?
Guest
3:28
Eloy eta?
Steve Adams
3:29
Mid-June at the earliest, probably later than that. Still hasn't played in AAA and no real reason to rush him just so fans can see him. Might as well wait till they're sure he's big league ready.
3:30
May not get a look at him till September, and I wouldn't blame them for holding him off till late April 2019
Ian
3:30
Is Walker Buehler being showcased as trade bait?
Steve Adams
3:31
Every team in baseball has already seen him throw dozens upon dozens of times -- one quick look in the Majors isn't going to do much in that regard
Les Gomez
3:31
Mets make the move for Realmuto?
Steve Adams
3:32
There's zero indication the Marlins are inclined to trade him, and if they do, it'll be this summer and not in April/May. I doubt the Mets would offer the best package anyway.
Nick
3:32
Will trading Jon Jay, Lucas Duda, Moose, and Herrera be enough to replenish the Royals' farm system?
Steve Adams
3:34
No one wanted to give any of Jay, Duda or Moose more than $6.5MM this winter. They're not going to fetch much of anything in a trade, with the possible exception of Moustakas, but his best-case scenario would be netting a decent mid-range prospect or two. Herrera, if healthy, will bring a little more, but you're not dramatically altering a terrible farm system by trading that group, no.
Brad
3:34
Chances Brad Hand is traded this year?
Steve Adams
3:34
Diminished considerably with the extension. I don't think they'll move him.

Who will get me out of this orange juice container?  Where will I finish the season?
Steve Adams
3:35
That's someone I actually like for the Mets. Or maybe back to the Nats.
Mike Hazen
3:36
Dbacks dethrone Dodgers in the West this year?
Steve Adams
3:37
I don't think so, no. Dodgers started slow last season, too. They're 11-10 with minimal contributions from Seager, who should bounce back in the near future. And I think Kenley will be fine. I still like them in the Wet.

Will the NL East actually have four teams contending for the division this year?
Steve Adams
3:38
Nah. I buy the Phillies more than the Braves at present, but I think it's still largely between the Nats and Mets
John Curti
3:38
The Giants offense is terrible. When will they release Hunter Pence and give their younger players a chance?
