I don't think that combo gets you a premium MLB-ready 3B. Certainly not Austin Riley.

What happens to all the Yankee reserves that have been killing whe  everyone starts getting healthy?
Steve Adams
4:06
Most of them have been succeeding based on fluky small samples they won't sustain. We pretty much know what Cameron Maybin is at this point, and there's no reason to expect him to continue this because he hit well for 50 PAs. 40% of the balls Gio Urshela puts into play are dropping for hits. The situations will probably work themselves out. Mike Tauchman was raking at one point too and is now toting a .211/.306/.411 line.

He's not very good.  You think teams will give up a lot for him because of the amount of team control remaining?
Steve Adams
4:09
He's averaging 95 mph with a 15.3% swinging strike rate and a near-50 percent grounder rate. Homer problems are concerning, but that's never been an issue for him before and a 22.2 percent homer-to-flyball rate feels fluky.

Generally, I disagree with the sentiment that he's not very good and think a lot of teams would agree.

Would Boyd and Greene be enough to land Austin Riley?
Steve Adams
4:10
I don't think there's much that's going to make the Braves give serious consideration to trading Riley now that he's in the Majors.

Would u keep jose ramirez on ur fantasy team? Or would u dump him for whatever u can get before his value plummet furthur
Steve Adams
4:11
I'd be trying to buy low on Ramirez, not get rid of him.
Sneaky Twins
4:11
Sneaky Twins are in Houston's shadow lurking... One or 2 Houston losses puts them in the league lead... WHy are they not being touted like Houston?
Steve Adams
4:12
They're getting plenty of praise, but Houston has done this for like 4 years in a row and generally has a much more legitimate pitching staff. The Twins are good, but it helps that they've already gotten to pick on the Orioles seven times and that half their games are going to come against baseball's worst division.
Marlins
4:13
Are the remaining "trade chips" basically just international pool money pieces because they probably won't get much prospect return? Prado, Walker, Castro, Granderson, Romo, Rojas, etc.
Steve Adams
4:14
There's not a lot on that roster that's going to generate trade interest, no. I mean, sure a guy like Grandy, Romo or Prado could get moved -- but none of that bunch is going to net a real prospect return.
Ed McWilliams

Why would Carter Stewart sign with a Japan club when he is most likely at the very least a 2nd round pick
Steve Adams
4:16
I obviously don't know his thinking, but there's some value into getting out of the minor league/pre-arbitration system that effectively guarantees you won't be making any money for the first 5+ years of your career (barring a cheap extension that also undercuts your earning power).

So you don't buy Urshela as an above average regular 3B?
Steve Adams
4:17
Nope
just saying
4:17
The Twins are 11-5 against the East and Houston is only 6-4.  Could be said that the Twins are legitimately a better team right now, even getting 7 against the Orioles.
Steve Adams
4:18
I'm aware they've played well against some tough opponents; but the question was why do people not think they're as legitimate as Houston, and that component is part of the reasoning. Their pitching staff is also just flat out less talented.

Where is the love for Franmil Reyes?
Steve Adams
4:21
The power is impressive. The .299 OBP is not, nor is the defense. Not saying he sucks or anything, but he's sort of a one-trick pony. (Though if I had to choose one trick to specialize in, it'd be hitting dingers)

Franmil is fun! I don't think he's a budding superstar or anything, though.

Why should I wait until after the draft?  I don't lose a pick for signing my own player.
Steve Adams
4:23
Touche. The joy of rushing to answer as many questions as possible, ha.

That might've mattered to the Astros awhile back when they thought someone would sign Keuchel before the draft and they'd be getting a comp pick, but they have to be pretty aware it's not happening at this point, so yeah, no real reason to wait.

But they also need both parties to be on board, and Keuchel at this point probably wants to wait to see how much his market opens up.

Tony Watson for Tyler O'Neill? O'Neill's power is undeniable but a little rough around the edges. Doable?
Steve Adams
4:24
O'Neill is going to be the Cardinals' everyday left fielder or right fielder in the very near future. Not trading him for a few months of Watson
Just saying 2.0
4:25
Umm, the Marlins could get a lot in a trade for Caleb Smith right now.
Steve Adams
4:26
Of course they could. They could get a lot in a trade for a few of their young starters. But they control Smith through 2023, so I don't see any real scenario where they're going to entertain offers on four and a half years of him.

4:26
Regarding O'Neill being an everyday player in the near future... Do u mean 2020?...
Steve Adams
4:27
Yes -- or in the case of an injury. But when you're talking about trading 6 years of a guy.. being a few months (in-season-wise) away from a regular role seems pretty near to me.
Al Avila
4:28
Do I owe it to Tiger fans to spend some money on a pitcher just to get through this season? How bad will it get this year with no starting pitchers? How can I trade Boyd without putting out a SP with an ERA over 10?
Steve Adams
4:29
Yeah, Avila (the Tigers' GM) still seems likely to bring in a starter of some sort in my view. Even if it's just James Shields or Ervin Santana to go out there and take a beating, what they have now is just ghastly.

As for Boyd, he's good enough that they could potentially bring back someone who could step right into the rotation in his place (among other pieces)

Ok, I have to wrap this up for the week. Thanks for chatting everyone! I'm on Twitter @Adams_Steve. Jeff will chat on Thursday, Mark on Sunday and Tim next Monday. Have a good week!
