Well, we don't know how Holland would've been had he signed in December and just reported with a full Spring Training. But, certainly it doesn't look like a bad thing for them that they wound up with Davis instead.

Then again, signing Shaw and McGee to those enormous contracts (plus the inexplicable Mike Dunn deal a couple seasons ago) hasn't really panned out. Nor has Ian Desmond. Generally speaking, the Rockies' recent free agent endeavors have not been pretty.

Is it really smart for the O's to start their rebuild with a GM that more than likely won't be here past 2018?

It doesn't seem like Duquette is really in charge in that front office anymore. It's been reported that he's losing power to Brady Anderson and the Angelos sons, and I've spoken to people who've dealt with the Orioles and suggested that Duquette no longer has full final say. I don't think he'll be in Baltimore beyond his current contract.

To your point, though, I agree. If he's not your guy anymore, make the move official.

Who has more value....Yates or Stammen?
Steve Adams
3:48
Yates. Three years younger and controlled for 2.5 seasons to Stammen's 1.5

Do you think anybody will trade for Shin soo choo.  How much salary would the Rangers have to eat.
Steve Adams
3:48
Almost all of it. I can't see him being moved, no.

Do you think MLB will eventually make a rule against extreme shifts?
Steve Adams
3:50
I don't see why they would. Defensive positioning, even traditional positioning, was only ever decided upon as a means of covering the spots where the team thought a ball might be hit. Now there's better data to better inform those decisions.

I've said this in the past, but there's been shifting for decades in baseball. Ted Williams was shifted 70 years ago. And the "no-doubles" defense, playing the corners in, altering infield depth in general to guard against the bunt or optimize positioning for a double play -- all are defensive shifts.

Is Brian Wilson still attempting a comeback?
Steve Adams
3:50
Not to my knowledge.

Am I giving up too much for Machado if I offer Allard, Soroka and Camargo?
Steve Adams
3:50
Emphatically, yes.

I haven’t heard anything about Blake Swihart lately. Does he end up staying in Boston past the deadline?
Steve Adams
3:51
I'm surprised he's still there and will be surprised if he finishes out the season in Boston.
Joe Maddon
3:51
When will I start trust my Starting Pitchers to pitch more than 5 innings/80-90 pitches per game to avoid taxing out my bullpen by August?
Steve Adams
3:52
Think it's more about not facing opposing lineups a third time than any sort of innings or pitch limitation.
Matt

What should the Giants do in LF? Mac has been struggling since returning.
Steve Adams
3:53
He has been, but it's also only like 40-50 plate appearances. I'd give him a longer leash.

Hoping Osuna doesn't return to the Jays, but I don't want us to get lowballed either. If he's gone til the off-season, does his trade value remain cratered or recover a bit?
Steve Adams
3:55
It's permanently diminished to an extent, but teams have shown that they'll overlook some terrible off-field behavior if it means acquiring on-field talent. (Or, in the Mets' case, in the name of some senseless nostalgia trip apparently, because "talent" certainly isn't why Jose Reyes has a job)

They seem to have a systemic inability to develop pitching. I know their park is hardly pitcher-friendly, but I'm not sure I can think of a team that has produced fewer quality arms in recent years. And it's not like they didn't have them in the system ... they've had guys ranked in the top 100 or so on a yearly basis, but all of them seem to stall in the upper minors and in the Majors.

How can both of these things be true: A) Clint Frazier is a very good outfielder and B) No team seems to want to trade for Clint Frazier.
Steve Adams
4:00
I'm sure there are plenty of teams that'd love to trade for Frazier, but the Yankees have little incentive to deal him at present. Once they're really aggressively seeking rotation upgrades and whatever else they may pursue (bullpen help, probably), then I'd imagine Frazier's name will be kicked around the rumor mill quite a bit more.

Is there an official "signing period" for the selections of the recently completed draft?
Steve Adams
4:00
There's a July 6 deadline for them to sign by.

Julio Teheran for Clint Frazier. Win-win.
Steve Adams
4:01
As in "win for the Braves" and "another win for the Braves"?
4:02
Teheran is pitching terribly and on the disabled list. No way he fetches someone like Frazier.
Pumpsie Green

Drafted players can't be traded until next year, correct? And now they can't even be PTBNL, right?
Steve Adams
4:02
They can be traded as soon as the World Series ends. They cannot be PTBNLs in the interim.
