Chat with MLBTR's Steve Adams: 5/6/25

I don't think it matters who the replacement is. If the Cardinals are trading Helsley, it's because they're focused on 2026 and beyond. They can plug Ryan Fernandez or Gordon Graceffo or whichever controllable young arm they have that's pitching decently in July into that ninth inning role.
Or just play matchups and go with a committee down the stretch

Do you think think Dalton Rushing gets the call if T. Hernandez goes on the Dl?

As noted earlier in the chat, Outman is with the team in Miami right now

Time for Brewers to go all out with young pitchers and trade Quintana, Civale and Cortes. Time to embrace the ready young players and see what happens.

If they're out of it at the deadline, I expect all those guys to be available. For now, there's no point in running them out of town -- Cortes isn't even healthy -- and thinning out the depth.

Over the last 80 regular season games, the Tigers have quietly put together a 54-26 record. A win tonight against the Rockies would put them on a 110 win pace for the equivalent of a half season. Is it time to start believing in this team from the Island of Misfit Toys?

I don't think it's been all that quiet, and I think they're very much for real. I picked them to make the playoffs. Kicking myself for only giving them a Wild Card spot right now, ha.

Orioles send Heston Kjerstead to the Pirates for Braxton Ashcraft why not?
Steve Adams

Something like Kjerstad for Ashcraft (or Harrington, though he's having a rougher season) would be a fun challenge trade that fits big-picture needs for both clubs, I agree. I doubt it happens, but I wish more swaps like that took place.
2:12
Most front offices are too worried about the notion of trading prospects for fear of parting with a star.

Ok, I've got to wrap up. I'm on X @Adams_Steve and Bluesky @adams-steve-bsky.social.
