Chat With MLBTR's Steve Adams: 5/8/18

Steve Adams
3:14
Another week -- another chat. Let us begin.
Tyler
3:15
How much of an impact do you think the Yadi injury will have on the Cardinals.
Steve Adams
3:15
It he's back in a month, it'll be fairly minimal -- might cost them a win or two at worst.
Sam Adams
3:16
First to be called up: Kopech or Vlad Jr.?
Steve Adams
3:16
I'd bet on Kopech over Vlad.

Vlad is only 19, has barely played about AA, and the Jays have a pretty damn good option at 3B already. Kopech is older, has more time in the upper minors, and the White Sox rotation is, uh. Well.
Hector Santiago isn't going to block Michael Kopech like Josh Donaldson will block Vlad.

3:17
What's going to happen next with the Roberto Osuna situation?
Steve Adams
3:17
I'd imagine he'll be placed on administrative leave for a week while Manfred's office looks into the matter, and it seems quite possible that he'll receive a suspension given that he's been arrested and charged.

Do expect Giants to promote Duggar to play centerfield?
Steve Adams
3:18
At some point early this summer I think they will, though I can't imagine they're thrilled with the fact that he's striking out at nearly a 30% clip in AAA after contact wasn't really an issue for him in 2017
Jake
3:19
When will David Hess get called up to replace Tillman?
Steve Adams
3:20
At this point, the O's should be well aware that they're going nowhere in 2018, so while it sucks for fans to watch him get pummeled, in a weird way they have the "luxury" of being able to let him take his lumps while Hess or Keegan Akin continue to develop.

I still think they'll make a move within the next month or so, but they don't need to feel any urgency to make a move for the sake of competing in the division or Wild Card race. Their season is effectively lost.

3:21
How did I receive a 4 year old notification that Bud Norris was acquired by the O's?
Steve Adams
3:21
Ha -- we were doing some maintenance on the back end of our mobile app yesterday, and it somehow spit that out. I apologize for the confusion, of course, but it should be a one-off thing, as we're done with what was being worked on
3:22
It didn't go out to everyone, but a small chunk of our app users did get the notification, it seems. Consider yourself lucky to be among the select few?? Even Tim Dierkes didn't get it on his app!

Can we really rebuild Matt Harvey?
Steve Adams
3:23
I don't know if anyone can really rebuild Harvey. The success rate of pitchers returning from thoracic outlet surgery is not good, and he had his TOS less than two years after having TJ I believe. That arm has been through hell, which is too bad, considering how talented he is.
Let's Go Bucs
3:24
I'm not gonna ask if Kang should play with the Pirates, instead I will go with this: will Kang play meaningful innings for the Pirates this year?
Steve Adams
3:24
I think he'll be back with the team and receive semi-regular at-bats later this summe
Summer, even
Vlad
3:24
You know i can DH a bit right? play 1B a bit, play 3B a bit. Frankly, me Justin and Josh can share all three, keep us healthy and fresh, and we replace a really bad bat with potentially an awesome one.
Steve Adams
3:25
He's 19 years old and still developing defensively. They don't want to put Guerrero at DH when his glovework is going to be an important component of his value. He needs reps in the field.
Angels 1961
3:25
Do Angels make run at Britton? Would Cam Bedrosian have any value in trade?
Steve Adams
3:27
At this point let's see if Britton gets back healthy and pitches well before assuming he can save anyone's bullpen. He was decent but not great in the 37 innings he was healthy last season... 7.0 K/9, 4.4 BB/9, swinging-strike rate down 7% from the year before... chase rate down 6%

3:28
Could Raicel Iglesias bring a package headlined by Juan Soto?
Steve Adams
3:29
I don't think so. Soto's stock is way up early in the season, and I have to think he's going to be generally regarded as a top 10-15 overall prospect in MLB. The Nats wouldn't part with him for 3 years of JT Realmuto.

Plus, Iglesias' velocity is down 2.5mph and his control has been terrible thus far.
3:30
Samples of 14-15 innings don't really do much to alter a guy's trade value if it looks like he's just having some bad luck with homers, BABIP, strand rate, etc. But when you're talking several mph off a fastball and uncharacteristically scattered control -- you start wondering more about a possible physical issue, which obviously impacts trade value

3:30
What are the chances of Machado and Bundy to Dodgers becoming a reality?
Steve Adams
3:31
As much as I think the O's *should* trade Bundy, I kind of doubt they will. Machado I can see as a clear fit, obviously.
Tigers
3:31
Is it time to trade fulmer?
Steve Adams
3:32
They should definitely be open to it, and I'm sure they will, but it's not a "take the best offer" scenario by any means. They should have a borderline exorbitant asking price, and if teams aren't willing to meet it they can just hold until the offseason. That's the benefit of controlling someone for another 3.5 seasons .... value won't really diminish much at all by waiting until the winter.
Mariners
3:33
Harvey to the M's? We need a fifth starter. Is he better than Erasmo Ramirez, or Ariel Miranda at this point?
Steve Adams
3:34
The version of Harvey that was DFAed isn't better than almost any team's fifth starter. Whichever team adds him will need to have some kind of new gameplan, some change in pitch selection, a mechanical alteration -- something to instill hope that he can actually improve.

I wouldn't expect him to be better than either Erasmo or Ariel, no.

Toronto was supposed to give 15,000 Osuna t-shirts for Thursday game, they absolutely 100% can't now.  Correct?
Steve Adams
3:35
I didn't realize that... man. I don't see how they can go through with that promotion now.
Marc Downs
3:35
Would Mike Marjama and a low level minor leaguer enough for the Mariners to gt Matt Harvey?
Steve Adams
3:36
I wouldn't even give up Marjama to get him. I wouldn't part with anything of Major League value. I'd just wait until he's released and try to roll the dice on him at the pro-rated minimum
Dan
3:36
Has Kevin Maitan lost a lot of trade value at this point, upon seeing reports of recurring weight problems amongst other concerns?
Steve Adams
3:37
His value was down even this offseason when the Angels signed him. He didn't have a good debut season at all, and yeah, there are some questions about his conditioning and his defensive skills, it seems. He's still a teenager, though, so obviously plenty of time to turn things around.
Bad Blue Jay
3:38
What will the Toronto Closer situation be for the foreseeable future?
