Steve Adams

The free agent signing everyone has been waiting for has finally happened!

Anthony Bass is a Seattle Mariner.

Let's discuss.

Any chance I can bring Dallas back?
Steve Adams
3:30
I don't see why there wouldn't be once the draft passes. They were talking to him late in Spring Training and have presumably kept tabs on his asking price.

Who is the Rangers biggest trade piece bc I’m sure my team will sell again sadly lol? I think it’s minor??⚾️ And what’s the chances we get rid of Shelby Miller he went in relief yesterday and gave up a GS I’m surprised we didn’t get rid of him yet lol thanks Steve!
Steve Adams
3:33
Yeah, Minor is pretty easily the best blend of widespread appeal and actual possibility of being traded. I don't think they have too much in the 'pen that people will really be after, though Shawn Kelley could fetch a small return. Mazara isn't hitting well enough at the moment; Pence could generate interest as a bench bat, but you're talking a relatively minimal return there

Hypothetically, if I offered Alex Colome to the needy Cubs, could I get back Albert Almora & Ian Happ?
Steve Adams
3:34
Nope.
3:35
Nor are the Cubs going to be excited about taking on Colome's salary. (And by "won't be excited" I mean "they won't do it")

But Colome's not fetching Happ+Almora even with the Sox paying the full freight. I doubt they'll get back anything better than what they traded to get him. Narvaez's glove is rough, but I like that deal for the Mariners quite a bit.

When is Yordan Alveraz being called up?
Steve Adams
3:38
They have zero urgency to promote him since they're running away with the division despite getting little to nothing from Tony Kemp and Tyler White. I'd say he'll come up when an injury gives him a path to regular ABs. Realistically, they could improve the team by going with Alvarez over White or Kemp at any point here, but there's no need to give Alvarez Super Two status at this point.

All of that is a roundabout way of saying -- broad range: late June to early August. I think they'll want to get him some MLB experience (and a fair bit of it) before the postseason anyway.
Will Smith
3:38
Can the Giants net a top 100 prospect if they package Will Smith with another reliever, say Sam Dyson or Tony Watson?
Steve Adams
3:39
Sure, I think so. I wouldn't be stunned if Smith on his own got a back-end Top 100 guy, really. He's very, very good. He's affordable. Every contender will be interested.

Bigger concern for Twins moving forward: Rotation or Bullpen?
Steve Adams
3:40
Bullpen. Berrios/Odorizzi/Gibson is at least a passable top three. The bullpen has like three good relievers and a bunch of shrug emojis.
That said, no reason the Twins can't look to add to both.

3:40
Where could matt kemp land ? Dodgers ?
Steve Adams
3:41
He'll go to an AL club if he goes anywhere at all. Indians have been cycling through 2012 All-Stars in their DH mix all year without any success. Why not? Hard to imagine he'll be worse than CarGo or Hanley has been/was.

3:42
Any chance Casey Mize makes it to Detroit this year?
Steve Adams
3:43
Nah he's an early 2020 arrival in my mind. Tigers haven't been shy about the fact that they have no plans to rush him despite the injuries in their rotation.
Mark
3:43
Will the Twins give what Craig Kimbrel is looking for?
Steve Adams
3:43
I think the Twins will be among the most aggressive teams on Kimbrel once the draft passes.
Mickey Callaway
3:43
Am I being used as the scapegoat? And also do you wanna help me pack my bags?
Steve Adams
3:47
To an extent, yeah. We all kind of sat back laughing as Brodie sat and talked up a big game with comments like "COME GET US" after a pretty mixed series of moves. (The Cano trade looked awful from the get-go, to me)

I don't think anyone would be thriving with this collection of players, but at the same time it's a little tone deaf to, when your team is in crisis mode, say things like "There's no such thing as a must-win game until Game 7 of the World Series" (paraphrased).

I don't doubt that there are individuals who could be managing the situation better and maybe have a better grip on the clubhouse, but most managerial fires are scapegoat moves to at least some extent, and that'll be true here as well.

What's going on with Keon Broxton
Steve Adams
3:49
The Mets had a week to trade him or put him through waivers, and it's been four days since he was designated. I'd imagine they're still seeing if there's interest before passing him through waivers aka allowing the Giants to claim him because the Giants claim every outfielder with a pulse.

3:50
Will Smith for Travis Shaw?
Steve Adams
3:51
Giants are already pretty much stuck with Longoria at third base, and they'd prefer more controllable talent as opposed to someone who is already into arbitration, only controlled two years beyond 2019 and, at the moment, injured/struggling terribly.
Common Sense
3:52
Is it just me, or instead of putting an inning requirement on relief pitchers they could simply not give them their warm ups to speed up the game. Thats What the bullpen is for after all....
Steve Adams
3:53
Send a bunch of dudes out to the mound cold, tell them to start huckin' fastballs at 95 mph in a competitive game setting? Do you just enjoy seeing relievers get hurt?
Ryan Pressly
3:53
Am I the most underrated reliever in the MLB?
Steve Adams
3:55
I think his improvement in Houston has gotten a fair bit of national attention. Kirby Yates, Ty Buttrey, Taylor Rogers all come to mind for me. Heck, Ken Giles is probably underrated again because people remember his ugly exit from Houston ... but he is straight filth in Toronto.
The Fonz
3:55
If Leclerc regains his form, do you see him being dealt this summer?
Steve Adams
3:56
Nah, not with the contract he just signed. Teams will be wary of the early control hiccups anyway, which would diminish the price. If he regains his form and holds it until next year's trade deadline, the 2020-21 offseason, etc. he'd probably have even more value than if they shopped him around now.

3:56
Yordan Alveraz available by trade ? MLB pieces and prospects?
Steve Adams
3:57
Pretty clear path to regular work at 1B/DH for him in Houston. I don't think they'll consider moving him.

3:58
Who would you rather have for dynasty. Judge or Robles?
Steve Adams
3:58
Judge. Although I do have both in a dynasty league at present, which is also fun. I recommend trying to do that!

Why does A's Mgr Bob Melvin let Josh Phegley languish last in lineup? He leads AL C's in RBI. He's clearly 1 of the A's best hitters yet "Bo Mel" won't mobe him up in the order.
Steve Adams
4:02
Phegley entered the year as a career .223/.264/.372 hitter in about 850 PAs. I don't think 110 PAs this year tell us "hey this dude is suddenly as good or better than Chapman, Khrush, Olson, etc." -- especially not when RBIs are the barometer. I'd leave him in the bottom third of the order as well -- maybe bump him to 6th/7th against a lefty, but Oakland is full of righties who mash lefty pitchers (Canha, Pinder, etc.)
Ranger13
4:03
Who has a top of the line major league ready or near ready 3B the Rangers might match up with in trade for Minor/Cabrera? Perhaps Franco in Philly or Riley in Atlanta?
