They can try, but I don't think he's generating much interest at $14MM per year right now.

The Giants offense doesn’t seem to be kicking into gear yet. The pitching has been solid, maybe underwhelming at times. Any moves you see them making at the deadline?

They're the best fit for Willson Contreras, in my view. Give Bart the rest of the year to try to get going in Triple-A. Major upgrade to the lineup right now, in the short-term.

do you see the Jays trying to get a pitcher with some term, someone until the end of the year or just sticking with internal options (if so, who in either situation). Stripling is better suited to the long man role in the pen, covering behind Kikuchi who seems to only go 4 innings or so per game.. and losing Ryu for this year and likely next hurts the SP depth a lot...

I think they'll look shorter-term. They can still return a rotation of Gausman, Manoah, Berrios, Kikuchi and one of Stripling/Pearson next year, and the payroll in 2023 is already a little heavy before even factoring in major arb raises for Vlad, Bo and Teoscar (plus a bunch of smaller arb raises that'll addd up.... Jansen, Cimber, Romano, etc.)

Diamondbacks ought to listen on Merrill Kelly right? Mets, Phillies, Twins?

I thought that last year and they chose not to, then signed him to a 2-year extension.
I won't be stunned if he's a legitimate trade candidate, but I don't necessarily expect it like I did a year ago.

Can I ask Arenado to decline his opt out early so that I can trade Jordan Walker for pitching?
Steve Adams
2:39
Arenado has already publicly said he doesn't plan to opt out. That was prior to least year's opt-out, not this year's, but he spoke about sticking in St. Louis for the long haul so my expectation is he will forgo it this winter.

Alright, I've got to wrap up for the week. I'm on Twitter @Adams_Steve for more questions. I know I missed tons, but we have hundreds of people in these (and thousands closer to the trade deadline), so it's impossible to get to everyone.

You can also consider signing up for our Front Office subscription service, which gets you access to member-exclusive chats and mailbags each week, plus weekly email articles from Anthony and me, exclusive fantasy baseball advice from Brad Johnson, weekly autograph giveaways, ad-free viewing and more. It does cost a little per month ($2.99), but subscription fees all go to supporting MLBTR and making improvements both to the site and to the app.
