Goldschmidt deal - brilliant!
Steve Adams
3:40
I thought the D-backs did fine in the trade to get a pair of immediate MLB assets with a chance to be regular contributors (Kelly and Weaver), even if neither is a star.

The extension -- we'll see. The Cards paid pretty heavily and pretty in line with pre-2017 market expectations despite the fact that the free-agent market has devalued guys over 30 and specifically first basemen/corner OFs.

Goldy is elite and would still have gotten paid handsomely, but I wouldn't call that deal team-friendly.

Could the Astros “fix” Bundy?
Steve Adams
3:41
I'm sure a lot of teams think they can fix him in a sort of Arrieta redux situation. But they wouldn't give up much to do it, either, and that's a problem if you're the Orioles and you're trading a former No. 4 overall pick who, a year ago this time, looked to be on his way to a breakout.

It's been a month, but has there been enough in your eyes to believe that the White Sox have figured out the left side of the infield for the next 5+ years?
Steve Adams
3:44
I never gave up on Moncada, and him slashing his K% from 33% to 22% is hugely encouraging.

Tim Anderson still can't take a walk to save his life, and the overall offense is going to crater once his ~.450 BABIP crashes back to earth. I think he can be a low-end regular with questionable OBP skills and some power/speed, but I don't think he's ever going to be a star and don't expect this level of output to continue.

Why don’t you see teams bunting when other teams are playing the shift? To me it looks like an easy single.
Steve Adams
3:45
Bunting for a hit was a lot easier before damn near every pitcher in the game threw 95 mph with at least one plus breaking pitch.

As a tiger fan do you think the constant whining about Avila and McClendon is over the top.
Steve Adams
3:48
I saw some Tigers fans whining about McClendon on Twitter a few days ago -- in response to Anthony Fenech, maybe? One of the Tigers beat guys. To suggest that any hitting coach could make that lineup look like a competent group of bats is laughable.
3:50
Plus, the Tigers have actually turned Niko Goodrum into an interesting player who makes gobs and gobs of hard contact and should see his overall line improve with a bit better luck on balls in play; it doesn't make sense to hate on the staff for not being able to coax offensive production out of Gordon Beckham but then overlook the actual improvements in Niko

The Padres should trade Renfroe and a reliver for a starting pitcher
Steve Adams
3:53
That's a rather generic ask; I'm sure the Orioles would give them Alex Cobb for Renfroe.

If he could've fetched a decent SP, even paired with a reliever, they'd probably have made that move this winter. Corner outfielders aren't valued all that highly on the market -- particularly not when they come with career .295 OBPs

Will the White Sox make Colome available at the deadline? If so, what is the likelihood of crosstown swap?
Steve Adams
3:54
He'll be available. I doubt the Cubs go for him unless the ChiSox are eating basically the whole contract, though. Remember, Tom Ricketts flat out told everyone that the Cubs "don't have any more money" to spend.

Do I put C-Mart back in the rotation after the All-Star break?
Steve Adams
3:57
Doesn't sound like there are any plans for the Cardinals to do so, but I suppose the overall health of the staff and of Carlos Martinez himself will dictate his usage and role. Right now, I wouldn't expect it.

Why would the Padres trade Renfroe for Cobb? If they claimed Cobb on waivers the Orioles probably let him go for nothing.
Steve Adams
3:59
Of course the Padres wouldn't do it. I was saying "Trade Renfroe for a SP" was too generic a sentence is all

With Senzel getting called up Friday, who do the Reds kick off the 40 Man?  I say bye-bye Zach Duke or trade an OF too SF.
Steve Adams
4:01
They can just move Scooter or Wood to the 60-day injured list. Gennett was supposed to be out 8-12 weeks anyway, and Wood just had another setback.

Do the Yankees need to do anything, or should they just wait for like twelve guys to get healthy and hope?
Steve Adams
4:05
I think they're just going to keep waiting on their injured guys to come back. A few are on the horizon finally, and it's not like they've tanked even with half the roster on the shelf. They're somehow getting substantial lifts from guys like Gio Urshela. Adding LeMahieu when people wondered how he'd fit into the mix looks all the smarter now

I'm closer to signing.  One day closer.

Curious what happens with Kieboom when Trea Turner Returns
Steve Adams
4:06
I think it's entirely dependent on how he plays and on the health of the rest of the infield. If he's hitting, they'll probably find a way to keep him up, as they did with Soto last year.

Re: LeMahieu - I mean, everybody expected (or should have expected) Tulo to get hurt and/or provide very little production, necessitating the Gleyber/DJLM double-play combo we see now.  Don’t think there was much question about the fit
Steve Adams
4:08
I saw a lot of "Didi will be back, and where's Tyler Wade going to play now?!" type comments at the time.

Are there numbers Mullins can put up at AAA that warrant a return, or will they just leave him down for the remainder?
Steve Adams
4:10
If Cedric Mullins hits in Triple-A, the Orioles will bring him back up. Drawing seven walks against just three strikeouts in his first 30 PAs is a nice start. They still view him as a potential regular, so he'll get another look if he sorts himself out down there.

Is Luke Voit a prolonged mirage or is it fair to hope for a 270/370/570 type line?
Steve Adams
4:12
I mean, I'm not expecting the guy to on-base .370 and slug .570, but I'm totally on board with Voit as a well-above-average hitter at 1B/DH in the Bronx. That trade looks astoundingly bad for the Cardinals. (Sorry St. Louis fans)

Why am I putting band-aids at 2B when I have Franklin Barreto in the wings.  Even Jorge Mateo is better than Profar and Pinder.
Steve Adams
4:14
Pinder can straight mash against lefties.

I'm not sure what the hell is going on with Profar, but at a certain point they can't keep running him out there if he can't get the ball to first base. Offensively, he's going to rebound (.174 BABIP, just a 14% strikeout rate), but I wouldn't be surprised if he got some kind of phantom IL stint to get a mental break and/or get some rehab reps in AAA.
Frugal GM
4:14
Does tatis’ stint on the IL affect his controllability?
Steve Adams
4:14
He still accrues service time on the injured list.
