Chat with MLBTR's Steve Adams: 5/8/24

Who drops from the starting rotation once I return? The other five have all looked good-to-great to start the year. Is Schmidt's last option going to be burned? Cashman deserves credit for rebuilding the rotation and AAA depth (while trading away borderline surplus in the Soto deal).

I don't see any way Schmidt is optioned. You're assuming right now that:

A) Cole will be back mid-June as targeted
B) Everyone else will be healthy

Pitcher health rarely works out so cleanly. Even if all six were healthy at once, though, Schmidt would stay. Luis Gil pitched all of four innings last year and is already at 37. He's also walked 16% of his opponents, so I don't think there's any way he keeps this up. But even if he can improve the command and continue pitching well ... there are obvious eventual workload concerns.

Sad what you guys have done to the site over the last 12 months. Pathetic personality hires have ruined this place.

We've hired exactly one person over the past year at MLBTR. Thanks for reading though!

When does Seattle teach Julio the Strike Zone and not to Swing for a H.R on every pitch??

Rodriguez hit .279/.338/.495 while chasing off the plate at a 39% clip in 2022-23. I generally hate that much chasing and free swinging, but he's still been disciplined enough to only keep his BB% about 1.5 points below league average. The aggressive approach works for him, and I have little doubt he'll turn things around soon

Who do you see the Brewers targeting at the trade deadline?
Steve Adams

Starting pitching -- whoever's available. Haha. Fedde, Blackburn, Luzardo, Braxton Garrett, Framber Valdez if Houston sells, Alex Cobb if San Francisco does, etc.

Why do you think the MLB Draft is nowhere near as exciting as the NFL, NBA, or now even WNBA draft? What changes would you make to improve the draft, or is it a lost cause?

In other sports, you're drafting kids who are going right onto your roster. It's easier to get fans hyped for that than to say "Cool! We got Dylan Crews! Can't wait to see him in two years!" .... or longer than that, if you take a high school kid,

Ok, I've got to wrap up. Thanks for participating, as always!
