Of that group, I place my bets on Galvis, Fry and Mancini (in that order of likeliness).

Now that Bieber is on the 10-day DL with a shoulder strain, is there anyone out there they can trade for that will buy them some time until Bieber and Plesac return?

Lots of cheap SPs landed on our recent Top 40 trade candidate list:

If they just want to rent some innings, I doubt the ask on a Tyler Anderson would be particularly high, and he's pitching well outside of that one nine-run drubbing from the Braves.

Merrill Kelly is better than his ERA in Arizona this year. I'd have said to go get Andrew Heaney a week ago, but the Angels have won six in a row so they're at least in wait-and-see mode.

Most likely deadline buyer: Cubs or Brewers?
Steve Adams
3:54
Both
Giants offense
3:54
Look. I get that the Giants offense will snap out of their slumber, but come on, how long are we going to keep trotting Casali and Taucman out on the field? Isn’t it time for Bart and Ramos to be call to the show?
Steve Adams
3:55
At a certain point, it's hard not to want to give Ramos a look. Bart is tougher, because Buster Posey is somehow 2013 Posey again at the plate, and you don't want to call Bart up to play in a limited role.

Braves should be sellers, even though they don’t have much to sell?   Maybe Martin, give Smith away? Or too early
Steve Adams
3:57
No team as close to the front of the division as the Braves currently are will decide to sell this soon. They're only five games back and three under .500. It's possible they end up selling off some pieces, in which case any of Martin, Greene, Smith, Morton, Smyly (if he's pitching better) make sense, but they won't make that call until the week of the deadline, most likely.

If Griffey Jr’s legs had not failed him later in his career, would he have been considered the greatest ever in your opinion?
Steve Adams
3:58
If Griffey had remained healthy, he'd be in that mix, yeah. Trout would still be setting a ludicrous pace for the first half of a career, but Griffey was so dominant and also so magnetic and charismatic that he was one of those players who felt larger than life in a positive way.

Elvis Andrus has hit 267/318/350 since May 1. It's not great but it trends towards competency... would Nelson Cruz over Mitch Moreland be a bigger upgrade for Oakland then replacing Andrus?
Steve Adams
4:00
Most of that has come in a hot couple weeks in June for Andrus, but sure, you could sell me on Nellie being a bigger upgrade. I think the A's (and Rays and Jays) should be all over Cruz if the Twins make him available.

26 million for Morton and Smyly, has to be considered a bust for the Braves.  I get Morton, sort of, but Smyly for 11 million, when Lester could have and would have been a better, cheaper option.  AA had to be drunk signing that dude for 11 million
Steve Adams
4:03
The market obviously didn't agree that Lester was likely to be better. Several teams wanted Smyly; he's always had the ability to miss bats and has at times looked like someone who could break out to new levels. Lester at this point is a guy you hope to squeeze five competent innings out of. Smyly had (and has) more upside, even if it hasn't worked out.

Can they pull more than one top 100 prospect still for Gallo?
Steve Adams
4:05
I don't think so, but we're at the point of the year where I should begin emphasizing that Top 100 prospect lists are a snapshot in time that fluctuate wildly. Opinions of young players are constantly changing. Baseball America could update its list right now, and 2-3 weeks later they could probably redo it and see meaningful change. That's especially true when we're coming off a season where no minor league games were played, so evaluating these kids is even tougher than it normally is.

Cubs regretting trading Darvish if they have to add a starter at the deadline? Or will they choose all together to just stay put and work with what they have?
Steve Adams
4:07
I'm sure they're regretting the Darvish deal now, yeah. They'll probably have to give up more to get a decent rotation upgrade than they received in return for that salary dump.

If Angels are 7 to 8 games back at deadline do we become sellers. Heaney,  Cobb, Bundy,  Watson both Iglesias maybe Upton?
Steve Adams
4:07
If they're 8 games back at that point, yeah, but they've won six in a row right now and pulled north of .500 so I'm sure selling isn't really a consideration.

do you think Jesse Winker becomes available? The likely asking price? Do the Gs have enough assets without trading any of their top 7 prospects?
Steve Adams
4:09
I don't think so, given the club control he has remaining. The only way he would is if owner Bob Castellini was so intent on cutting payroll after 2020 that he told the front office to tear it down -- and that obviously didn't happen since Gray, Castillo, etc. didn't change hands over the winter.

I do think the Reds will put Nick Castellanos out there if they're not in the race, since the way he's hitting makes him a lock to opt out of his contract.

Beat KC and a very bad Arizona team stiil 6 back
Steve Adams
4:10
Sure, they didn't beat great teams. I'm not saying they're obvious buyers, but the front office and ownership are going to say "wins are wins."
4:11
I have to wrap this up for the week and get a few things up on the site. Thanks for chatting -- as always. Enjoy the rest of your week, everyone.
