HanRam and Swihart for Joseph and Crush?
Steve Adams
3:47
Logically, why would the Red Sox want any part of that deal?
Joe
3:47
DH OR NO DH.
Steve Adams
3:47
I would rather watch David Ortiz and Edgar Martinez hit than a pitcher.
Mike Rizzo
3:48
Will I trade for Realmuto, and if so, what will I give up? What about a reunion with Ramos?
Steve Adams
3:49
The Marlins wanted Robles or Soto this past offseason, and JTR is healthy and raking. I doubt the price is much lower, and I don't think the two sides will ultimately line up on a deal.

Ramos reunion would work
Come on man...

What would an mlb expansion draft look like?
Steve Adams
3:52
We took a lengthy look at the '92 expansion draft a couple of years ago... Chuck Wasserstrom interviewed Dave Dombrowski (then the Marlins GM), Bob Gebhard (Rockies) and several others involved in the expansion draft for a three-part series that I thought was really interesting. If you're looking for more info on how an expansion draft would take shape, I'd recommend reading through them. They're lengthy, but they're well done and quite interesting:

Can Jack Flaherty headline a deal for Machado?
Steve Adams
3:52
I wouldn't give up six years of Flaherty for a Machado rental, but if the Cards were willing to do so, the O's should make the deal.

Will Tyson Ross' market be impacted at all by the shadyness surrounding thw pomeranz deal 2 summers ago?
Steve Adams
3:54
Nah. Padres have made several trades since then. If anything, other teams probably feel like Preller and the Padres will be extra certain to have their medical info up to par (and then some). If there was another issue like that, Preller's probably booted from the team and never holds a notable position elsewhere again. It's in his best interest to be as transparent as humanly possible.

Any chance the Jose Ramirez PED suspension rumors are accurate?
Steve Adams
3:55
The Indians just announced that they've reached out to the Commissioner's Office and confirmed that those rumors are bogus.

Any idea on when the super 2 cutoff is? Looking to know when we can expect to see Eloy.
Steve Adams
3:57
There's no true cutoff date, since it shifts year to year. The top 22 percent of players (in terms of service time) in their service class receive Super Two status, so there's no true way to pin it down until we know who ends up in that service bracket, which we can't know in advance. By mid-June, he should be fine to come up and avoid it. By late June, certainly. But there's no real rush for the Sox or anything ... not like they're going anywhere.

Are you buying the Mesoraco rebound with NYM?
Steve Adams
3:59
He's walking more, K'ing less, hitting the ball harder and hitting the ball in the air at nearly double his clip from Cincinnati, so I do believe there's some tangible improvement at play here, yeah.

Whether he can stay healthy is a greater question, and given the past three years, I'd bet against that.

Who comes up first when the inevitable sell off happens for the O's?  Cedric Mullins or Ryan Mountcastle?
Steve Adams
4:00
Mullins would be my guess. I've heard Buck effuse praise for him and him specifically in the past, his defense is probably MLB-ready right now. Mountcastle, I don't think they even know where he's ultimately going to settle in on the diamond. He's also been hurt this season and still only has like 55 games above A-ball (or something in that vicinity)

Will any large deals happen in August
Steve Adams
4:01
There were tons last season, and I'd expect more of the same this year as teams get increasingly creative with the financial component of trades.
Over cooked
4:02
Would the Angels be interesting in moving Simmons to slide Cozart to SS and get a power 3b?
Steve Adams
4:02
Moving him as in trading him? He's the best non-Trout, non-Ohtani player on a roster that is pushing for a postseason spot. I can't fathom them doing that, no.
Eric
4:03
Why weren't the BoSox given the chance to negate the pomeranz trade once the incomplete medicals were discovered?
Steve Adams
4:04
They were given the chance to work out something along those lines and opted not to do so. They needed a starter, Pomeranz was still pitching for them, and the deadline had passed.
Giant Disappointment
4:04
Shouldn't the Giants sell, sell, sell at this point?
Steve Adams
4:05
I think they should have in the offseason, but at this point every non-Padres team in the NL West probably thinks it has a real chance.

I think they should, but I don't expect them to.
Jake Junis Priest
4:06
Hanley will get hired for league minimum by someone, right?
Steve Adams
4:06
Absolutely.
Peter Angelos
4:06
Hey, why don't I spend international money?  It's been keeping me up at night
Steve Adams
4:06
I have no idea. It doesn't seem like anyone really has any idea why Angelos has that insane philosophy in place.

Would Kipnis or Tomlin being added in a trade for a relief pitcher help or hurt in acquiring a good reliever? Would anyone want either anymore?
Steve Adams
4:08
Both have negative trade value at present.

In a typical year, when do the best trade rumors (that are legit - not just guys like me throwing names around) start to come in?  Mid-July?  Do you think 2018 will be a typical year or do you see things getting started sooner?
Steve Adams
4:09
A lot of teams are focused on the draft right now. Once that's done with and their top picks are signed, we'll start seeing more trade stuff. And who knows? Perhaps Dipoto already swinging a major trade is a portent for earlier trades of significance happening.

Should the Reds be all in on a top tier SP next offseason?
Steve Adams
4:10
They're more than one good starter away from fixing that thing.

What do the Cards do when the whole rotation is healthy? Who goes to the pen?
